  1. Hi

I have noticed a loss of power over the last few days when going over 2000revs and the car struggles to get to 70mph. Took it a garage last night and they suggested changing the hoses/vacuum pumps as a few look rather tatty and its prob to do with air.

Going to work today driving along nicely and all of a sudden there was complete loss of power, put accelerator down and nothing happened. The car was literally moving on its clutch bite, running really rough like chugging. Seemed to be some smoke behind me, whitish grey. Managed to pull onto a car park, switched the engine off and now it won't start. Its trying to start and there's also a bit of hissing/whistling coming from the engine as it tries to start. Waiting till the other half gets home so he can tow me back home.

Anyone any ideas??? Im panicking that its major like the turbo

  2. Is that the black one with the mk5 gti wheels and lexus back lights?

I've already seen that, and If I'm completely honest... the minute I saw the wheels and lights I ruled it out.. Didn't even read the discription in depth.

You'll get more if you put the original wheels back on and the original back lights. Even if you don't have the Skoda wheels trims. People buying in this end of the market don't want mods.. especially ones that mean future maintenance (tyre) costs will be high.. That way you can sell the wheels separate to the car and even if you only get £50 for the wheels, I gaurentee it'll be £50 more in total (on top of what you get for the car) then selling them on the car.

Not having a go, just offering a helpful hint.. original looking cars always sell better and quicker for more money! :) I'm your average customer ;)

EDIT: Just read the description and it sounds like a sweet buy, and you have the original lights and wheels.. I strongly advise you fit them all and take new pictures! :) It'll sell quicker too!

Thanks for the advice, I was a bit torn as to whether keep it modded or not as I don't want to give the impression that its a ragged boy racer car when it isn't.

Gettin a LOT of interest on ebay, Iv got to schedule in 3 viewings 2mora, its quite stressful, people are actually squabbling over whether they can view it first lol.

Im just goin see what happens but if Im not happy with the price then I can always pull it off and relist as standard.

Nice to get the opinion of someone who doesnt know me or the car, as you will think what most people think

  3. If its any use my Fabia is on Ebay at the mo, its got no reserve as I want it gone as Iv bought my new car. Im gettin rid as we are having a baby and have 2 dogs so the car isnt big enough and we need a diesel as Im up and down the motorway every day. Iv put the starting price as £800. The title of my auction calls it a Fabia 1.4 with Golf GTi alloys. Theres nowt wrong with the car to my knowledge and it costs the same to insure as the Arosa I had before. It may be worth watching!

  4. Hi,

Hoping some of u cud help me here.

Im getting rid of my Fabia as I need a diesel and been offered an X reg Golf GT TDi in metallic silver for really cheap. Its cheap as it needs some work doing to it. I have got the mechanical side of it quoted but don't know anyone that can do bodywork.

Basically the drivers wing has been replaced at some point during the cars life with a non genuine wing and the paints coming off and its gone quite rusty so I think it will need replacing. Also on the drivers side rear wheel arch it has had a scrape off a gate post down to the metal so that will need repairing too. I didn't know whether to get a side respray done as both bits of damage are on one side.

Has anyone had similar jobs done on a metallic silver Skoda as that should give me a ballpark figure so I know whether to have it or walk away. The car is impounded so I can't get a sprayer to go and just look at it.

Any help would be appreciated as Im goin to have to make a decision by tomorrow

  5. Hi,

My car has had to go in for repairs, and has been stripped down as it seems that my head gasket has gone.

The head has gone away for pressure testing and re-skimming if necessary, however, on cylinder 1 the wet liner has got a lot of movement in it and there is not a build up of carbon like on the other cylinders. It appears that my car hasn't been running on all cylinders.

Has anyone had or heard of this problem with the wet liners?

Any help would be appreciated!!! :)

  6. Oh damn! :( I seriously want these rims on my Furby, but after finding out that the original Mk5 rims won't fit on (Different PCD or something) My goal was crushed :o

Please lol, tell me where you got these from and for how much? I'm dying for some on mine to complete my look, well after lowering it first lol :D

Also, how are they from the originals? Do they look identical? How big are they? 17's?

    Thanks for answering! ;)

They were from a shop in Stoke, called Hot Hatch Corner. Heres the address: Welcome to Hot hatch Corner

They are 17's and cost £450 and came with VW centre caps but they gave me some Skoda stickers which I have on. Didn't need to alter anything to put them on except the tracking afterwards.

They are v. similar to the originals and I think they look right nice. They look much better in the flesh than on the pictures. They always turn heads wherever I go.

    Hope this helps! :)

  7. I have a 2002 1.4 8v Fabia thats done around 66,000 and I think I have big probs with it. The coolant needs filling every couple of weeks, there is brown cream stuff under the oil cap, the temp sensor isn't working and there is this intermittent tapping noise, usually on tickover and at low revs.

Does this sound like a head gasket and this piston problem that has been mentioned on here before? I have already had the water pump and tensioner done. :(

    Any help will be appreciated

  8. Hi

I have got a really loud squeaking noise coming from possibly the suspension. Everytime I go over a speedbump it makes the noise and when I change speed. I have had some 17's put on my car last summer so could it be summit do with that? I havent yet lowered the car.

Im worried as my car has already cost me a fortune in repairs! Any ideas?

  9. A few months back I had a coolant leak and a pipe going to the radiator wasn't bolted down which contributed to the leak.

Then about 1 month ago I could hear a noise on my car when moving at low speed that nobody else could here. Then this week the noise got louder so my mates knew I wasn't imagining things. It got so bad that this noise sounded like someone was hitting the underneath of my car with a hammer and the only time it didn't make a noise was when I was accelerating or braking.

I took it to the garage and it took them all day to find out what the problem was. Apparently some bolts on the drive shaft had come loose! This is the second time bolts have come loose on my car! Quite scary!

I'm glad it wasn't much after buying my new alloys I can't really afford a big repair bill!

  10. I've got the same car as you and yes the fuel consumption is high!

I get about 38 mpg on average going around town driving what I call normal but if I give it sum I can physically see my fuel gauge move

I think driving at around 70 mph I get about 58 mpg so thats not too bad

  11. I cannot believe what the other drivers said!

I have been to Cornwall this week and stayed in a Caravan at the bottom of a winding country lane just big enough for 1 car with a few passing places along the way. I was travelling along one day and another car was approaching and I had visions of my car ending up like yours  Then I looked in my rear view mirror when I was about to reverse and my dad was right behind in his Range Rover Sport so the other driver had no choice but to back up! :D I thought if my dad can get through then I defintely can :)

  12. Im looking to buy some alloys for my Fabia and I've seen a 17" alloy and tyre package but I'm confused over what tyre sizes I'm supposed to have. Also Im confused over all this stuff about spacers and other technical stuff mentioned on sites. Can anyone point me in the right direction of what I'm supposed to be looking for?

  13. I've had coolant probs with my car. Its a 2002 1.4 8v and the temp gauge wasn't working right and the car was taking ages to heat up. Then I noticed a coolant leak on the front passenger side of the car. It turned out to be some sensor on the side of the radiator. I got it tightened up and I've been ok so far so maybe its worth checking that?

  14. Most of the time when I put the Furball into reverse the reverse lights don't come on. Occasionally they do. It's not the bulbs or anything like that as I have swapped my standard lights for lexus style lights and the problem is still the same. Does anyone know what this is as I need to get it sorted before I reverse into something in the dark?

  15. Hmmm, ok been having a think... Now I'm with Blonde87 on this one, know very little about the timing chain... Here's a photo of the offending area (the swine) and from what i can make of it - the 'rattle' is coming from one of those circular cog things... almost as if it's not attached tightly and there's slight play in it (obviously not that, but by description - thats what it sounds like  )

    Here's the photo...

I know a helpful chap earlier on pointed out that it might be a Felicia 1.4... so if it helps, she's a 00 w 1.4 mpi with 53k on the clock.

Cheers for any advice u can throw my way!

    Dan

The guy at the garage said that mine has play in it and has stretched. I think u shud get someone look at it cuz he didnt recommend I drive my car any longer as if that belt goes the engine does!
