  1. Hi, I have just (today) changed the camshaft oil seal and fitted a new cambelt to my 1.9D (year 2000) now at 115,000 Miles. I fitted a new water pump at the same time (small leak). I now have a whining noise that i didn't have before. I've just taken the cambelt top cover off to investigate..... The alternator belt tracks straight and true: The new cam belt doesn't! it waivers by maybe 2mm most noticeably on the injection pump pulley. any ideas ? Thanks,

  3. Whilst changing the diesel fuel filter in my Felicia 1.9D ( 60,000 mile service): I managed to let some air into the fuel system. The car started for a few seconds, but didn't run long enough to get the air out. Now I can't start it. Help: what to do? Sea Kayaker
  4. How to check the diesel injector pump timing? When fitting a new cam belt recently, I used the crankshaft mark ( bell housing inpection hole), the cam holding tool (with equal feeler gauges each side to take out any slack) and injection pump locating pin. Are there any other checks that I can do to verify that the injection system is set up for maximum fuel economy? Many Thanks, Sea Kayaker Edit: Before, and after Cam Belt change, I get 55mpg on long runs, but want to improve on that figure.
  5. Hi, I ran a 1997 1.3MPI estate for almost 100,000 miles, and got 44mpg driven gently on long runs. To and from work in traffic, down to 37mpg. Heavy winter use, short journeys, using lower gears, lots of electrics etc, down to 32mpg. So, you certainly have a problem to fix. As others have suggested, check ECU and fault codes. also worth checking tyre pressures, take roof rack off, keep windows closed, dragging brakes? Let us know when you find the culprit. Sea Kayaker
  6. I had the same happen to my '97 1.3 MPi I didn't fit a regulator, but complete alternator (because that's all I could get on the day i needed it): it solved my voltage problem. The airbag warning light was now on all the time. The Skoda MainDealer wanted something like £60 to investivate the airbag blight "fault" for me. A local non-franchised VW garage plugged in his fault code reader, and found it had gone under voltage then over voltage, and of course airbag light. He "reset" my car, solving the problem, all for the sum of £10. Hope this helps, SeaKayaker
  7. Out of idle curiosity, I took a few measurements from the 2 green band TempSenders that don't do the stuff at warm start. I don't really want to take out my new Blue band just to measure it (and lose yet more antifreeze). The 2 green bands (one genuine VAG made in Luxembourg, one pattern part made in Italy) both seem to be within about 10% of each other: Done in the kitchen: 400 Ohms resistance @ 90deg C, 1300 ohms @ 15deg C, 8000 ohms @ Minus 15 deg C (in freezer). I wonder what the Blue Band measures? Sea Kayaker
  8. OK, done that, being very careful. I can just see the oil surface between the cog in the opening, and the bottom of the casing, by looking into the hole with a good torch. but nothing on the speedo driven piece after wiping with a clean tissue and carefully inserting vertically. If i nudge the car with my legs whilst leaning over and looking into the hole, the oil level easily sloshes over the shoulder and into the bottom of the locating recess for the driven piece, allowing me to get a reading (though a now incorrect reading). It is clean oil so I may have been changed. But, what is the correct level? should it still be 4mm, as per the older Haynes manual? advice please... Sea Kayaker
  9. More on this thread: I have just been on the phone to my local Skoda dealer, discussing TempSender issue again. He explained that over the years, the various Felicia engines had a "number" of warm start problems, and with the benefit of hindsight, most were cured by using a TempSender with a different resistance... The Blue Band version certainly fixed my car. Hope this helps, Sea Kayaker

  12. I have just bought a year 2000 Felicia 1.9D How do I check the gearbox oil level? The haynes manual method (worked fine on my old '97 1.3i ) but doesn't seem possible with the later gearbox. The pastic cog drops off the end of the cable, and is in danger of being lost into the gearbox, without being able to measure the oil level. Any advice appreciated. many thanks, Sea Kayaker
