  1. Funnily enough I was planning to post some thoughts on this, as I had this upgrade done recently. A chance to finally give back!

First impressions from new was that it was very, very heavy and the biting point was non-existent (and forget about hill start).

I was originally pretty worried that if this was going to be the final state I was going to be in for a hard time. I was assured that it would soften up over time and reading up online I found that you need to put in at least 500 miles of stop-start town driving for new clutches like this to bed in (i.e. a lot of gear changes and clutch movement, not motorway miles). Also it was advised to avoid changes over 3000 rpm during the bed in.

Luckily (or unluckily), I had a few road trips I needed to do, with plenty of town driving involved and it softened up nicely. At over 1000 miles now, and clutch feel is much more like OEM, and hill start and biting point seems to be much better.  Changing up at high rpm it's so much better than the last OEM clutch in that there is no slippage or hesitation - it just changes gear and goes - and it feels like the car is actually handling the power better (for example the missus only just noticed the stage 1 power increase with the new clutch in, whilst I was accelerating back onto the motorway from the hard shoulder at 3/4ths throttle input ).

The clutch does feel slightly heavier than stock, and hill start and biting point feel slightly different but you can get used it quickly.

PM me if you want more details or have questions.

  2. Hmm, thanks @pab567 both the new unit and display were sold from the same car, so I don't think it has been reworked. So it should just plug and play and load start up screen regardless of CP? Is there a way to check if it has been reworked?

When fiddling with it yesterday it definitely had power going to it, but the screen wouldn't switch on. I could see a CP warning when I checked for faults afterwards.

Anything else I need to check?

    Thanks again!

  3. So first setback yesterday, my eBay sourced new unit and new screen which was supposedly completely unlocked seemed to power on, but didn't display anything on the screen. Checking the car using OBDeleven seems to indicate that CP was triggered. At least the new screen works and looks great!

@Pabs would be grateful for your help sir! The new unit is currently out of car. I can PM you more details about the parts

You just need VAG radio tools, 4 for the screen and 2 for the radio. Just insert the tools and pull the parts out of the car. On the FL screens the bottom 2 on the screen are covered by a piece of trim and this can be easy to break. If you look at all the breakers on eBay they all have screens with missing trims and they don’t have a separate part number iirc.

Thanks Sasha, very helpful (as ever)! Really appreciate it :)

M7R, mine likely won't be up for silly money, but I need to get the new one in and check what is what first

  5. Hello all, I'm a long time lurker on the site! Special hello to Sasha, you are so helpful on here and your thread has inspired so many  (now including me, since I'm planning to get started on a virtual cockpit retrofit! Wish me luck!)

Funnily enough, I will have the Amundsen mentioned ready for sale as soon as I get my newly sourced Colombus bits swapped into my car, so M7R please PM me if interested.

Regarding, swapping out the headunit, I had a look across the site but couldn't find any guides for swapping out a headunit and display. Does anyone know of some good ones? Failing that, anyone know any Skoda ICE specialists in Kent/Essex area?

    Thanks
