the engine is the same bore/ stroke and capacities but the electronics and the peripherals are completely different. The old engines are euro 2 -3 and the avu and bfq are euro 4

mine mk1 has canbus and I found it when I fixed a window regulator I didn't push the connector all the way in and I had a canbus comm error.
-
If the km you say are real it won't cost you much till the 200000km after that mine needed a lot to be done on the cooling system and the front suspension.

The original spark plugs for your engine are NGK BKUR6ET-10
-
Check the fuse box on top of the battery for melted plastic or lose connections.
-
if you cant see it remove the SAIR for better access
-
No the removal of the manifold is not necessery you need special tools in order to reach them http://www.ebay.com/itm/VW-Audi-Spark-Plug-Wire-Boot-Remover-2-0-engine-Tool-/281702246598

There is a metalic clip that holds the breather locked in place you have to pull it out in order to remove it.
-
-
spray it with some wd-40 and push it in
-
Yes fix it and it will be fine
-
I had the same fault and all i had to do is to reseat the connector for the window mechanism which i had recently fixed.
-
one or more glowplags era not working that is why your car isnt starting.
-
You have to completely remove the old adhesive in order to install the new one .
-
Yes replace the sensor the thermostat would cause the indicator to fluctuate but slowly.
-
The top hose which goes to the radiator should be cold when you start the car and should get hot when the engine temp is 100-105c ,if it gets hot gradualy the thermostat is stuck open.
-
Symptom 1. with the temp sensor pump and thermostat replaced the problem is with your instrument cluster or the wiring.
Symptom 2. blocked heater matrix or pipes.
Symptom 3. post fault codes in order to help you.
Symptom 4. under the battery tray is the controler for the fans tell your mechanic or better take it to an electrician to check it.

Dont drive the car until you replace the water pump, if the thermostat was at fault you would have hot air at the heater.

350000 km, 1.6 74 kw .Spend 1 liter oil on 400 km .Piston rings are worn i think. If I change rings how many km can I go till overhaul or is it better to replace the engine?
Are you sure that the piston rings are worn? it is possible that the valve stem oil seals are worn.
-
yes that is correct mine failed also and i replaced it with this one http://www.savelparts.gr/skoda-octavia-1u2-1-6-102hp/antallaktika/trofodosia-anaflexi/aisthitiras-strofon-palmodotis/ilektroniko-sustima-kinitira-meyle-1008990045.html

Also check the engine mounts especialy the one under the engine.

Thanks! I changed the thermostat yesterday and i actually got better. The air still gets a little colder when the car idle but not ner as much.
Yes it was the return that broke. Ordered one now. What could happen if i drive the car until i change it?
when the thermostat is closed that is the only way for the cooling fluid to circulate arround the engine if that pipe is blocked the hot water wont reach the thermostat and it will stay closed and your engin will overheat.
-
Yes the tank was broken. Replaced it today. I also loosende termostat and the hoses and started the engine for a few seconds and i think the water flow just fine. I also checked the heater and nothing that seems to be blocking it. Also broke the plastic for the little hose so i blocked that (the hose) for now... Feel like a idiot...
First replace the broken part i supose that you broke the return to the expansion tank (dont drive the car until you fix it)
Refild with water and ler it for a while. The temperature rises to the middle of the gauge in what i think is normal time but still no heat.
That is normal .
But when i drive there is some heat but i dissaperes when i drive slow. But the temp gauge is perfekt the whole time..
Do you have climatronic or the old style controls for the heat? if you have climatronic you need vag com to check it for codes
The lower radiator hose is cold and the top one is warm. Could it be the termostat? Seems strange to me when the temp gauge is ok.
The thermostat is ok from your description. but after a long drive the lower radiator hose should be warm also
-
Yes it sure looks like it. But can it have anything to do with the loss of heat inside the car
Yes if a small piece of broken plastic went trough the cooling system it could block the hose to the heater radiator.
Ticking noise
in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)

the noise comes from the motor flaps of the climatronic. if you want to stop it you need vcds in order to reset the basic settings for every motor flap.
