  1. I’ve used Michelin Cross climate tyres successfully on my Octavia and my last Karoq. The YouTube feature that mumpsim linked to identified Pirelli as the best tyre from the test. My experience is that the tread pattern on cross climate tyres definitely helps cut through the softer snow, but the factory fit Nexen tyres are poor. The village we live in seems to be susceptible to heavy snow when it does arrive, and isn’t very well served by the council snow clearing, as they rightly so are concentrating on the main routes.
  2. Thanks SurreyJohn. I might look at getting a set of steel rims with tyres. I wouldn’t go as far as to buy alloys for winter. My other option, as mumpsim mentioned, is to buy four all season tyres and sell the factory fit Nexen tyres that have <1,500 miles. The review has identified Pirelli as the favoured option. I’ve had Michelin Crossclimate before, but they’re also a bit more expensive.
  3. @mumpsim Very interesting tyre comparison feature on the YouTube link 👍
  4. Thanks Ootohere 👍
  5. Thanks for this mumpsim... very useful 😀
  6. Fair comment, thanks 👍 I must admit I only thought about improving traction on the driven wheels.
  7. Hello, I'm looking for some advice on fitting winter tyres to my 2024 Karoq. Hopefully too late for this winter, but in readiness for following years. The car was supplied with standard 18" alloy rims, but the full size spare is a 16" rim (6J x 16 ET43). As the 16" wheel was supplied as a spare, I'm assuming the brake disc / caliper is sized to suit and has clearance, so I was considering getting another steel wheel - 6J x 16 ET43, then buying two winter tyres and only swapping the front wheels as and when required. The other thing I'm unsure about is the bolt pitch diameter, but I think that might be stamped on the spare, if I look again. I've been looking on www.autopink-shop.co.uk (https://www.autopink-shop.co.uk/rims/details?vehicleId=1388704077032469616&rimCode=MWD16236) Have any contributors had any experience of their service and would be willing to recommend? Are there any other considerations I need to be aware of? There's a note about TMPS (tyre pressure monitoring system) on the above-mentioned website. Thanks 😀
  8. On board diagnostics 🤦🏽‍♂️
  9. Thank for your reply BCEly. Excuse my ignorance, what’s OBD?
  10. Slightly different issue…My 70 plate Karoq had an issue with the infotainment system. There was a message reading ‘SOS error - visit workshop’, or words to that effect, which required a visit to the local Skoda workshop for a software update. Car was in Friday and we collected it Saturday morning. A short time later, my wife and I were both outside the car and it locked itself with both keys inside, but wing mirrors still open and not folded in. Cost £120+VAT to get the car opened by a locksmith. I’ve left the car unlocked before and it has never locked itself, so my question is, could the software update of the infotainment system have reset the car locking system to lock itself if the car is left even for a short period of time. Any help gratefully received, as a claim to the dealer is pending.
  11. Car has been in at the dealership today. Just heard that the 5F unit (in the glovebox) has failed. Seemingly they’ve had a few similar failures recently. 🤷🏽‍♂️
  12. Thanks vegit8. Tried rebooting the computer as suggested, but no luck. I’ll call the dealer tomorrow, as I can’t progress past the ‘loading’ screen
  13. @olderman1 No joy I'm afraid. How do I go about the factory reset?
  14. Thanks olderman1, just tried that and came back in to find your message. A bit alarmed by the loud noise, but happy to hear that's nothing unusual. I'll go and try three times in succession.....
  15. I have a 70 reg Skoda Karoq. Today, it hasn't loaded the user profile and is sitting for ages on 'loading user profile'. Consequently the radio, sat nav, phone etc. are unuseable. Additionally, there's a message about 'SOS, return to workshop' or words to that effect. Tried to call the local dealer, but all I could get was a used car salesman, who wasn't much help and suggested I return the car to the dealer on Monday. (It's only just been dealer serviced last Thursday). Any thoughts?

Yeah, that’s what I’m beginning to think about. Snow has been mad here and gritters concentrating on main routes. Will call around local fitters in the morning. Even Michelin cross climate would be a decent alternative at the moment and I would probably leave them on and sell the <3500mile factory fitted tyres.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Much appreciated and plenty of food for thought 👍🏼

Yeah, I think that was just ‘as supplied’ as a spare c/w tyre, they’re limited to 50mph. Probably not the cheapest option, if you were to buy just for the sake of getting the wheels. For some reason they seem to have chosen not to supply steel wheels as a spare. Not sure why, as any part would be ordered as requested, so it’s not like they’re stocking them. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Cheers Kenny, don’t suppose you have a part number for the 17” rims? 🙏🏼

Folks, Anyone know where I might get steel rims to fit the Karoq, so I can fit winter tyres? I called the local dealer in Aberdeen, but they only do alloys and the spare wheels are only for <50mph. Just looking for a couple of rims for the front, but depending on price, I’d take 4 and swap them out to save the alloys. Thanks ❄️

I’ve just changed from an Octavia to a Karoq. The ‘17 reg Octavia allowed me to connect my iPod classic via a USB-A connection in the centre console. However, the ‘20 reg Karoq now has USB-C connection and having bought an adapter, I have discovered that the iPod is now incompatible. Additionally, there is no SD card slot and my attempts to experiment with a USB ‘pen drive’ resulted in a horrendous ‘electronic noise’ suggesting something wasn’t quite right. Does anyone have any suggestions / recommendations for a suitable solution. My iPhone doesn’t have storage capacity and I’d rather have all my music readily accessible, than have to change files regularly. Any hints or tips or recommend gadgets would be very much appreciated. Thanks 😊
