  1. @Lady Elanore... Thanks for your detailed responses. These are the connections taken from the instruction manual... Hopefully the photos are attached below...
  2. I had what seems to be this exact problem. Mine was eventually solved when it went for an MOT and they said they said the ball joint was worn. Replaced that and the problem was gone. About a year later it started again so I booked it in for the other ball joint replacing but due to an admin error on the paperwork the garage weren't sure which they had initially replaced. They replaced both to be sure and again the problem was gone. Mine was a very loud creaking at low speed and happened whether I was turning the steering wheel slightly or even when I was setting off in a traffic jam. Sometimes it would even do it if I was parked on the drive and just turned the steering wheel very slightly from one side to the other.
  3. That's what I was first thinking AG Falco. Not sure if there is a headphone socket. I don't remember seeing one but I'd be surprised if it didn't. If it doesn't have a headphone output then it seems a sound bar with a digital optical connection is probably the way to go although he has stated that it's not bothering him that much at the moment, so I'll just wait and see if it gets worse. Thanks for all the replies.
  4. He doesn't wear a hearing aid. A sound bar might be ok but perhaps overkill. I'm just wary of buying something and it not work as most equipment these days seem to mention bluetooth or hdmi.
  5. It's approx. 5mm square(ish) connection with a red light shining out of it if I remember correctly. Thanks
  6. Hi... The built in speakers on my Dad's Samsung tv that's about 15 years old have been playing up for a while so I'm thinking of buying some cheap external speakers to plug in but I'm struggling to find some to connect via "Digital Audio Out (Optical)" that the tv seems to need. Tech generally isn't my forte so I'm a bit lost. He's a bit deaf so doesn't need anything fancy and also he's old so won't want to upgrade the tv unless absolutely necessary. Any advice about finding some speakers and connecting via that format..? Thanks
  7. Hi.... I will be needing new tyres soon (possibly all four). My current tyres are 215/55 R17 94V Michelin Cross Climate 2. My usual tyre fitting company don't always seem to have availability of the 94V version but do have the heavier duty 98W version. I know what the numbers and letters actually mean and that theoretically the tyres may feel firmer due to the stronger side walls, but.... How different is it likely to be in real world driving and are there any other differences I may notice ? For reference my car is 2018 Superb Petrol 1.4 TSi Manual with 50,000 on the clock. Thanks
  8. I'm no expert but that sounds a bit like the problem I had last weekend with my 1.4 TSi which turned out to be loose bolts at the cam belt on one of the pulleys. Mine was the camshaft pulley bolts but I guess there are a few possible contenders in that same region. I'm sure mine doesn't sound like that when it starts up... unless this sounds worse on video than real life.
  9. I think the consensus for creaking when going over speed bumps seems to be anti roll bar bushes but with the occasional other culprit now and again too. Do you get a severe creak when coming to a stop in slow moving traffic or when moving off..?
  10. OK. The mechanic did say at first that new bolts might be needed if they were stretch bolts, but when I went back to pick the car up he was confident that they weren't going anywhere now that he'd used thread lock or whatever it's called. I'm now wondering how easy it would be to remove them to replace, or do I just leave it for now until the mot and service are due in March and see if I can get them replaced then.
  11. I haven't had the timing belt done, and I've owned the car from 12,000 miles.
  12. The car is five years old. I've had it for three years and it had 12,000 miles on it when I got it, so although I'm not 100 percent sure the belt hasn't been replaced previously, it hasn't been done by me since it was 2 years old and had 12,000 on the clock.
  13. It's a belt. The garage removed all the bolts, cleaned out the threads, applied something (thread lock ?) and then re-fitted the bolts.
  14. Hi.... Just a bit of as heads up.... I got in my Superb 1.4 TSi 2018 (50,000 miles) on Friday night and the engine started making an almighty rattling / clattering / knocking noise. When I took it to a local indy garage the next day they said it sounds exactly like another Skoda they had in the previous week. The one they looked at before wasn't a Superb (can't remember which model they said), but it had done similar relatively low mileage and a bolt was loose at the camshaft pulley. When they investigated mine further they found all the bolts were loose and one of them was just about ready to fall out. The mechanic's exact words were.... "You have been very very lucky". It sounds like if the bolt had fallen out it could have dropped down and trashed the timing belt (or other associated timing gear I expect). Not sure if this is a common problem but I've seen a few discussions about when to get the timing belt changed and I can't help feeling that getting it changed at 4 years or 50,000 miles, even if overkill, could possibly mean this being spotted.
  15. Thanks UndertheRadar..... I'll bear H&R in mind if I do need to get the ARB replaced. The loudest and most annoying creaking I've had has been ball joints. I had one replaced last year and the noise disappeared instantly, but just started to come back so have just had both replaced and at the moment, the loud creaks have gone again. I still have some minor creaks which probably are the ARB but I can cope with those at the current minor noise level. If the loud noise returns next year, maybe I will look for something uprated like you have.
