  1. thanks for the clarification pikpilot, yes I've lived with this through a MK1 Octavia and a current Mk2 Fabia 😆 so my routine is "open driver's side passenger door first" it's so annoying that it's only the driver's door that does it on my Fabia! and a new door lock mechanism didn't fix it either grr **edited to say, nothing broken in the elephant's trunk either**
  2. so they should illuminate, and as such, it's a fault?
  3. Hi all, Sorry, probably a daft question - but is there any valid reason why the little 'door open' light / warning wouldn't show when opening doors on an Octy Mk2? do they have one?? I haven't had a MK2 before, but my MK2 Fabia shows which door is open...apart from the driver door which doesn't do it as I guess the module is gone I ask as I viewed one yesterday and it didn't come on with the driver or passenger doors open - but I don't know if I should be offput. Do the MK2s have the same daft issues with door control modules / microswitches etc as the MK1s did? I don't know if it's pertinent, but the engine was running and the lights on, and the 'bulb gone' yellow bulb symbol was lit up as well It was a 2012 Octavia Elegance 2.0tdi, nice tidy car with 100k miles and full skoda dealer SH Cheers if you can advise, a google has not returned any sensible results! Will
  4. I've been quoted £450 to have my air con condenser replaced, they said they'll have to take the front end off and that the condenser itself will be £140. (This is a 1.9tdi MK2 Fabia estate btw) Does this seem ok? It seems to be within other quotes I've seen people get. I'm hesitating as I'm £4k into the car already and only had it since April 21, it's on 150k miles now. Have been thinking about trying to sell it on and getting an Avensis estate with around 100k miles
  5. Never thanked you for your reccomendation, now I've replaced my tailgate I've ordered some and will get to work with a craft knife!
  6. Hi all, I've just had a new tailgate painted and have fitted it, but not sure how to approach remounting the badge. As seen in the pictures, it has two prongs to fit the holes: do I just use some double sided sticky foam to help it stay on? Obviously it need to be as waterproof as possible... The prongs aren't threaded or anything and I can't see any screws left over to secure it at the back Any experience or tips much appreciated!
  7. ****! Knew I'd forgotten something 😅 I'll edit the post now
  8. Hi, As the subject states, I have 4 17" Gigaro alloys with 205/45/17s mounted. Both sets of tyres have decent tread, two are newer than the others. Front were fitted last March, backs were a few months before that. I don't have a tread gauge but they're both well legal (as you can see from the 20p test, pictured) I would estimate around 4-5mm ish tread on them. Two are Landsail, two are General Tyre. They're in pretty decent condition, but not perfect, as you can see. One has a weld repair that was professionally done, the worst scuff is on the second picture. There's light kerb damage around most of the edges and the paint is starting to flake slightly. They're normally mounted with 40 profile tyres but I put 45s on them to improve the crashy ride. They fit my Fabia wheel arches, I'm sure they'll fit many other cars beside, but I can't tell you which. https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipNC54ENluz8WfaqXiEtNBX0najIZCX-CaXFNSj7aqYuwqy7UWyx1el2NoCYSAJxxQ?key=VGd6ajdnWHpzNWFZUTl6ZElVODBYWVF2Wndhekx3 more photos are here, let me know if the link doesn't work - I'm looking for something around £200 please feel free to PM me offers.
  9. I must have read every forum post regarding this issue several times over, and have got no closer to sorting it out - but have just tried some of the attached in between the 'top' glovebox and the rest of the dash, and will update this thread if it does actually help I made a video of the squeaking / rattling / rubbing noise (https://youtube.com/shorts/UVHOzadrk-s ), it doesn't happen all the time, just most of the time, and can be silenced by pushing down, even just slightly, on the lid of the top glovebox. I'm aware it may be something just behind, inside the dash, I haven't seen any loose / rattling clips or components behind it, but will happily have a second look if someone can suggest anything. Has anyone got any new ideas to tackle this?? no need to suggest 'turn the radio up' or 'empty the glovebox' it can be heard through loud music and it still does it with both gloveboxes empty!
  10. thanks for the help and advice everyone, I managed to narrow down which kind I'll get, think I'll go for some standard Fabia 15 alloys when I see some come available at a breaker
  11. I've not lowered it, but not sure if someone else might've. I'd wager tired out
  12. I'm talking tallness of the tyre wise, I actually tried 50 profiles but they rubbed
  13. Hi toot, yes they are 205/45/17, and as you say they are oversized, they barely fit. That's good to know, I'll miss them as they look cracking but as I say, I want some nice fat tyres to stop feeling every single pebble I drive over (and by God are the roads bad where I live...oh wait, that's all of the UK)
  14. Hi all, I posted another thread about this the other day, but now I'm a bit clearer on what I need, I just need a bit more advice from someone who knows! I want some 15" alloys for my Fabia as I'm sick of the hard ride I get on 17s with 45 profile tyres, there are quite a few sets available on eBay but for Polos, Roomsters and Ibizas, which I assumed would fit as they're all VAG cars. Before I bother going to see them and potentially wasting a couple of hundred pounds, I'm looking to find out if they'll actually fit. An online search of a wheel database tells me that my car should take either 6Jx15 ET43 (or ET37) alloys with 195 width or 185 width tyres, so I should be ok in that respect but do I need to worry about the offset?? I'm not sure really what it means, is there a range within which it'll be safe, or does it have to be exact? Most of the wheels I've seen match most of these figures, but none match exactly. These are some I'm looking at, for an example - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/195713828129, and https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/285141388880 and attached below is one of my current wheels, which fit quite tightly into the wheel well.
  15. quite right NTA, a supervisor confirmed that the system had reccommended the wrong battery, and as for the terminals, he was trying to remedy the post being too big by using grease and a hammer!!
