Nearly 4 years ago, having collected my Superb Sportline Estate 184 TDI DSG I joined these forums to learn about my car. I learned a lot, a lot from searching through the many threads and I learned a lot by asking questions. Questions that were answered with detail, time and care. Your individual and collective knowledge has been invaluable to me during my ownership. For that, I thank you all. Over the last 43 months I have covered 49 thousand miles spending an absolute age in the car. Over all, its been great. It is so frustratingly close to being brilliant. As it’s aged, the creaks and squeaks have started to drive me nuts and in all honesty it has been let down by all the documented niggles that drive most of us up the wall. For me, the stop/start stopping whilst the car is still moving is annoying as hell, the occasional protest when the throttle is applied out of roundabouts and slow speed hazards resulting in more throttle being applied followed by a harsh downshift and spin of the front wheels is utterly crap, the suspension is well over sprung and under damped resulting in a ride that sometimes resembles that of a lilo in a force 5. That said, those negatives are out weighed by the many really really good things about the car. It looks great, it’s comfortable, it’s been economical, it’s got loads of space in the cabin, the rear legroom is impossibly generous, it’s well equipped, it’s got storage everywhere, the boot is bloody cavernous and it has been pretty reliable. The simply clever things like the ice scraper, parking ticket holder, brollies in the doors and fantastic velcro load securing things in the boot will be missed. The only issue I had was the water pump that packed in 3 months and 1000 miles after the warranty ran out. Fixed by Marshall Skoda Reading, who gave me a loaner with no notice and got me a bit of goodwill from the VAGUK. I paid £350 for the water pump and cambelt. I was really impressed with their service and will happily recommend them. Paying £21800 for the car and being given £18500 in part ex has made this car fantastic value for money for us. All in all, it’s almost Superb. Happy new year to you all and thank you again.

My wheel wash method is, Pre spray with a citrus APC including the tyre walls and arches. stiff brush on the tyre walls to remove previous dressing (and the build up of dirt the dressing attracts) Rinse the arches with the pressure washer and then rinse the wheel last to remove all the dirt from the arches, being sure to rinse as much of the barrel as possible. using a detail factory soft bristled brush I wash the face of the wheel with a standard shampoo. I then do the inside of the barrel with a large EZ detail brush. Then with a dedicated wheel mitt I wash the face of the wheel to ensure I haven’t missed anything. once that’s all rinsed off, if the wheels require it (once every three or four months) I will apply a bleeding fallout remover (Purple Rain from Autobrite Direct) and agitate with the detail factory brush and then rinse. once the car is done and it’s dry I wipe the wheels off with a spray wax (Meguars Ultimate spray wax) and buff with some dedicated wheel towels. once a year, I take the wheels off and allow access to the arches for a full clean and decon. The wheels get a wash, two stage decon, clay, polish and wax.

Good evening all, just been sat in the roadworks on the M4 with the cruise on at 60 and the outside temperature showing 2 degrees. The car started beeping and said it was over heating. Water temp was at 125 and oil 111. Slotted it into neutral, put the heating up to hi and the blowers on full and the temps went back to normal within seconds, it then did it 2 further times, the last when rising up a hill. The coolant reservoir wasn’t hot to touch, neither were any of the pipes going to or from the radiator. It’s like a sensor issue but i can’t get why both the oil and water are showing as running hot. Equally, if it was running hot both temps dropped quicker than I have ever seen. Any ideas??? Merry Christmas one and all.

I am sure this has been asked before so I apologise for any repetition. my car is a 2017 2.0TDI 190 DSG. It has done 35k and is on variable servicing. It’s due it’s 3rd service in 700 miles. One of my local dealers has given me a quote of £385 for a service. I was under the impression that the 3rd service is just oil and filters, surly not adding up to £385. Are any of you able to let me know what work is needed on a 3rd service with 35k on it please? it’s out of warranty now so once I know what’s required I’ll order the parts and use a trustworthy source to complete the service. thanks in advance

I am sure there have been many questions about this. I have just popped into Marshall’s to ask if there is a funnel or attachment that should have come with the car to enable me to fill up the adblue tank. I asked this because nearly all the cars, vans and trucks in our fleet have such attachments. The service advisor took me to a sales exec who immediately said no. Adblue was to be topped up by the dealer only. He went on to tell me that a customer had topped it up himself and had over filled the adblue tank which damaged the sensor and cost the guy 2 grand. I questioned why this was even possible and he said “well I’m not technical but that’s what happened”. I am sure they have tried to mugg me off with a view to getting my hard earned pennies. Do any of you know if his story is true. He has put doubt in my mind and being a bit tight, I don’t want to waste the 20 quids worth of adblue I have in the garage. your thoughts please?
