  1. I'd sit tight for a bit if you can. Someone way more knowledge on here than me will tell you if the cheaper tools can reset air bag faults. I researched the cheaper ones a while back and not all do air bags. Unless your MOT is looming, no tearing hurry. I am curious why I've only had this with the Fabia, every other car we've owned with air bag faults have been seat connection or airbag ecu. Having said all that , battery on our Fabia died over xmas, jumped it and put new battery on, no airbag light prob this time.
  2. Do your child seats not have the option of securing with the seat belt as opposed to the base? We never had isofix in our day, all child seats were secured with the seat belt. Understand it's not ideal in your case but if its safe and gets you out of a hole........
  3. It's been 15 years since we had to use car seats, but can't you use a reverseible child's seat in the front passenger seat?
  4. Same thing happened to me when we bought our Fabia. I know dealer had to jump start car b4 I collected it. Eventually when it failed on me he replaced the battery but when it failed it brought the air bag light on. I checked connectors under seats , no luck, ended up at a back street garage who cleared fault. Sorry I'm rambling and no real help to you, just curious why a duff battery can bring an air bag light on. Do you not have an independent garage near you? My local one would use their snap on one to clear air bag code for a tenner.
  5. That's basically the reason I went for the make I did, to do away with batteries. In a house that has remotes everywhere we used to spend a fortune on them. Wife eventually bought battery recharger, and gradually switched to rechargable AAA, to save on cost. Used to buy the Poudland batteries, cheap but no weight in them and don't seem to last. We have 4 Amazon Fire sticks , noticed they won't tolerate cheap batteries either. Most of our rooms now have electric sockets with usb charger facility, so no excuse to not have head torch charged .
  6. Many thanks for taking time to provide the comprehensive explanation UrbanPanzer. I'll not pretend I fully understand it yet, but I'll reread it over next few days . Tbh just glad it passed, had 1st jab 3 weeks ago and still feel rough, so was not looking forward to pulling it all apart again.
  7. Sorry, I had the nsr break, but changed both.
  8. Ok, thanks JR, I didn't interpret the figures the way you have. Be nice if vosa had a guide on the back of the report to explain the parameters in layman's terms. My first thought on seeing 25% with the pass rate set at 16% was just scraped through.
  9. So interestingly checked mot history and car failed mot for fractured osr spring in May 16, with previous owner. However Skoda dealership only changed the broken one , not the pair. I thought like discs these should be changed both sides at once. I've changed the nsr.
  10. Well it passed thank gawd. Got new style brake test report with mot cert and emissions report. Not seen one of these before, can anyone explain the test results at the bottom, particularly the efficiency section? Doesn't look brilliant to me , 25% efficient on park brake yet still passed? Unfortunately garage has been taken over so couldn't ask mot man with Covid restrictions.
  11. (08:32:18 AM) Cassie: Ok so the OE is 6Q0 511 115 AF which matches the KYB RA5136- that's a quote from Parts In Motion when the lady was checking for the correct item. Even their site said that was wrong , so fair play to her for sorting it. Can't believe it matches what you've posted Carlston , not normally that lucky!
  12. Yes, sorry, didn't think that one thru.
  13. Yes, normally more noticeable after a 60 mile journey. The dealer had the clutch fitted before I bought the car although he advertised it as a plus point. I've had the car nearly 2 years now so I'll not bother the gentleman, especially as I had to point out to him that the law had changed on adding a percentage when paying with card....... Our previous car rattled like this for ages with no disasters so I'll live with it for the mo.
  14. Just hypothersising, and given your extensive list and cost, would it be possible to buy 2 doors from a breakers with electric windows fitted, obviously in your cars colour, and just swap your doors ? Obviously you've got the skills to do what you've done but someone like myself lower down the skills set looking for an easier route, would it be feasible?
  15. Thanks Wino, tbh forgot to take measurements before starting, but standing back and looking at car looks right. Took Carlstons advice and counted coil turns , both new and old the same. e-Roottoot nice to have somewhere you can trust.
  16. Presume you mean because of the difference in colour dots . The replacement springs had no dots, so I'm presuming ones I've replaced were the originals. Not bad then for age of car. If thats your workshop and lift I'm jealous. Getting too old grubbing about on my knees on cold driveways.
  17. Well , job done and both springs fitted. No real probs apart from cleverly supporting car on axle stands on rear beam then realising needed it to move to get clearance. Old springs came out without needing spring compressors, thanks to all who said not to bother buying them. Replacement springs had same number of turns so that's good. Pictures below: The offending article , and a few useful tools to make life easier. Head torch from Tool Station £10. Absolutely love this, charges off usb so no batteries needed, no more faffing about trying to balance phone torch. Aldi impact driver £20 bare, got a few of their cordless tools. Still crack nuts off with breaker, then use this to unwind, great time saver. Lastly socket converter from Tool Station £4. Took drums off again, lubricated all pivot points and adjusted cable in cab, now on 5 clicks. MOT brought foward tomorrow now, so we'll see what Paul our friendly MOT tester has to say about handbrake. Thanks again for everyone's advice and your time in supplying pictures etc. Nearly forgot- the wheel barrow. For years been walking past it while humping tools from shed to driveway. 3 weeks ago had eureka moment, now use the barrow to move them all in one hit. Amount of years I've walked past it? 10+ dear God. And a
  18. Wow, were you stationery when that broke? Any tyre damage?
  19. It's not too sad, I'll slap some copper grease on. You must be pysichic- old spring broke on the end , maybe an inch piece. Remember now loud bang coming down M2 one night, so presume it was that.
  20. Tbh I'd rather have manual wind windows . We've had no end of agg with the electric windows in our Megane. Quite happy our Fabia has windy windows in back. Car Analytics will give you a free run down of it's MOT history.
  21. Ok Carlston, thanks will do. They've both got the same code RA5136 on boxes. Annoyingly ones got a chip in the protective coating. Just put them on a flat surface, they look the same height. Both have 8 coil turns. The ride on our Fabia has always seems rock hard
  22. They've arrived! Thanks Parts In Motion and Fed Ex. Tomorrow the fun begins.
  23. Another plus for axle stands. Years ago came back to then girlfriend's house to find her father trapped under her mums car . He'd tried to work under it supported just with a sissor jack. At the time he was headmaster of a school for special need children and an ex aircraft traffic controller, so a very intelligent man, yet still took a short cut. Also once had to drive a truck off a tyre fitters hand , when his jack collapsed with his hand under front wheel. For me jacks for lifting , axle stand for supporting. Although maybe easier with trolley jack, can't see prob with sissor jack, we have a brick paver drive on a slope , often find trolley jack wheels moving as car is lifted
  24. And a bottle of Comma Diesel Magic , always does the trick.
