After starting this topic two years ago I have just fitted a genuine Skoda tow bar myself to my Karoq that I had build with tow bar preparation.
Although expensive I decided to buy the Skoda electric release kit because of how neat it is and unless you look underneath there is no clue that a tow bar is fitted.
The kit cost me £621 inc vat ! from the Skoda dealer I bought the car from. (They wanted £1000 to supply and fit !)
At the time I purchased it I asked if the kit supplied was all I needed and was told everything was in the kit.
Anyway started on page one of the fitting instructions which were in the box.
The removal of the rear bumper looked a bit daunting but lots of screws and clips and following the instructions and it was off.
You have to remove and bin the large rear impact bar that runs across the back of the car which the tow bar replaces.
The cut out in the plastic bumper is marked on the inside so easy to cut out. I used a multi tool.
Electric module and operating switch from the kit fits on right hand wheel arch and plugs into the existing preparation spec harness.
Got to the last page of the instructions and it says tow bar has to be coded before it will work.
I was not happy with the dealer and Said I should have been told this.
To add insult to injury they said they wanted £144 to do this. They were adamant they had to charge even after I reminded them both me and my wife has bought new cars from them in the last two years
After a bit of “discussion” I reluctantly agreed on £60 inc vat. Carried out at the same time as 2nd oil change that I had pre paid for at time of car purchase ( bet coding was a 10 minute job).
Towbar works fine now, just a shame I won’t be giving them any more trade. Local independent garage next time for me.
In hindsight I should have had the towbar factory fitted on build so hope this story helps others.

I fitted some gas struts from Ali express 13 months ago. Just put a bit of rubber buffer under the front of the brackets to stop rubbing on bonnet skin.
The bonnet does not open quite as heigh as the manual strut but no problems at all.
It makes filling the screen wash etc very easy as the bonnet was quite heavy.
IMO easy mod well worth doing. -

Hi clivecoo,
I just wondered if you are still having any issues with your Karoq after having the 24EV update as in your letter, or is everything running as is should?
Hi Karr3.
I’ve done a couple of thousand miles since the update and no problems at all.
I’m very pleased with the car. On quite a few mornings I’ve left home early with minus temperatures and the engine just pulls away as smoothly as a warm start.
No hesitation at junctions and no sign of kangarooing. 👍

My wife has just bought a pre registered ( 5 miles on the clock) so as new colour edition citigo for £ 9450 with road tax, rubber mats, boot mat and mudflaps included.
She only does about 5000 miles a year and all local commute and pleasure journeys.
We would have loved to buy an electric version as there would be no range issues but the double the price difference made no sense at all.

I received the same letter this week. Not sure why they are being so selective with who is on their mailing list?
Do you own you car outright? I do. It was suggested earlier in the thread that they may only contacting people who are not leasing/PCP in case they don't have their servicing by Skoda?
I do own the car outright it's MY 19 but doubt if Skoda would treat it differently. It said safety recall on the envelope so would apply to the car not the way it was purchased.
I've not had any real issues with the car but thinking about it maybe a slight resistance to pick up for the first 100 yards after driving off with a cold engine but sat in the sun all day so Aircon and blower is on max when I drive away. We all tend to start and go so I thought it was just me punishing a cold motor.
It will be interesting to see if I notice any difference.

I’ve had my 1.5 DSG SEL for 9 months 9000 miles.
I don’t like 6 speed manual gearboxes so went for my first auto. I won’t be going back to manuals, love the car and the varioflex seats makes the carrying capacity excellent.

My Karoq is a months old and 7500 miles. Leather non electric seats.
I have to move the tilt lever to upright the seat every now and then. Possibly every 200 to 300 miles.
Must be some sort of cam lever slipping back. Wouldn’t happen if it was click in notches.
l will mention it to my dealer before 1st service.

From day one I thought the shiny smooth cover to the storage compartment in front of the gear lever was annoying as seemed the logical place to put keys or glasses but they would just slide off especially with the holes in the surround.
Normal non slip matting is too thick to allow the cover to slide with this type of mat in place.
A piece of pond liner is the solution!
I pushed a piece of paper down onto the cover to trace the shape and then cut the liner with a blade and steel rule leaving the front edge 15mm longer so that it tucked under the gap the cover slides into.
It is held in place by a 10mm strip of double sided tape under the end nearest the gear shift. I measured the thickness of the liner I used and it is 1.07mm thick so say 1mm.
The Cover slides in and out perfectly.

1 litre per 1000 km (600 miles) is permissible.
If mine was using a litre in 600 miles it would be straight back to the dealer.
Never had any car use that much including £50 bangers.

I briefly considered the “Strut Mod” when our Octavia arrived minus bonnet struts, but decided that butchering the OEM bonnet and wing area to take the shoddy mounting brackets would lead to long term rust problems.
And I can still lift and prop a bonnet in my old age so I’m glad I spent the cash elsewhere.
And as stated above, unlike many years ago I don’t have to open the bonnet every week just to keep the car running.
ps - I still love throwing the Kodiaq bonnet open with 1 hand 😀
No butchering involved when I fitted them to my karoq.
It only involves undoing one nut and fitting the bracket which admittedly I had smoothed the edges of and touched up with paint and then slipped a small piece of rubber under so end of bracket is not resting directly on the bonnet.
The bottom gas strut mounting hole is already there so wonder if gas struts are standard fit in some countries ? or if skoda just put them there in case they change the spec at a future date and don't have to re tool..
Not a must have feature butI thought not a lot of money to spend on a simple mod and only takes 5 minutes each side to fit.

I find the weight of the Karoq bonnet quite a handful.......
Has anyone given these a go?
I fitted these to mine, after ordering them while I was waiting for my Karoq to me delivered.
They do not lift quite as high as the standard prop but work well.
I did put a small piece of rubber under the front of the brackets that rest on the bonnet strengthening metalwork.
They make filling the washer tank and checking levels very easy as the bonnet is quite heavy.

I have the 2 wheel drive 1.5 petrol SEL
DSG . 4 months and 4000 miles,no issues. Smooth and quiet with ample performance.
It's my first car with an auto box and I don't think I would buy another car without it to use as a daily drive.
Forums by nature tend to highlight issues some people have and rightly so but I would hazard a guess that a lot of owners have no problems. Test drive and work out the spec you want. Have fun !

Ive now had my 1.5tsi DSG for about three months and still no issues at all except that its black and needs washing every twenty minutes.
Likewise I've had my 1.5 DSG for 4 months 4000miles no issues its blue so only needs washing every hour. Great car.

I put this tip and pictures in the karoq guides section a few days ago.
Hooks are 100mm long.

Love the car, its great but I've found a couple of personal annoyances! Middle seat / arm rest being the main. As mentioned earlier, vulnerable from sharp objects in the back, and the middle seat belt clickers (don't know the technical term) when folding the seats up dig into the leather leaving big indentations, even when pulled out they manage to find themselves back in resting on the leather. The middle seat bungee cord is also too short to reach the driver seat headrest from my driving position.
Have to agree with you on the bungee cords. Poor design in my opinion.
This is my solution . Cheap chrome hooks stored under seat on magnets when not in use.

I think the bungee cords that hold the back seats up when folded forward are a poor design. Way to much effort required to hook them around the headrest chrome tubes.
I find it difficult and my wife finds it impossible.
Look at the pictures and see the easy modification.
I had some chrome 100 mm S hooks laying around in the garage, I think they were only a pound for 3 from a market stall.
3 small strong magnets secure them under the seats when not in use so easily to get at when required.

My brother claimed under gap insurance when he got rear ended waiting to cross a junction. Car was replaced with newer model as his was no longer available.
I got it for the karoq "just in case"

I find the bungee cords very difficult to get round the headrest tubes and I am not weak. Poor design and will be having a word with the dealer asking them to try it themselves.
I have some chrome S hooks that I put
Round tubes first and then fit the pull out bungee.

My 1.5 DSG is 6 weeks old and has no problems. 1400 miles. No kangarooing no surging etc. Built week 48 2018.
My first DSG box makes changing gear with your hand seem odd now.
What a great car! Very pleased.

I've also been trying to get my head around the telephone system.
Is there a way of accepting a incoming call without reaching over to the touch screen I have tried pressing the voice button on the steering wheel but it did not connect.
Towbar prep. What is done when built ?
