Syphoned to min level and check and warning came on, put coolant back (half a pint), warning light did not appear, so I think the sensor is still working ok, but will be looking for new expansion tank soon, anyone have any instructions on how to fit a new one, do I need to change the coolant to do it?
-
I'm talking about the climatronic with the recirculate button, will do a test sometime and see how effective it is in the mornings. I'm generally more interested in getting the car warm before anything else so don’t like unnecessary cold air getting in...
-
Might syphon some coolant to min level and see if warning comes on again, just to make sure the sensor isn't knackered. Pity it's so bloody hard to read the level in the expansion tank.
-
I tend to press the 'recirculate' button, just to make sure outside cold air isn't used the warm the inside of the car. Not totally sure this works any better though...

Have just cleaned the prongs and hey presto, no warning beeps. But is it possible that scraping the prongs could damage the sensor itself, I've heard that some level monitoring sensors rely on a coating sensor on the prongs. Hope I'm wrong tho...

Have had a good search but not found anything definite.
My problem is I got in my car this morning after scraping the ice of the windows and started the car. After about 10-20 secs the coolant warning light came one with three beeps (the one with a thermometer dipped on water symbolly type of thing). I did noticed that it was about -2 degrees. I later tried when the ambient temp had gone up to 6 degrees, still the light/beeps. I subsequently checked the level, which seemed ok, I then disconnected what I think is the level sensor which connects to a 2 pronged thingy in the expansion tank. Checked for any crap, none there, so reconnected and tried again. Still getting the warning...
Anyone any ideas, got it booked in with skoda tomorrow (have to take a day of work, bummer...)

you could always go for the 4 space saver wheels option

I just scuffed the underside of my bumper on the o/s on a kerb, I've noticed that on the elegance the front bumper hangs a lot lower that than rest of the car. The scuff is just about noticable if you look in the right place, first scuff in 6 months wondering whether to leave it alone or get someone like chipsaway to mend, aswell as a few scratches/stonechips too. May try myself with some skoda touch up sticks if I can get my hands on some...

sounds like a very good deal to me, check to see if it had the timing belt and water pump done at 60k service. One the octy vs superb thing I'd go for octy as the superb remind me too much of next to last version of the passat.

1 red i 110bhp, 2 red i 130bhp on mk1's, think it's same with passats (next to last model).

Anyone know a dealer in the north west who does know how to reset to variable correctly?
On my last service I asked specifically for it to be reset to variable and hey presto have covered 9k and the car is asking for a service again.
My apologies as I seem to have started 2 threads will virtually the same question :(
Is it just same to assume that long life oil can cover 20k without relying on some sensor?
-
Sorry have asked this before but as part of a bigger question.
I'm about to take my car back to the dealers as it's started asking for a service in 1000 miles after covering only 8k since the last one.
It seems my car has changed to fixed intervals, they said they can reprogram it (with, i think the mileage and date of last service) then set it back to variable, can this be done?, or is more likely that all they will do is reset it via the dash and i'll be back at the dealers in 9k time?
Also wondering if the oil sensor in the engine will tell me before the fixed interval one kicks in (thats is of course if they dealers don't fix the varible servicing properly)
Bloody irritating if they don't fix it as I will only find out when the car asks for a service again.
Are there any specific setting I can get them to print out to find out if they have reset back to variable properly?
Thanks in advance. -
methinks ferrari need to check their email systems...
correct outcome I thought, F1 needs to settle down and concentrate on sport rather than any of this political BS.
hopefully lewis can do it this weekend...
-
I wonder why this didn't happen straight after the race? Have certain people being seeking advice first? F1 is too much business and not enough sport. The way I see it if everyone is behind a safety car they should be responsible enough not to drive too close to the car in front.

think so

You put your seat belt on before you start the car?

Anyone ever have a variable service ask for another service at just over 8k miles?
-
Am driving approx 30k a year so cannot really afford to get it services every 3-4 months.
My only problem with the dealer resetting or recalculating as the he put it is that it I won't really know if it has been set back to variable as it will be due another service in 10k anyway (80k service) as the car has done 8-9 k since the last variable service (currenly just on 68k).
Will only truely know if it has been changed to variable when car asks for service at 100k ish.
My main issue is the 200 mile round trip for me to get it to dealers so they can change back to variable. :(

Sorry if this has already been covered, but couldn't find an answer for my problem.
Had a 60k service in june and the car has now covered somewhere between 8 and 9k since. Just noticed that the 'service 1000' has started coming up. I had particularly asked the dealer to check that variable had been set when it was serviced and they confirmed.
Rang my dealer, I explained that I think it had been set as fixed at last service. He said to bring the car in and they can recalculate the service interval.
Is this possible? Do you just reset back to variable and tell the car the mileage of the last servce or will I have to wait till 80k for next service rather than the car letting me know.
I do remember when the car was at 50k I tried to get the computer to tell me when the next service was due, but feel I may have reset the car to fixed as I was messing with the ignition and clock control etc to try and find out. But I was told that you can only change from variable to fixed by doing the ignition clock thing when the car is flashing up the service message on the dash.
Hope you can help

Over filled oil, I take it you had it serviced at a skoda dealership? Same happened to me, but noticed it fairly quickly and also before thrashing it.
Couldn't be arsed removing protective cover from under the engine so ended up syphoning it out

If VAG aknowledges this fault then shouldn't it be done FOC?
My car is the 110 TDI Elegance (2002, 67K) and would seem this could happen to mine (hasn't yet, touch wood).
Having said that all the gear pull very well apart from 3rd which has a very linear accelaration with the foot down...

Thanks for the replies, may conside moving the pirellis on the back to the front and getting some new pirellis for the back. Although if price permits may use the new spare dunlop and but another one for the back.
-
Coming up to needing 2 new boots on the front, currently got dunlop sp's on the front and pirelli p6000 on the back, back done 20k, front about 25k. Was wondering if I should put pirelli on front so pirelli all round (not sure with winter round the corner) or replace all 4 tyres with something completey different. I think the dunlop were on it new as the spare is unused and is an sp.
I do about 30k a year and 80% of that is motorway drive (160ml round trip to work).
Hope you can help...
Car is 2002 Octavia 1.9 TDI Elegance Mk1 BTW.
Paint matching issue/interior roof upholstery query
in Styling and Car Care
Posted
To cut a long story short, I had a little bump in my octy and required a new tailgate and back bumper, went to collect the car today after repairs and the colour match was out, they have now offered to paint the back left and right quarters which extend to the wing mirrors. Does this sound like normal practice for colour blending? He did seem to think that the O/S rear quarter had been re-painted at some time. Don't want the car to look any worse and wondering why they ain't just repainting the new tailgate and bumper.
To add insult to injury they manage to pull back and damage the roof upholstery in front of the rear windscreen, looks like that cardboard stuff behind the cloth had broken leaving a very noticable crease . Any ideas on reparing this?
Oh and the tailgate seems to be lower at the O/S. Wish I hadn't gone with the insurance repairers now...
Very p***ed of with the garage that did the work as they seem to have damaged bits of the car which were fine before. They also managed to smear one of my doors with filler, so some bloke had to clean and polish it out whilst I waited.
Sorry for ranting, but it's been a long day...
Thanks in advance
