  1. Do spend time looking at the paint surfaces for potential bird crap damage. Whilst your car should have transportation plastic film attached to upper body surfaces, depending on the length of time the car has been in transit or store it is not uncommon for unprotected surfaces to have taken a 'hit'. This damage can be hard to spot but the surface of the paint beneath the crap will look etched. If noticed at the PDI stage this paint damage can be removed with mopping. The lighter the colour the less noticeable the damage. Having learnt from past experience I waste no time in removing bird crap when it happens. You have a fine car to look forward to and I wish you very happy motoring.
  2. I have huge sympathy with the plight of mad8x.This issue will simply never go away unless like me, you choose to park in far away corners of car parks in order to avoid those careless and thoughtless others. I get taunted from those that know me for my parking habits, but too bad. In the last few years cars I have owned have remained ding and dent free. Perhaps I'm a bit of a saddo, but take a look around as there are a few others who seek out isolated parking in order to help protect their cars. If I were mad8x, no way would I have a new vehicle given his parking arrangements. Good luck.
  3. Had the same issue from early on in vehicle ownership.I managed to sort the problem to some degree by using some adhesive backed velcro tape which helped keep the covers in place.
  4. On a recent drive,my TPM alert went off highlighting an issue with the near side front and rear tyres.I soon stopped and found both these tyres were ok with no loss of air after gauge checking.I soon finished the journey and re checked the pressures of these together with both off side tyres and again no recorded pressure loss. I then went into the system and carried out a reset to the system as per hand book instruction. This incident would appear to have been a false alarm. Any constructive thoughts?
  5. I recently visited Wings to have the vehicles first service completed. The service reception partners were really excellent dealing with me together with politely acknowledging and making eye contact with other customer waiting to book in their vehicles.Even the technicians arriving for duty that morning made an effort to pass the time of day with those customers at reception. I had requested a while you wait service and was directed to a first floor suite and shown how to use my tablet and access to the Internet.I lost count of how many times I was offered hot drinks during this process.Within half an hour or so I was sent a recording of the cars visual health check together with a first rate commentary by the attending technician which recorded the vehicle underside covering those areas and components which make up the service check list.Very impressive.Within an hour or so the receptionist came to collect me and confirmed the service completed.I even was introduced to the technician who completed the work for a simple personal dialogue to confirm what he had done.Ihad all the relevant paperwork handed over to me with a full explanation.I left Wings a happy bunny and in the knowledge that my custom was important and that the job had been well done.On the strength of this experiance ,I will have no hesitation to return to Wings. well done and thank you.
  6. My Karoq came within the vin numbers concerned and was confirmed with a recall letter from Skoda UK. The efficient dealership close by simply carried out a while you wait inspection and in my case found there was no remedial action required.Whilst I carry few rear passengers, the technician confirmed the importance of the check, and certainly should not be ignored by the owners concerned. In the meantime, the cars performance and desirability goes from strength to strength. For what it's worth, this car is one of the very best I have owned and has represented outstanding value for money.Oh joy!
  7. I could not agree more with the comments from Breezy regarding this owners topic. My 1.5 manual has been an absolute delight in every respect and I do not regret at all my decision to purchase.Marchincus and others also repeat pertinent remarks on owners driving style regarding the first gear issue.I have replicated this and are willing to apply and have not found it impairs either the safety or enjoyment of the drive experience. Some owners cannot apply this as it would appear there are more serious characteristics or flaws to their individual car.

    Snagging

Trouble free so far for me also.Mind you,the PDI was done with great care and attention by the supplying dealer and this may have helped to some degree.
  9. Some Briskodians seem to have been unfortunate on here as my experiance was very positive to say the least .I struck up a conversation with salesman Lee and MD Andrew who we're exhibiting the Skoda range nearby.I found Lee to be very reliable and he found me a new Karoq in the spec I wanted. We were both happy on the price offered on my part exchange and the deal done and dusted.I would add that this dealership was over 100 miles from my home and despite having a another Skoda franchise on my doorstep, I was more than happy to deal with Simpsons on the trust that had been nurtured by Lee.Well done to them.
  10. Whoops! John999boy is dead right.Wrong area to post in.I should have gone to Specsavers!
  11. For more years than I can remember my car cleaning exterior habits have remained unaltered. These activities have centered around a weekly bucket full of decent shampoo, a twice yearly polish again using something decent. Now, if I believe all the hype, there are more correct and superior methods to do the job and without the potential to damage the paintwork finish (swirl marks) etc etc etc. The use of snow foams appear to be gathering pace. The idea of a process that helps remove all or part of the grime appeals. This snow effect does look the business if my neighbour's example are anything to go by. This process together with wash buckets with grid guards, micro fibre towels to dry off all make common sense in helping to preserve the paint finish on a new vehicle. Or have I just been swallowed up by all the associated hype?
  12. A very interesting suggestion from edencampers.I had never heard of helicopter tape though I think this is a similar product used to "wrap" expensive exotic performance cars. What I like about a tape is that I think you can get it different widths and so cover the vulnerable sill edge. I would appreciate some online link to edencampers product if possible.Thank you.
  13. Coming up to just one month's ownership I do enjoy the contentment that comes with self congratulation that you made the right choice. My eldest son drives an Octavia VRS for business and has racked up almost 70k trouble free miles in some 4 years. That factor influenced me. My generation, amongst fellow Briskodians, will of course remember those darker times when the Skoda marque was not only a badge of unreliability but a butt of countless jokes. The VAG group appear to have done well to help resurrect the brand. One wonders if they had attempted the same with say British Leyland then maybe now I could be driving a Maxi derivative................what a thought! To those who lift their noses when they hear of the Skoda brand now perhaps, after all this time, the joke is on them!
  14. Mmmmmmmmmmm an interesting one is this.I was pleased to select illustration 2 (Ratikon) and I have been well pleased with my decision. The choice is one for the individual though in practical terms the Ratikon style was chosen by me on the grounds of easy maintenance, and true enough they are SO easy to clean compared to the other option illustrated.I got sick to death washing my previous cars multi spoke alloys together with the Miriad of brush sizes needed.
  15. May I just add my own observations to the great advice already offered by fellow Briscodians. 1.The job is straight forward but do not rush. 2. The drill size is critical .Too big and the rivet will not hold the flap to the wheel arch liner.I did a test drill through an empty plastic butter tub and offered the rivet through this before serious drilling commenced. 3.I already had a small Makita drill and on full steering lock was able to drill out without the need to remove the wheel. 4.Michael G has mentioned the Irish parts dealer and I would endorse this supplier on the grounds of both price and top service. 5.Just returning to the rivet, I used a 40cm length of 2x1 timber to help push the rivet home and secure. Other methods such as a hammer may only help to buckle the rivet spline and then you are up the creek! 6.Phew !Good luck.
