Automatic gearbox issues
They don't even get back to me when I call for an update. They tell me the new ECU needs to be programmed but they are waiting information from Technical. I do have a loan car ( VW T Cross ) which is very basic. This is the second time they have put me in a 1.0 car and I have to say I am wishing I had bought one, as the difference in economy is startling with plenty of power.

Electric tailgate doesn't work
I have had issues with my powered tailgate which often fails to latch. Dealership cannot find anything wrong even though at one time it opened whilst I was driving????????????????????

Sticking door handle
I have suffered the same issue with my nearside rear door handle which is rarely used. I tried self lubrication with no success and took it to the dealership who assure me they had to dismantle it in order to effect a repair. When I finally get my car back ( DSG issues ) I will have to check my car carefully as they have damaged it in the past. It looks as if this is a common issue as I have only just passed 12000 miles.

Automatic gearbox issues
I recently took my Karoq into my local dealership because there were a few issues I wanted sorted before my three year warranty ran out. The main issue was that my DSG automatic gearbox had been changing driving mode by itself, mainly changing to Sport mode whilst driving in Drive, usually after braking. On one occasion it changed to manual mode after stopping to allow another car to come through a tight space. I didn't realise until it failed to change up and looking at the dash realise it was in Manual mode. The dealership found that when they plugged my car into the diagnostic computer that there were a number of fault codes and it stated that the ECU needed to be replaced. This was ordered and two days later after fitting my car then had even more fault codes so the dealership had to contact the Technical Dept. Two weeks later I am still being fobbed off with stories that they are still waiting for Technical to get back to them. It would seem to me that warranty work takes second place to paid repairwork. Has anyone else in the Skoda community had similar issues please?

Automatic gearbox issues
Thanks RootToot I will indeed but I have to say that when I contacted Skoda UK Customer Services about the problems I had with the leak and repairs they were not interested and said I had to deal with the dealership. Phil-E - I have driven thousands of miles all over the country and Europe in several different automatic cars ( mainly VAG but a couple of BMWs too ) and have never experienced anything like this before so I do think it is as a result of a naff update. In the 2 1/2 years I have had this car it has been in for four system updates and each time the car has been worse afterwards. I dont think you would get this with Japanese. At the sme time before this we had an Octavia which was absolutely faultless and I really wish I had never changed.

Automatic gearbox issues
My car had been in the dealership for over two months while they tried to sort out the water leak which turned out to be the windscreen. In the process they damaged my car in a number of areas resulting in my needing a new head lining, new carpets and underlay/insulation, a new centre console and inner sill covers where they had scraped and scratched everything putting the seats back. Added to this they damaged the drivers side sill which had to be repaired and resprayed. I was furious!!! My car has only done just under 10k miles and was due the second service so I insisted as some compensation they carry out a full service which was oil and filter, pollen filter, air filter and spark plugs and they carried out the updates at that time. I have been so disappointed with the dealership that I really don't feel like going back there. Since the car was taken apart I have got so many rattles in various places it just doesn't feel like the car I purchased. They had to take the whole dash out to investigate the leak and its clear local mechanics do not have the skills for this sort of work.

Automatic gearbox issues
Thanks Kenny R Hi e-Roottoot - My car had a major service a few weeks ago and all softwere updates were carried out including the DSG one. As always though whenever I get the car back its always worse than when I took it in. I didn't have an issue with the auto before but it seems that I do now. The engine seems noisier since the service and does less MPG which is classic i've found but I have too much going on at present to be able to get it sorted. I will try the reset and see if I can sort it myself. Thanks everyone.

Kenny - I was in normal Drive mode and yes it did kick down but I didn't expect it to go down four gears. Also the engine wascreaming and woud not change back up. Smipx - How do you turn on the ignition without starting the engine with a push button start???? I would like to try the DSG reset but cannot understand the prcedure.

Automatic gearbox issues
I have recently had some sporadic problems with my auto box and wondered if anyone has had the same. Whilst driving on a 60mph road at 40 mph I was approaching a dual carriageway so pressed the accelerator to pass the van in front and at first nothing happened. The gearbox stayed in sixth gear and was very sluggish getting to 50 mph. The car behind me was flashing for me to get a move on so I pressed the accelerator further when all of a sudden the gearbox changed down to second gear and the engine was reving its head off but did not change up. I had to pull into the nearside lane and slow down to see if it would change which it did but changed back up to sixth gear and was sluggish again. I must add that this dual carriage way was up hill so when I reached the apex and went down the other side the car then behaved normally. I carried on my journey which was over 200 miles and the car continued to drive fine. Two weeks later it did the same thing again on a different road and since this I have found that the gearbox will change at the wrong time or will not change up quickly enough resulting in excess revs for no apparent reason. I cant get it booked in for a few weeks and I have to make the same 230 mile journey again for a funeral so am not best pleased. Has anyone else had this problem? The car had a major service 400 miles ago and has not felt right since but as I dont drive very often it is difficult to pin point things.

Sound deadening
Hi Berisford Yeah Iv'e tried that and super thick carpet underfelt but it made no difference. I should have bought the 1.0 ltr as I found it mauch nicer than my 1.5.
-
Sound deadening
I am also very disappointed with the noise levels in my 1.5 SEL. Road noise is terrible on anything but the smoothest of Tarmac and then the car is transformed. With the awful state of our roads these days I find my car very gittery and excruciatingly noisy over potholes. I also think the car is worse since the work my dealer did to solve the water ingress problem and wonder if they put everything back right. They were supposed to fit new underlay/ insulation and carpets but I havent taken it apart to see if have. They did damage a lot of trim and I have found several things not put back right so it could be a factor. While my car was away for weeks being fixed I was given a 1.0 SE which was much quieter and smoother with hardly any road noise at all which may be down to the 17" wheels and Michelin tyres, but I also think the solid rear shelf helps to block out noise from the boot area whereas my mesh shelf obviously does not. I know from so many other posts on the NET that the 1.5 engine can vary sooo much with some being very quiet and smooth with others rather loud and noisy - mine is he later but the dealer still insists its fine. I do not enjoy long journeys in my car because of the noise and the other day I was in my daughters 13yr old 115k miles diesel Qashqai and was shocked how quiet it was compared to my car with only 9k on the clock. I've been thneatening to change mine for the last year but Covid has pushed everything back.

Excessive condensation
I would have the dealershi[p check this out thoroughly as it is nonsence that people say it because its been sitting around and getting damp. I had the same problem with mine and could not find any water inside the car, but the dealership took the carpets out and found that the underlay/insulation was very wet. Six weeks later they found the leak as the seal had gone on the windscreen. When it rained heavily it would pour in behind the front scuttle, out of view with all the carpets in. They replaced all my carpets and insulation, headlining and several bits of trim. The car seems akoy now but we havent had heavy rain since so I'm just crossing my fingers. I think you will find this is getting to be a common fault on the Karoq.

Water Ingress - Passenger footwell
Hi Guys I have just got my car back which has been with my dealership since 30th November 2020. They advised me just before Christmas that they had found the leak which was the seal on the windscreen and they had replaced it but there were some parts required which were out of stock and would probably not arrive from Germany until the new year, as apart from low stocks there was the issue at the docks and things just weren't getting through. Both Brexit and Covid had now taken over and the timescale which was originally quoted was now not possible. The parts required were a full set of carpets with underlay, a headlining and various pieces of trim. I received a call mid January to say that the car would be ready by Thursday but as the weather was so appalling I advised I would collect on Friday morning. Next day I received a call to advise that the storm we had over night had brought down branches and damaged three cars in their carpark, one being mine and the new windscreen had a crack in it and would need to be replaced. The following week I got the call to say that it was ready to collect, but on arrival I found that they had damaged the car during the work and had scratched the drivers door sill and gouged the centre console obviously when they put the seat back in. I also found that the windscreen fitter had not put the clips back holding the scuttle trim which was flapping and there were grubby hand prints on various parts of the trim. I was not best pleased but I give the customer service manager his due, he did not hesitate to promise that it would all be fixed and booked the car in the following week. I have to say that I collected it on Monday and it was like a new car as they had even polished it. Now not wishing to be pessimistic but we have not had heavy rain this week so I have no idea if this work has cured the leak. Other people have had the same work done and days later were just as wet inside as before. Fingers crossed!!!!!!! Now I would like to offer my two penith to anyone who is about to buy a new Karoq as this experience has not been much fun but I have learned a lot along the way. We had and 2014 Octavia 1.2 before which we loved but due to having two knee replacements I was finding it difficult to get in and out of which is why we looked at the Karoq. Both my wife and I found it to be instantly comfortable and in fact better than the VW Tiguan and decided to purchase. I feel that I made a bit of a mistake when speccing the car as I turned down the 1.0 TSI model being sure that it was not powerful enough for such a heavy car and as they had a 1.5 SEL DSG in stock with 'Virtual dashboard', electric tailgate and various other extras which someone else had ordered but then cancelled it meant that I would not have to wait for my car to be built. Now I have not been a fan of the 1. 5 TSI engine in my car as I find it a little noisy and harsh particularly when pulling away from cold, tends to use more oil than I would like and is not partcularly economical even though I am a gentle driver, but I have learnt that this engine varies a lot and when you get a good one they are very good. As I have been without my car since 30th of November I have had several courtesy cars during that time. The 1st was a new 1.5 TSI Golf with only a couple of hundred miles on the clock and the engine in that car was night and day different to mine. I did not like that car though as I struggled to get in and out so they replaced it with a Karoq 1.0 TSI manual just before Christmas - What a revelation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could not believe how smooth this little engine was and to be honest I struggled to tell the difference when driving, as it had plenty of acceleration, but the huge difference was the economy -58 mpg WOW!!! I took it on a 250 mile round trip to deliver Christmas presents ( socially distanced ) and was amazed how good it was on the motorway it had plenty of power and would overtake just as easily as my 1.5. The only time I noticed a small difference was on a very long hill in Devon where I did need to change down to 5th keep the speed up to 60 mph. I would definitely recommend this 1.0 TSI engine if you don't do thousands of miles and drive mainly in town - it's a cracker!!! Fast forward to when I discovered that my car had been damaged and they then gave me a 1.5TSI Octavia as they didn't have a Karoq. This was a beautiful top of the range car and again the engine was like the Golf in that it was smooth, quiet and very punchy. I can only think that they have updated this unit and sorted some of the issues with the earlier ones, The only thing was once again I found it difficult to get in and out so although I have been disappointed with my Karoq, it was nice to get it back and realise that it is comfortable, Other things I have discovered though is that I prefer the suspension on the Octavia as it hardly notices the rough roads around my village whereas the Karoq is very hard ( probably to stop it rolling on the corners ) which makes it very noisy over the bumps in comparison and can be skittish on rough surfaces. When I learned how much I had lost over the not quite two years I have had the Karoq it has made me rethink getting rid of it. At the moment we are not going anywhere and it's just not worth throwing more money at cars to just sit there losing value. I still prefer the interior of the Karoq to any other SUV on the market so for now it will probably stay. Sorry to drone on but I hope my experiences over the last ten weeks may help someone to make up their minds what they really want or need. It shows you really need to have a test drive for longer than just round the block and be very sure what you are buying, I will come back again if I still have a leak!!!!!!!!!!! Regards David

Water Ingress - Passenger footwell
Hi Scot5 I hear what you say but from all the water ingress faults on the internet it would seem that Skoda have a real problem which would make this a different situation from the norm. In fact it would seem to be a VAG problem as there are just as many VWs and Audis which are suffering water ingress. Maybe they should look at the reason and cure the problem before it becomes a repair. Because of COVID I didnt use my car much last year and the way things are going I wont do many miles this year. The fact remains that they have a real problem as water is getting in even though my car has been stationary on level ground for months. I know it wont be easy to reject, it never has been but the fact are there and although the repairs are covered by warranty you cannot tell what the effects of trapped water is doing to the cars fabric until maybe its too late. I will keep you all posted and hope others will too.

Like you I am not confident that my dealership has repaired the leak. They were supposedly trying to find the source of the leak for three weeks then suddenly decided it was the windscreen. Three days later they told me they had replaced the screen and all was well but they had to order a new headlining which was unfortunately on back order so they would not be able to put the car back together until after Christmas. I heard absolutely nothing from them so I called them yesterday and miraculously they advised that the headling should be in by Thursday this week and they would try to get the car back to me this week. My biggest worry is that they get it all back together to look like new as I had only done 7700 miles in 21 months so the car was like new. If it does not come up to scratch I will have to look at rejecting the car. Skoda clearly have manufacturing issues as the internet bears out there have been many screen problems as well as seal problems and those leaks which they have been unable to find. I'm not sure I would want the same model again and may have to look elsewhere. Best of luck with your car!!

Water Ingress - Passenger footwell
Looks like your tailgate is filling up with water and pouring out of the inside trim when it lifts up.It is either the rear windscreen which has popped its seal or possibly the rear windscreen wiper - both are comon problems with the Karoq but Skoda still deny they have a problem. I don't know how you stand with trying to return your car I have the same problem as I bought mine outright and have water ingress in the front footwell. My car has been with the dealership for seven weeks but they say I might get it back next week. My issue was apparently the front windscreen which had popped it's seal. They have replaced the windscreen but have been waiting for a new headlining and other parts to put the car back together. I know we had Christmas in between but it really is not good service and they clearly have issues with their production line if the windscreen are not being fitted properly. I have little confidence and would be kicking up merry hell if it wasn't for Covid .

Hi K08wilson They just said they suspect the windscreen. Then that they have had a few where the seal between glass and frame has popped. I think that's Skoda speak for 'we don't really know but we'll try it and find out. I advised that there were other owners who had replacement windscreens only to find later that they still had a leak. I was asked not to be pessimistic and give them a chance, but they would not give the car back until they had fixed the problem. I will do like you and give them this chance but I'm not confident.

No I'm in Devon but it seems to be a Skoda issue. I emailed Skoda UK on their website and asked for their help. Nothing I did a live chat this morning and they had no record of my email. Convenient. I find they are all over you while you are considering a purchase but once they have your money you are forgotten. I suffered a poor hand over and poor customer service ever since.

Water Ingress - Passenger footwell
Latest update. Once more I had to call my dealership because they never call me back. They have now decided that they do think it is the windscreen and will now have to order one. I did say that this is where we were a week ago but they just said it takes time to sort this sort of problem. Wouldn't it be better to build the cars better in the 1st place????????????????? I will let you know how it all pans out but I do really wish I had never bought this car. I wish other owners would update the website about any progress they are having as it all seems to have gone quiet!!

Water Ingress - Passenger footwell
Hi Before the Karoq I had a 1.2 TSI Octavia which was so smooth and had all the power I needed. It never used any oil between changes and the economy was brilliant. When we chose the Karoq to make life easier for both of us getting in and out I was very disappointed that the 1.5 was far less smooth than the Octavia ( which had a lot of miles on the clock ) and was very noisy in comparison. It used about 2 litres in the 1st 4000 miles and has used a litre and a half in the next 3700 miles. The economy is very poor with the best I have seen being 42MPG on a long run. The dealer just says that the 1.5 is a bit noisier than some engines but it checks out as ok on their computer. It is the most disappointing car I have owned and I have had a lot. None of my previous cars have ever leaked!!!! not even my 1st car which was a1961 Wolseley 1500. You do not expect this sort of problem in a modern car.

Water Ingress - Passenger footwell
Hi The 1st week they gave me a loan Golf 1.5 TSI which was totally unsuitable as I have had two knee replacements which is the reason I purchased the Karoq in the 1st place. My wife also has issues which made getting in and out of the Golf very difficult but it was all they had. When they failed to fix my car after the 1st week I complained that I could not deal with the Golf much longer and they found me a 2019 Karoq 1.00 ltr basic model which was so much better although it did not have a reversing camera which was a bit disconcerting as I kept waiting for the camera to come on which or course it didn't and caused a couple of issues. The one thing which the golf did clarify was that my 1.5 TSI engine is not a good one even though the dealership told me it was fine. Compared to the Golf my engine is as rough as a bears as the Golf was far far smoother. In fact I am thinking I made a mistake buying the 1.5 as the 1.0 engine in the loan Karoq is as smooth as silk and feels much nippier than mine. I thought the 1.0 ltr would be underpowered but that is not the case. It is probably far more economical than mine as well. Your dealership should have given you a like for like courtesy car. Best of luck with the water leak I hope we both get some better service in the not too distant future. Merry Christmas.

Hi K08 wilson I have to ask , does your Karoq have the panoramic roof?? if so I believe from reading lots of threads on the internet that it is a known problem with pans which has carried over from the same unit used in Yetis and even Superbs. It would seem that they are not sealed into the roof very well. If you don't have a pan then it's anyones guess. I still think it's a poor sealing job on the bulkhead/scuttle on my car but I only have water in the front. As you have both front and rear, I would suspect the roof. It is clear though that dealerships do not have the skills to identify problems of this type so should be calling in the manufacturers for assistance. I am more concerned about the damage water might be doing to the unseen fabric of the car. I had been hoping to keep this car for some time as I am retired but what with this and other issues I seriously doubt it. If Covid had not taken over our lives my Karoq would have been gone before now. I don't know how you or I stand if we want to return the cars. I purchased mine outright so don't have the same clout that you have.

Water Ingress - Passenger footwell
Dealership has now had my car two and a half weeks and they are no closer to finding the leak. They have managed to replicate the leak by playing a hose on it for an extended period and found that after a while it suddenly pours into the footwell. Now common sense tells me that water is gathering somewhere as it is failing to drain by normal means and then once it reaches a certain level it overflows through some sort of hole or aperture into the car. I would have thought the 1st place to look is inside the scuttle under the plastic trim around the wipers but they so far haven't removed that. I am losing confidence with their ability to sort this problem and have told them I am very close to returning the car. I have suggested they try to get hold of the ultrasonics equipment but I can tell they aren't keen to pursue that. If anyone else has any ideas I would very much appreciate their help.

Heavy condensation on inside of windows
Hi Guys Just a quick update. Skoda just called to say that my car will be a while yet as they are not sure where the leak is. No surprise there !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They don't want to take the screen out until they are absolutely sure it is the problem as warranty won't pay them for it if it turns out to be something else.

Heavy condensation on inside of windows
I have to say that I did 22 mile round trip in the Golf courtesy car yesterday and that engine is like chalk and cheese compared to mine. The suspension is soooo much better than the Karoq but I wouldn't have another Golf after the Karoq cos they seem so claustrophobic. The windscreen is so raked back that I always bang my head when getting in.The other thing I didn't like was all the new controls which are touch rather than switches. They are not so easy to operate while driving but I suppose it's the way all cars will go eventually. Still no idea when I will get my car back but fingers crossed it will be this week.
