  4. Ok so after plugging in the basic OBD2 port reader it tells me there is no codes when clearly its showing the airbag light!
  5. I dont need it to, but I can see if there is anything that I can fix myself with such a device. Then reset the code and see if the problem goes away.

  7. Ah so its just a fault code which needs clearing? There is someone in my street that might be able to help with that. I will ask him first if thats the case.
  8. Today I had to remove the front passenger seat from my Skoda Octavia so I could get a fridge freezer in. Only issue is that I had to unplug the airbag that was in that seat so the car is now complaining. Does anyone know the way to reset the airbag system to rectify this fault? I need to get it sorted soon as the MOT is due in about 2 months. I dont plan on taking it to a specialist if I dont have to as that would be quite a lot of money just to reset the airbag system.
  9. For a 13 pin trailer socket I would be fitting a 30 amp fuse as thats the norm, is the other fuse a higher capacity? To be able to fit everything in the back would be very convenient.
  10. Is that an unfused supply? I would be putting in my own fuse. Thanks for the tip about removing the fuse if not towing or leaving the car unused.

  12. Hi I am wanting to fit a tow bar to my Skoda Octavia 2012 reg. I have previously fitted a towbar to a small car using a basic 7 pin system, but I would like to fit a 13 pin system to My Octavia. I have all the wiring for it, but I dont know where I would fit the 12V power cabling to.

I understand the idea of the odd gears being on one shaft and the evens on the other with each using its own clutch, but that page I linked to specifically says the lower 4 gears are on one final ratio while the top 3 gears are on another. It also says reverse is on yet another final ratio? You are likely right in that there is only one final gear on the axle, how could there be 3? Unless where its front wheel drive they get slid into place by the car automatically? Or could the gears be laid out so 1-4 are on one shaft and 5-7 on the other? There are only 2 clutches though so that wouldnt make sense especially once you add in reverse.

I have been trying to think why this would be the case? My only reasoning is that with a single final drive ratio that there wouldnt be enough space for some of the larger gear cogs?

  16. Euro 4 engine is fine I could take it to all the clean zones in the UK on that. Are Polo/Lupo parts reasonable cost and easy to source? If so It might be worth it. Are the engine mounts similar enough?
  17. I see so if I was to do the engine and gearbox at the same time it might work going to a Fabia then? Or even Octavia? I suppose I could even turn it into an automatic If I wanted?

  20. Wow thats mad, OK I will have to enquire of the DVLA first Adding a newer engine would do one thing for me at least, I would find it easier to get parts in years to come. Changing the mechanics of the vehicle to newer, eg engine, gear box, wheels, brakes axles, cat, wheel hubs, steering rack would make life easier in years to come in keeping the car going. If I keep it to Skoda and particularly Fabia then its just an upgrade really. Well it feels that way. However the look of the overall car would be of a Felicia still.
  21. So the DVLA would still want to charge the higher of the two pre 2001 tax rates even if I put a smaller engine in?
  22. So despite the Fabia engine being a 1.4 litre its very much a similar engine to the 1.6 Felicia? What about DVLA re tax, as Im in the UK? Also what about insurers, would they look at the Fabia engine as just a newer version, meaning they wouldnt care, or will they look at it as significantly different and want loads more money out of me?
  23. Well Its not been driven since I brought it as its my project car, so the answer is I dont know. I know an ICE and one thats of an age of the Fabia gen 2 isnt going to really be environmentally friendly what petrol or diesel engine would be, but its surely an improvement on a Felicia engine?
  24. Im looking at the idea of putting a Fabia gen 2 1.4 litre 16v engine in my Felicia. It has similar power and torque to my 1.6 litre Felicia engine. I dont particularly want better power, but a newer more economical more environmentally friendly engine. Im thinking its going to be easier to get parts for it in the future too compared to an old Felicia engine. What are people's thoughts on this? What would DVLA do re tax? What would insures do? Is it even possible? If so are engine mounts similar enough?
