  1. I didn't do this and just drove on - ended up with a broken box and taking the centre out of the clutch plate !! I could have saved myself 2 weeks and about €1000 !
  2. That would be an absolute travesty if all that stuff got dumped - not now but maybe in 5 years time when spares get scarce To document, list and advertise all that stuff is no mean feat - then to sell and p+p it all is very time consuming The Fabia Mk1 is now at the stage where there is a big cull rate - even moderate repair is becoming uneconomic and this treasure trove could well be the saviour ! If you and a bunch of friends got together to help this chap out you would be doing a great service I saw this exact scenario happen 10 years ago with a fella who broke a load of Porsche 924/944s and lost his storage ! Ended up all the parts were just dumped and now it's left that all them parts are 5 times the price and worse condition! I just hope this dosen t happen here !
  3. Ohhh Now- that is a treasure trove and a half ! I'd be happy to root around in there for hours 🤣 Would he post a few small bits if I asked nicely ??
  4. Keep Keep Keep ! Or maybe I wasn't clear enough Keep You have minded that car so well and somebody else will only get the benefit What can you replace it with ? Sommit modern and boring ! If you keep her in the manner she is accustomed to then for sure she will last at least another 15 years and 200k miles !
  5. If you got a 2.0 petrol mk1 that was an MOT failure and for breaking - that's a good start ! Even a mk4 Golf GTi that is for breaking - Putting cams and upgrading a 1.4 is a money pit and very little gain - Make sure the donor car is a runner and work from there ! If you are relying on the car as a daily driver bear this in mind as to do this sort of conversion will take a right few weeks ! Try and think of all the pitfalls and good luck !!
  6. Good bit of advice there - Obviously the speed sensor wasnt reading at times due to the play in the bearing ! Thanks for the heads up
  7. Hi All Ive just passed one year with my Fabia vRS. A bit of background on my car. We moved from the town to the country and well I needed a car. I was on my wifes insurance for her Civic for years. This didnt matter one sod as I had to start from ground zero.. All I wanted was a s**tbox to take me to work and back.. A diesel. I didnt want repayments or any of that malark and if it lay down Id just get another ball of dung... I thought a Mk5 TDi Golf would fit nicely but My insurance for a Mk5 06 Golf was astonomical .. So I looked at a Nissan Tiida which was just grim - Just horrble... Beggars cant be choosers but even a beggar would cringe ... I know they are reliable ..... and I need reliable as I cover about 110km a day ...!! I saw a video with some lad with a heavily modded MK1 vRS and he said they were well worth it - I checked my insurance out and it was €1256 which was worth it ... or €1178 for a diesel Tiida. I came across mine by pure chance - She was a small bit modified which is dodgey but she seemed well minded so I just took a chance !!! It takes me back 25 years driving it and every time I just smile. Im going to say it now my Fabia exceeds all expections I had.... We live over narrow roads and the Fabia is just the right size - I often seen the late John Mullholland take many a so called fast car in the rallies in the late 00's ... I also go on the motorway and the car is just planted stable and totally unstressed. Giving me 50 mpg+ . No real smoke either even she is a small bit breated on. Apologies lads we work in Euros and eurotrash kilometers here and everything is inflated. I have a good mate with a garage so mates rates apply. When I got the car the gearbox wasnt great so the failure was bound to happen. Putting in the SRE made a great difference. Tax is steep as she is taxed on engine cc .... ! In this half arse country they dont want you driving a fun car ... well feck them and double feck them. Unless sommit bad happens I intend to drive the Fabia as a two fingers up to the government ... ! These wee cars are a well kept secret ... You might think the below is steep but the service costs are low and the repayments dont exist - She did fail teh NCT on brake hoses so I just got Goodridge .. If she needs anything now it will be uprated stuff as it costs only a small bit more than the standard !! Hopefully Ive got this right !!
