  1. I hear what you say but as many people have stated there appears to be little you can do after the 1st year. You have to give the dealership the opportunity to repair the vehicle. Skoda UK were not interested and told me my contract was with the dealership and not them. I have had a number of issues with the car which have been repaired under warranty but it has put me off completely. It was the 1st brand new car I have owned and it will likely be my last as it has had more problems than any car I have had. I have had many new company cars in my working life and never had any problems with any of them so this was a real disappointment. As I have yet to reach 18000 miles in four years I hope it will last me out.
  2. I am so pleased you got a good result and a full refund. As my car was outside the 1st year of warranty my dealership told me they could not give me a refund but they did at least find my leak and repair it. I have never felt the same about my car since this experience and although I loved my previous Octavia, I would not buy another Skoda. I think you made a good choice with the Qashqai as although I'm not keen on the styling my daughter has one and it has been brilliant. With 115,00 miles on the clock the engine still pulls like a train and it has much better suspension than my Karoq which I have always though rather harsh over poor road surfaces and as that is all we have these days you have done the right thing. Best wishes!!
  3. Thanks for that Stu. Whats the action like and where did you buy yours?
  4. Thanks for that. I had a feeling they may not be quite strong enough as the angle they are fitted is too acute. I have to admit that I prefer the look of those which are tucked away but the other style which uses longer gas struts attached further along the inner wing would obviously have more purchase as they are at a much better angle almost as soon as the bonnet is raised off the stops. I was looking at the one fitted to the Tiguan which is fitted to a fairly large bracket mounted to the bulkhead and uses a much longer gas strut which kind of convinced me to go that direction.
  5. To be fair, I don't think there are any UK suppliers as such. You can get UK struts but they are of little use without the bracketry to fit them and they all come from China.
  6. Yes thanks for that. I had seen them but wasn't keen on the mounting brackets, but I guess they are cheap enough to give them a try.
  7. Hi Warrior193 Thanks for that - is that a complete kit with brackets ? - where can I find them please ?
  8. Thanks for that Modders I wasn't really bothered before but I have two frozen shoulders now ( it's my age ) so a little help wouldn't go amiss. Dont fancy the aftermarket ones as they look a bit of a bodge and you never know the quality of the struts themselves. Oh well just have to struggle for a bit longer. Luckily only ever lift the bonnet to top up the washers.
  9. Anyone know if the 2022/23 Karoqs have bonnet struts ? If so are the parts available to fit to 2019 model?
  10. I am so sorry to hear your Dads time is so short, this is not fair on him or you. As far as the car is concerned I do find it hard to believe that it is as bad as being termed an official write off as it could be that your local garage is loathe to get involved. A lot of electrical components can be perfectly fine once they are dried out so I am sure all is not lost. Modern cars are well protected against corrosion if they are dried out without delay, but we don't really know how long the problem has been going on. Are you or your Dad a member of the AA or RAC by any chance? If so it may be worth giving them a call and asking if they can help. As Aspman says there is the Ombudsman who may well take up your cause, so don't despair I'm sure someone will help but I appreciate this is not a time that you want to waste. I wish you both all the very best. Regards Rockinghorse
  11. Hi RagingRebecca Ist of all may I say how sorry I am to hear about your dads poor health. If that is not bad enough the last thing you need is this issue with Skoda. As you will have already seen, there are many posts on Briskoda about this issue as well as on the wider Internet, but Skoda will not accept that they have a manufacturing problem. My car was leaking badly which was found to be the windscreen which was replaced along with anything else which was water damaged, but luckily this was found during the initial 3 year warranty, but I still had quite a battle with the dealership in order to get the work done at no cost to me. It was because of this problem that I took out the 'All In' extended two year service/warranty plan after my 3 years expired. There is still some question as to wether Skoda would honour a repair if the water damage was to reoccur but they would certainly have a battle on their hands. Do I take it that your Dad didn't take out this plan? How long into the forth year did he notice the leak? Does his car have a sunroof? because this is a favorite failure point as the drain pipes can become blocked and /or become detatched and allow water to get into the boot. There are othe failure points such as the rear hatch leaking, either at the window seal or where the rear number plate light moulding is attached. You may well find that the water has now run into the whole car floor and has saturated some of the key electrical conrol boxes under the seats and carpet which is why the garage found the diagnostic problem. I had the same experience with Skoda head office - they are not interested and told me that the system was to deal with the local dealership. I was very forceful and after several weeks they finally agreed to look into the problem. I fear Skoda will never own up to this water ingress issue even though it is widespread. I think you need to contact either your local television station and/or Watchdog as you need some real exposure of the problem and it is amazing how that can push companies to do something. I hope you have some success with these problems as I know I no longer feel the same about my car since the water ingress. Best wishes Rockinghorse
  12. Don't expect Lexus level of service from Skoda. They are chaik and cheese!!! The Karoq was my second Skoda and bought from my local dealership which do not impress me at all. However my 1st was an Octavia which I purchased from Murray Skoda in Plymouth. Both that car and the dealership were brilliant in every way, so I guess its all about luck. The other problem I meant to mention was that I did have a few noises and rattles after they took my car apart, but it did bed in after a few months and seems okay now. Would I buy another Karoq - No!!! - deeply disappointed.
  13. There are a number of questions as to what is actually covered by the extended warranty. I take it, like me, you took out the 'All In' deal. I had a very long conversation with the Skoda Chat Line about it before I signed up and they didn't really know what was covered. Infact the 1st guy I spoke to said he would have to speak to his supervisor and get back to me. He never did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went on again and spoke to another guy who seemed to be more clued up but did say that it would be down to the dealership to make that decision. Best advice I can give is to be very polite but very firm. As a retired Electro/mechanical engineer I wasn't about to take any BS and I made that clear, which seemed to work. I told the service manager that I was expecting the water ingress to be covered by the 'All In' policy to wwhich he replied that he wasn't sure if it was covered. I advised that as this issue occurred during the standard warranty period it was a known issue and I would be insisting if it happened again. Your leak obviously occurred during your standard warranty period but it took a few weeks for you to realise the problem. Be strong and do not accept any costs. You could always offer to advise those other customers, who are sitting with salesmen and about to sign on the dotted line, about the poor quality of manufacture and service. I did that once with a faulty week old washing machine - my problem was dealt with straight away.
  14. Make sure you tell them that it is a known fault and has been documented on the Internet and Briskoda, It could be that it is your sunroof drain which is blocked on the passenger side but there have been more examples of the fault being a bad windscreen seal. Mine had to be replaced twice before it was cured but I still lack confidence as it seems main dealers are ill equiped to deal with these issues. Make sure that they get the equipment that can measure leaks electronically. My dealer had to borrow it from an Audi dealership in their group. I have learned since that this is a problem associated with numerous cars in the VAG group. (hence the equipment being available). Be prepared to lose your car for a few weeks if they cannot find the fault immediately. Also, on its return make sure to give your car a thorough inspection as there will likely be some damage. I had paint scraped off the drivers door shut , scratches on the centre console and 'B' pillar trim, dirty marks on the windscreen pillar trim and broken seat belt height adjusters. All these caused by inept dealership "technicians". They had to replace my headligning completely as it was damaged taking it out and the rest was so obviously caused by the tech removing and/or replacing the seats. I also had an impression in the leather of the steering wheel but I was able to coax it out by gentle rubbing with a leather conditioner. Be really thorough as I had a couple of scratches on trim which I did not notice until I was cleaning the interior a week later, but I was so mad that I insisted they replace the parts. They had little choice because they really did make a 'pigs ear' of the job. I didn't feel the same way about my car for a good year after this but you do eventually realise there are more important things in life. Good luck!!
  15. Sorry Guys I meant to post an update but after storms we lost Broadband until today. I got my car back last week and the replacement ECU seems to have sorted the DSG issues although it doesn't seem to have improved the economy. I did however get a completely different story from the Service guy than what I was told by the Customer Service manager about what went wrong in the process, but I guess I will just have to be thankful that I am back on the road. They could not find anything wrong with the Electric hatch although twenty minutes after leaving the dealership I opened the boot and it failed to latch again, but I couldn't get it to repeat so once again I will just have to keep an eye on it. One interesting thing I wanted to mention. You guys may remember that last year I suffered a bad water leak into the car which took several weeks to trace and fix. Well the loan car ( VW T Cross ) they gave me almost certainly had the same problem as every morning that we had a frost the inside of the windscreen froze up as badly as the outside requiring scraping to remove it. This happened three mornings in a row so when I collected my car I mentioned it to the service guy. He told me that it was the second of their fleet which had suffered the same way so it does look as though there is a problem either with the fitting of the windscreens or maybe the shape of the car frames do not match the curviture of the screens. I don't suppose it will ever be published but it is rather off putting that it seems to be a VAG issue. I remember some years ago when Ford had a problem with cracked windscreens which turned out to be a couple of spotwelds which were distorting the windscreen aperture. Anyway my door handles do not stick any more and my seatbelts now return properly which apparently was something to do with the 'B' pillar trims which were replaced. Now it's time for the 1st MOT - I wonder if it will pass?
  16. Wow!!!!!!! I am really concerned that the dealerships do not have the technical ability to correctly diagnose issues or fix them. I saw on one of the posts that a replacement part fitted under warranty does not have any warranty past that of the original. Thats a worry when the dealership has already fitted one faulty unit and does not give confidence for the future.
  17. Just a quick update on the ECU problem, After a two hour consultation between a Technician at the factory and my dealership technician it has been established that the replacement ECU is in fact faulty and will need to be reordered. The only problem is that they are on back order and likely to be between seven to ten days. Knowing my luck it will be longer than that. I did ask if my old ECU could be refitted whilst we wait for the new one but apparently that is not appropriate and there is nothing else that can be done. Seems once more I have to be patient.
  18. Thanks for everyones comments. I will update when I get my car back.
  19. Thanks for everyones comments
  20. I tried silicone spray and WD40 but could not get to the problem. Neither could the dealership which is why they had to dismantle. Just hope they havent damaged the door in the process.
  21. Thanks Roottoot I have already read up on the warranty Ts and Cs.
  22. I completely understand the problem with the tailgate as I myself could not replicate the non latching on the dealers forecourt, but I'm convinced the day after I take it home it will happen again. I have always checked to ensure nothing is fouling the tailgate ( just in case its my fault ) but there never is. It fails to latch at least twice per month so I was expecting a slight adjustment was required. As far as the tailgate opening whist I was driving is concerned, it has only happened once. I put some shopping bags in the boot and closed the tailgate but when I drove away, after just a few yards it suddenly opened completely. I have no idea if thats supposed to be impossible or not but the fact is it happened. My key was in the centre consol bin and I certainly didnt touch it or the door switch so who knows??? I am a very patient retired engineer so I do find these things very frustrating mainly because I have always prided myself on giving my customers excellent service. There does not seem to be any sense of urgency at my dealership and Skoda UK told me I had to deal with the dealership during the warranty period. I would never have got away with such a casual non interested approach in my profession. I guess in a couple of months I can fix it myself.
  23. I have just been called to advise that the dealership manager has spoken to the factory and is expecting a call back tomorrow. And so it goes on!! last time my car was in for warranty work they had it for eleven weeks so I suppose theres plenty of time yet, They just tell you what they think will do. Iv'e lost all faith now. I hope you aren't in Barnstaple too.
  24. The Customer Service Manager has finally called me and once again states that they are waiting for information from Skoda Technical. I have complained bitterly and he has now involved the Deaklership Manager who is taking up the matter with Skoda. I am not surprised as my car is always worse after its been with them. I was about to take out extended warranty but instead I think its time for a change, I keep putting it off but this has just cemented my feelings about this dealer. I have only done 12500 miles but they are the worst 12000 miles ever.
  25. I have contacted Skoda UK before when I had issues with my dealership but Im afraid they were a waste of space as well. They offered no help at all but just advised that I had to deal with the dealership.
