Thank you for your thoughts. I have to agree. The very day after the issue returned it disappeared; the crunching/resistance went, the rattle on tick-over in neutral still there, stopping as soon as you press the pedal down. I have found in the past that when the sticking occurs I can slip the clutch a little and all clears, ie that rust has been cleared off the friction surfaces etc. Also though, if I find the box sticking, I simply press the pedal down and select 2nd (or 3rd or 4th etc) and then immediately into a nice smooth action to 1st. The problem does not happen again for some time. Same action for reverse, pedal down, select 3rd or 4th and it slides to revers smooth and quiet. Since my last post it has happened once. It is hard to notice a sequence here, it is not time dependent, seems low/high temp has no effect, ie summer/winter. Pity really, the noisey box and the sticking detracts from a good efficient car.

The day after my post and the car's box is behaving perfectly...and I've done nothing. Did so yesterday too despite the colder overnight temperature (car sleeps outside). Service is due in 2 months time, so will have the gearbox oil changed too.

Been on here a few times about the wife's Citigo, 66 plate Monte Carlo and 23K miles, and gently driven, regularly 60 mpg. The 'sticky clutch' and gearbox rattle in neutral/changing gear is back. Pressing the clutch pedal down stops the rattle to silence. The sticky clutch seems to come and go which seems strange. Last few days standing still came to use it for Sainsburys errands and the box is stiff to go into 1st. Other gears OK. Reverse will slightly crunch whilst engaging. It's done this many times in the last 3 years, but the reluctance to 1st is far worse yesterday/today. Can't believe it could be synchro on 1st gear, such low miles and such gentle use. To add injury, the fan unit under the dash has failed again, about 6 months since fitting a new one (all but 4th fan speeds dead). New one with 5 year warrantee on its way. Getting close to selling up, but esp worried about the clutch/box. Changing either is a bad thought, but any ideas please?

Great feed-back, thank you all. I was reversing at the time the dash changed! Just might explain the 'operator error' involved... As to the wind noise: will try the vent first. I tend to move them directionally when hoovering the car but have moved the 'velocity' knob recently to remove some mist inside. Will take a look.

Thank you both. Will check the seals, no sunroof on my car. As to the display, I am now getting used to it. The BIG speedo reading is very good and the general arrangement has all the right data for normal driving. The tacho is sort of redundant in these DSG cars maybe, but I'm old enough to watch the revs, but have no control over them! Too Old Skhool. I think I'll leave the dash. wonder why the car changed the format by itself? Just modern cars and too complicated?

Car has done 15K miles. 1 Driver's side only: There is a perceptible wind noise whistle ar 49/56 mph, sound like you are walking on a coastal path with some light wind blowing, so the 'whistle' is not consistent. Checked the seals, all ok for chaffing etc, the window is fully closed. Wing mirror seems secure, have checked seals on rear door and window. Does NOT always do it! Any thoughts or experiences please? 2 Setting up the info on the Dash. Last week the dash layout changed from classic to something else, just like that, on it's own. Managed to reset to Classic with tacho in the centre, digital speedo number good and large (nice). Left side shows fuels from start-up, right side tank level. Under these are to the left side kW reading and to the right side oil temperature (103 deg C) I can find a way to delete the last two features, the oil temp is switched OFF on the info menu, but stays on the dash display. The kW feature I can't find anywhere (yet) Not a big deal but irritating. Before the car change the dash layout these were not on the dash display, the speedo and tacho were separate too. Can't get that layout back though the 'Classic' layout shows selected, but does not arrive on the dash display. Bit tiresome.

Yes, that is correct. Or at lest the dipstick is there, but I have not looked to see if a dash measurement is there via the infotainment, as I believe a dip stick! I no not know if the engine is an EA888. Car was registered in late Nov 2023, but 280 bhp, Sport Line Plus Estate 4x4. S-A

Sorry, false alarm. Found the info in the on-line Manual and the sticker on the front of the engine bay. SAE 0W-30 or VW 505-00 or 507-00 Could do with knowing what brand of oil is used though please. Interesting it states to check the level engine off but hot. Obviously suits the maintenance work in the dealer (?) Your post just beat mine! I checked the oil as usual weekly (and top up screen wash etc) but engine COLD. With hot oil I would expect the level on the stick to be just at Max. I know over max is wrong, but just want to be sure I have it correct. I have a Porsche Boxster (slower than the Skoda...) and that has to be 1/2 level to min/max and hot and engine @ tick-over, (no dip stick, just dash computer read-out, nasty). Too full and smoke everywhere. Really really nasty! Thank you for your post. Has answered all my questions in one go.

During my weekly oil check with the dipstick, the level is 1/2 way between min and max. It was Skoda serviced 4K miles ago @10K miles, now at 14K miles. The car is the high performance 2 litre petrol engine 4x4 Sport Line. Lovely car. Question 1 Is this level correct or should I fill to 'Max'? Question 2 What grade oil is used for these cars and what brand would be used by the Skoda main dealer? I would like to match the oil inside the engine if I do have to top it up. Thank you for all the replies. There is just too much to sift through for me. Been through the manual (the one on here) and it is not comprehensive. Could not find anything about actually switching off the Sat Nav when finished, but Ok I'm sure I probably missed something or other. Talking to the car is a try for later, very rarely use Sat Nav. (ie once in 8 months). The prob with the sat nav was when the Navigation was finished the map would remain on the dash central area which I found irritating. I've been through pressing button A on the RHS of the wheel to go left/right on the classic and other dash layouts and the status areas but could not spot the total miles when scrolling. Will take a look as you instruct tomorrow. It will be interesting to get a better grasp of the controls, but as the car now stands it all looks ok, so will leave well alone. My old 14 plate Superb Tour du France was delightfully simple, had all the essential info and left me needing nothing more. Sometimes less is more (for me). You just pressed a button and the job was done. Thank you all again.

Now sorted! The car's total mileage is only shown when you turn the engine off, the dash goes blank and the miles are displayed at the bottom right of the dash. I think I now have the dash and info as I want it.. I think.

Sorry for the delay in my reply. I tried what you have shown, but the wheel on my UK car is different on those buttons, HOWEVER, I have pressed every button everywhere and the Sat Nav map in the dash cluster went! No idea in the end what I did. Another 'issue' raised it's head about 5 days ago (before the sat nav issue) and that was a message on the dash that the car was due an oil change in "26 days". The days counted down. by the day. I called my local Skoda dealer's Service Dept yesterday and they said that was strange. Took it in today and they cleared the message. The car was serviced by the Skoda Dealer we bought the car from last November @ 9981 miles, it is now 13,109. While there I told them about the Sat Nav issue and they looked at that and said all was well. However, the dash will not display the total miles the car has travelled, ie 13,000, that has disappeared off the dash display! Surely that info should never disappear? Off to the Manal for a read.....

Used the sat nav for the first time today. Reached the destination perfectly. HOWEVER: I cannot get rid of the route display that now shows permanently in the dash cluster. The dash is set to 'Classic' so the route map shows between the tacho and the speedo. I have looked at the manual and cannot see how to simply STOP the sat nav and remove the route graphics off the dash. I expect the dash to clear when you stop the route directions. Driving me mad. Please can someone tell me how to clear it all? Thank you.

Thank you all for your replies. It is the only really irritating parts of this great little car, so we shift gear from 1st to start, revs to 3rd, rev to 5th cutting out those gearbox rattles. Strange that VW released these cars with this fault? (and have never fixed the problem). Other irritants: The clip-on info screen keeps on dropping out and needs a good sharp tap to wake(connect) it up for the info such as mpg etc. The clonking of the rear suspension over undulating harsh road surfaces. Poor hill climbig performance... Rest is great!

Thank you for your reply (at least I got one!). Have come to the same conclusion, just drive it and remember it is a budget car. Had a Toyota iQ before which was miles up the quality ladder, but not crash proof...
