assuming its a fabia 1; recent PAS issues i had with my car included (after steering failed & warning lamp was on) that fuse 7 had blown--caused lack of comms with diagnostics ? it was indeed my electric pump that had failed as control module is built in.

so you agree that one brake does get applied before the other ? I am trying to get across to Garybaldi that as he now has the skills to change 1 side, that he should do the other as you are meant to ? (as an apprentice we watched the mech, then had to do the other side while being watched?) and then we were told why we do both sides on a vehicle. Then as we get more experienced we learn how the friction material mix is important/faults/causes and how to rectify ? there are so many manufacturers websites that we can access for free & get so much free information from--direct from the people who make them. there, marketing speech done& i'm finished with it !

G250 has always had an intermittent fault since i got car over a year ago; car was done at mates garage as i am on crutches at the minute. pump was a TRW unit from Euro, it was when it started up and worked for a bit...then it packed in on road test trying to communicate with snap on scanner it could not locate controller (pump) so it went to a 2nd tech who is ****-hot VW-Audi and he uses VCDS & dealer level kit apparently there was a coding issue with pump that meant wiping controller (pump) I got a brand new G250 from ebay from Carlisle in the meantime---as it had the intermittent fault anyway I was always under the impression it was a plug & play unit, do the lock to lock thing and drive it above 20mph dressed as santa !!! but the car proved it to be otherwise.......

if he fits new shoes to one side, then adjusts them up manually like i do (through a wheel stud hole) then the newer ones will be nearer to the drum, gives earlier braking on one side ?

oh well, but you get my drift.

Hello gents; The car has been done, it needed the pump and the steering sensor that was faulty, but then ended up with communication problem between the pump/sensor so it was taken to an independent VW-Audi tech who is renowned for his VCDS & diag work, It was down to a software issue ? So its back home and getting its annual service next weekend, plus i want a set of front mudflaps to put on it before the snow/grit season arrives.

So WHO changed just 1 side before you bought it ? the owner I assume , Not a garage? (If so its a sh*te garage that has no standards) Its the "mix" of the friction material that causes the problem (not thickness/colour/age) --thats why you must do all 4 shoes, as then you KNOW that both sides will produce straight/balanced braking. Sorry if I am hammering on about this but its important.

the reason it comes as a boxed set is so that ; 1. both sides will have equal coefficient of friction--so one side will grab before the other to cause instability. 2. the old ones on the other side are definitely a different diameter to your brand new ones that you have put on--will also cause early braking on one side, side effects as above. I ask people a question when talking about replacing axle sets (shoes/pads/discs/shock absorbers) : "Have you ever gone to a sports shop and bought just 1 worn out training shoe ? " Also now that you have proved to yourself that you can do brakes shoes (some mechanics still struggle with them) ---go ahead and do the other side ?

this happened to me as well; the outer cable had pushed out of the holder---wrapped it in duct tape to secure it tightly into the part that looks like a black rubber grommet in your picture

once the sensor & new pump are fitted....will they need diagnostics to code/pair them up to each other ?

NO !!!! you have to replace the brake shoes on both sides at the same time.....take pictures with your phone before you dismantle them---so you can see where the return springs attach to. this will make it easier to build the new ones back up. BEFORE you remove the old shoes, pull back the dust covers at each end of wheel cylinders---if there is any brake fluid in there, then the cylinder needs changing (in fact if 1 cylinder is leaking, then change them both).

fabias awaiting sensor which may arrive 6th or 7th ( its parked up at mates garage--taxed last week), other car went to different mate yesterday for welding repair to nsf out-rigger/ jacking point ready for its mot test on saturday---(road tax reminder arrived today) & both cars are overdue service as i bought a shed load of filters when eurocar parts cocked up their on-line prices ! So lockdown will be spent farting about with the cars, getting ready for winter and playing in the man cave out of sight.

yes, I did see the pictures posted, I have spent today on a load of European sites but they are all listing as left-hand drive fitments... Tomorrow I will start ringing all local breakers, then further afield.

thanks for the quick replies; I checked the German firm-left hand drive part only. A mate called today, he has one from an 03 reg--its not the 1-piece moulded loom, but the one were the loom connects at the sensor with a multi-plug---will this fit mine ??? i cant get the part till monday anyway, but it would be great to know if it will fit? thanks again

my cars been off the road for over 2 weeks now,(i'm recovering from surgery so cannot do it myself) so i left it in a mates garage, he has just has just rang to say it needs a steering angle sensor 6Q2423291A... it seems TPS in Europe don't have one !! Has anybody got a used one ? if so lets know how much and can you post to Liverpool asap please ? thanks

hello kenOneill; only a comfort spec, radio cassette was not connected but is inop anyway. fitted head unit today and will get changer fitted over the weekend if I get time. had to order a plastic trim to convert skoda-size radio to DIN size, that arrives next week so all should be done by then. Rear screenwash isn't working so im just about to order a screenwash pump as pipes & nozzle seem clear.

new to skoda ownership; read this forum and got it out in about 45 mins......took half a ton of tree leaves out of the fan unit and pollen filter as I decided to change pollen filter at same time ! resistor pack fitted and now all speeds working, next job is swap radio/cassette for a radio & multichanger ?
