  1. Interesting opinion, Is that the general consensus from mk3 owners or just you? The EA111 1.4tsi is good in concept, but it was poorly thought out. Depending on which engine code it is, some of the twincharged engines have a tendency to blow pistons (VAG blamed it on piston rings) There were also numerous timing chain issues and there have been issues with the supercharger not engaging properly from what I know. Its not to say there aren't good versions of the engine, but it's just a bit hit and miss, mostly miss if its the CAVE engine variant. Its a bit like with the 2.0 diesel used in the 2006 Audi A3, the BKD engine is generally quite unreliable, vs the BMN which is much more reliable.
  2. In theory you should be able to swap any engine from a car with a PQ26 chassis or possibly even the MQB chassis. The MK3 Fabia uses the PQ26 chassis which is just an updated version of the PQ25 with some extra MQB bits which means VAG can share some of the ea211 engines between the PQ26 and MQB platforms. So you could potentially swap in the 2.0 EA888 Gen 3 from a golf gti/octavia vrs/seat leon. You could also swap the EA888 1.8 Polo GTI (6C) engine into the Fabia as both cars are built on the same PQ26 chassis (the older polo gti 6R is built on the pq25 chassis and shares the mediocre twin charged EA111 1.4tsi with the mk2 fabia vrs, i assume the engine mounts are slightly different) Edit: Just realized you meant the turbo, not the whole engine
  3. That is mental, makes me wonder what the 1.2tsi is capable of with uprated internals and the hybrid 1.4 turbo.... How much did you pay ADE for the tuning?
  4. If you're curious and don't know what this intake sounds like, here you go
  5. Yeah, the Forge one doesn't look like it gets much airflow, and considering the Forge intake costs £200, this is probably much better for reducing heat soak as its positioned at the front of the engine and has a metal heat shield.
  6. I've seen that kit a few times and looked into it myself, maybe in a few years if i have some disposable income to blow..... Regarding pricing for the r5 widebody kit, I have emailed them previously and had some quotes: There are three options for the type of material the kit is made from: 1. Polyester resin with fiber €1900 2. Epoxy resin finish in black €2200 3. Epoxy resin finish in black, reinforced with carbon\kevlar €2500 (Prices without vat + shipping) I also asked about just the spoiler out of curiosity which is €400 without VAT and shipping, but I'm not sure which material that is made from. If you really want to splurge your life savings, you can also buy an R5 rally prepared shell from them, though i have no idea how much that costs.
  7. Fitted this MST intake and silicon hose to replace the stock intake and delete the intake muffler yesterday. Took it for a test run along snake pass today, and it sounds a lot better than stock. Its loudest when the engine is under load between 1-3k rpm when the turbo is spooling, and when taking your foot off the accelerator in the lower rev range you can hear a subtle hiss from the turbo spooling down. However, one of the most noticeable sounds now is the turbo whistling when accelerating.
  8. Sorry for the late reply, the bulbs I went for in both the dipped beam projectors and the high beams are these H7 LEDs off Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07TV41S91 They are a bit of a struggle to fit into the headlight housing due to the fan and heatsink (you can hear a faint buzzing from the fan when the lights are on and the engine is off) but they will just about fit with the right angle and some persuasion. One thing to note is the metal clip to hold the LEDs in place will not fit on these, so the best option is to buy some replacement clips specifically for fitting LEDs here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B073P1PRJH I also swapped my front, side and rear indicators out for LED ones. For the side indicators in the mirrors, is this wy5w bulb from Osram: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00E3R8OQI For the front indicators, I bought these with the wy21w connector: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07BHQLW44 For the rear indicators, I bought the same bulbs as the front, but with the py21w connector: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07BHPD8RY With the front and rear indicators I purchased, they are canbus compatible and don't hyperblink on my car. Word of warning though, the front and rear indicators are incredibly bright, to the point they are blinding at night - to mitigate this issue I used some 30% window tint (blocks out 70% light) that I had lying around and stuck it round the bulb which has resolved that issue. I have also fitted rear number plate LEDs and replaced the rear bulbs with LEDs, however these were not canbus so I have plenty of light warnings on the infotainment display, the fix to this is finding replacement bulbs or wiring in some resistor packs, I'll upddate when I have made a decision on that. I will send a couple of pictures and videos to show how the lights look at night in the next hour or so, but daytime pictures will have to wait.
  9. I've swapped my front lights to LEDs. Assuming you have the projector headlight units with H7 bulbs, there are two rubber covers on the back of the unit that just slide off. The bulbs need turning anticlockwise I think to remove. If you're just replacing the bulb with a standard one, just take the bulb off the metal clip attached to the plug. If you're switching to LED, you will need a metal adapter to attach to the led bulb and you can just plug the other end of the led bulb into the h7 plug normally. For the indicators, there is a rectangular piece of plastic it is attached to with a round hole at the end to pull out the indicator bulb out. If you need pictures, i may be able to do so in a bit when I get back home.
  10. Ayy, nice to see more people with yellow fogs
  11. I'm interested to see what's happened to your gearbox, you're still on the stock 90bhp right? I've never had an issue with my gearbox, though I have had some clutch slip when doing a hard pull. As far as I'm aware, its still on the original gearbox, had 64k miles on the clock when I bought it and now has 86k after a year. However I do have the 6 speed instead of the 5 speed so I'm curious if the 6 speed has a higher build quality or better parts.
  12. Easiest way to clear the error if you dont have an OBD reader such as OBD11 or VCDS is to unplug the battery for a few minutes which will reset the ECU. If the airbag light comes back on, you probably have an active error still ongoing and you'll need to have a garage look into it for you.
  13. I would assume that Skoda will use the MQB A0 platform when they release the MK4 Fabia. The MK3 Fabia was released in 2015 on the PQ25 platform which is almost identical to the PQ24 platform used by the polo which was released in 2009, so it makes more sense for Skoda/VAG to continue using this platform until the next generation is released in a few years.
  14. If you take a closer look at that photo, you can see there is a cut out in the bumper for the genuine tow bars. This cut out is only on vehicles which were specified with a tow bar from the dealer and will probably come with a cover to hide the cutout when the tow bar is detached. Unfortunately I haven't seen any tow bars which clear the bumper without a need for a cutout on Ebay so I'm not 100% sure
  15. The standard gearbox on the Fabia 1.2 is the MQ200, im guessing with the remap you're making close to 250nm of torque? If so, look into an MQ250 or MQ300. For these gearboxes, they should theoretically fit fine, however if not, you may need to remove the bell housing from your current gearbox and attach it to your new gearbox.
  16. I'm not sure what that sound might be, but you're more likely to find help if this has its own thread rather than getting lost in the modification thread.
  17. Lunch hour (maybe 2 hours 😅) well spent. Rear lights are now tinted and looking pretty sweet. The light clusters have a 90% tint over the clear section, followed with a fly-eye style tint over the whole cluster. Then I also added a 35% film onto the third break light.
  18. See pages 158 - 174 of the General body repairs (exterior) workshop manual. These pages have instructions and diagrams for installing the Monte Carlo trim pieces. https://cardiagn.com/themencode-pdf-viewer-sc/?tnc_pvfw=ZmlsZT1odHRwczovL2Nkbi5jYXJkaWFnbi5jb20vUERGLzAvU2tvZGEvRmFiaWEvTUszL1NNXzIxLnBkZiZzZXR0aW5ncz0xMTExMDAxMTEwMTEwMTExMCZsYW5nPWVuLVVT#page=&zoom=auto&pagemode=none
  19. Is there an SD card slot hidden on the side of the glovebox? That's where mine is hidden, though I don't have navigation enabled.
  20. As tempted as I am by the camber plate, the additional £200 over the ST XA coilovers is just a bit too steep, and I dont track the car enough to need extra negative camber. Unfortunately there isn't much left of my sticker after it was taken off to repair the floor from being rear ended in January, though i have added it below. I do believe the gearboxes used in the Fabia is the MQ200 (DQ200 for DSG models), rated to a maximum of 200NM of torque, though some sources say it's 250NM.
  21. For removing the backrest for the rear bench seats, see the workshop manual section below:
  22. Alternatively, the mid option is the KW ST XA (£765) which has the added benefit of adjustable dampers, but doesn't include a camber plate.
  23. Regarding coilovers, I'm now also looking at the ST XTA coilovers which have an adjustable camber plate and damper rebound adjust-ability. Question is, what to choose.... KW ST X (£570) KW ST XTA (£960)
  24. Yeah, just found them. That's a really good price too! Once I have ordered some shortened 13" plates and I've been paid, I'll probably bite the bullet and get the ST X coilovers. I'm finally on modified insurance so let the modding commence!
  25. The KW ST X coilovers are quite tempting. They're £120 cheaper than the Bilstein B14s and have a lot more height adjustability to play around with which is a must for me.
