REAR LIGHTS
Take a wee look at the connector to the light unit and make sure there is no corrosion - Earth point and also the bulb holders themselves could be all corrosion. Damp plays havoc with an older cars electrics !

Really tidy wee car there Ryan - Well done keeping her clean with all the crappy weather we are having !

That's for sure but mine puts a real smile on my face and gives great entertainment as the need arises - Its a tool alright but its the right tool for the job in hand ! Id say yours is an absolute riot to drive with the Bilstein's and a 2ltr NA plant ! You wouldn't be too short on smiles yourself either !

All you lads cars are so clean and tidy so here's mine after a week of rain and grime - I have no excuse for not washing her - Well I could blame domestic duty, kids homework, horseriding or swimming but that's not the truth....! Its pure and utter laziness !! Wednesday is our shopping day - So its Dunne Stores in Roscommon. Dunne's is across from the cattle mart and you can hear the cows looing as they nervously wait. Wednesday morning the car-park is fairly empty and I have my own space. I had a picture of the shopping in the boot but it was blurry. Tankful of Corrib Oil B7 and its homeward bound !

Diesel Monte's 2001 Skoda Fabia "Project vRSDI"
Getting any car from "The North" or UK is no longer an option here unfortunately - I have been driving my vRS for nearly 3 years now and never met another one yet. In fact the Mk1 Fabia is notable by its absence here ! I got a few bits from a 01 1.2 that a breaker has in Tuam. The only reason the car is being broken is nobody wanted it... She has all her glass and doors so interior si dry - I didnt look up to see the headliner but the interior is grey ! I cant recall if it has a sunroof ...! I'll drop by there and let you know Monday DM....! If there's anything you can think of you need Im only too happy to give them a shout ! I will

Skoda Parts catalog - ETKA Online, Skoda EUROPA, original Catalog Skoda EUROPA (7zap.com) Try the link above - Its the parts catalog so just go in model and year then the subsection Body - My workplace seems to have it banned .... or Im doing sommit stupid ! When you get the part numbers ring the local dealer and see if they are still available - Getting one from a scrapper might be an option if you are stuck but bear in mind the seals will be the same age as your own Your wee car looks really straight, rust is only surface and you would be amazed what a power polish will do for a car ... You were black cat lucky with bagging the leather seats - Great that you are giving Buttercup the TLC she deserves - These few jobs you are doing will have her going well, looking well and will extend her life. I love to see a car getting another chance - It breaks my heart to see a useable car being thrown away - At this stage the Mk1 Fabia has a very high cull rate so well done for saving one !

Gearbox help!
Just a small question ! As a matter of my nosiness what areas of buttercup are starting to break out with rust ? My car is as rough as a scrapyard Alsatian with various warwounds but I intend getting my bumpers fixed up and a patch at the back of the right side front wing sorted but while she is in we will get a good look through her and address any issues to try and extend the cars useable life. If I had a bit of an idea of favorite rust traps that would be great ! Yellow is my favorite color of Mk1 VRs. My least favorite is silver and that's what mine is - well silver and dents. Now you are going to have to put a picture of your car up

Skoda Fabia Vrs
Id agree with this as well - If the previous owner went through what we went through with ours I wouldnt blame them for changing the lights ! Our beloved Honda Civic Mk8 had Xenons and they were a pain in the backside - I put in 3 ballasts 2 bulbs and every year at the NCT test either they were out of alignment or the headlight wash nozzles werent working. My wife had a small mishap and we put 2 brand new genuine lights in and got a second hand bumper - Better lights and no more issues with washers, alignment or the flicker of death ...!
-
Diesel Monte's 2001 Skoda Fabia "Project vRSDI"
Well now - great work DM - I say NCT her ! Can't be too much they can shoot her down for ! Trick is to go for the last test of the day 2205 and arrive 45 mins early - that way the lads will be in a rush to get your car through and they can go home early !!

Sump plug size
Ive been down this road myself ! I fitted an M14 x 1.5 VDO oil temp sensor and brass washer in place of the sump plug. I change the washer every service and it doesn't leak - yet anyway !! I had all the bits from a previous life and enjoyed fitting them but whether there is any useful info from them is another matter !

Black smoke, poor acceleration in my SDI
The first thing Id do Kharl is ask yourself What changed before this problem occurred and zone in on that change - Did this occur in the run up to the engine change or after.? Its pointless and frustrating to just change parts without justification. I don't know if this might be relevant but did you use your original injectors or the ones that came with the replacement engine ? Why I'm asking is injectors don't like sitting idle with fuel in them and have a habit of sticking. Might work for a minute or two but then a piece of dirt could leave them open - I find this a lot working with classics but its worth ruling in or out anyway I have access to a scrapped 01 Golf Mk4 SDi and if you need anything I can see about getting it to you out there somehow

FMIC
I have the opposite problem of a hybrid 1756 with the standard pipework and SMIC - car is mapped and Ive never had anything nasty like boost leaks, limp home mode or heatsoak happen mine Well I do give an odd bootful now and again but not on a constant basis and the car still exceeds my expectation ! I know that mine has a lot more potential and my next step is to fit a FMIC and hard pipe kit but at the minute its well down my priorities. And I aint going tracking or rallying my daily driver Ken If I was to go for one the common fitment is an Airtec which a search on this forum will reveal an absolute treasure trove of info on fitting and pitfalls that others have experienced ! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222434222287?epid=1742089179&hash=item33ca1ce0cf:g:qWUAAOSwAQBaw6rm How good that one you came across is hard to know but If you do decide to get one the true potential will only be revealed after a bigger turbo is fitted.

Fabia vRS - Future Classic ?
That is so true - Although a few cars that were considered as landfill fodder in the 1970's now are highly sought after. Who would have thought that anybody would want an Allegro or a Renault 4. My vRS is also doing a great job for me but is far from original or mint so will never see the show scene either. A farm isn't ideal for car storage .. I have to kick the brother in laws scrap Golf SDi every time to put the rats out of it... Not only that he complained that the drivers seat of his TDi Golf was splitting ... It was chewed on by a rat but he does abandon the thing around the place with the drivers door open, keys in and calf nuts in the boot ! I don't think that his Golf will be a survivor either but being the type he is he probably will be still driving the thing in 25 years time.... If you want to prevent the flat spots on the tyres drive the car onto a rubber cow mat - You know the recycled tyre ones in the creamery ....

Fabia vRS - Future Classic ?
+1 on keeping it. She will need to be dry stored at least in the winter time - Keep the maintenance records stamped up to date with a reputable indy or main dealer. Keep a close watch on the bodywork especially around the structure and chassis legs although in fairness they don't suffer too badly yet. Keep the MOT's up to date even you aren't using her - this will prove the mileage. No long idle periods - Get her out and use her sympathetically In around 5-7 years time start appearing at shows and stuff - even a feature in a mag wont do any harm - Get her seen and word will spread - Don't advertise straight away and by the time you decide to sell all the collectors will be going daft for her I expect that 2023 will see an increase as its 20 years since the start of the Mk1 vRS - 2033 will see them go stratospheric on a side note a good friend of mine has landed a pretty unremarkable original Galway registered 02 1.4 MPi which is burgandy and has 27k miles which belonged to a lady who passed away in Salthill - It has all the paperwork and is totally mint and he intends to sit on it so its not just the vRS that will increase - Look at the 1.1 Mk2 Escort .. They have risen exponentially in the last 15 years ! I don't mind somebody keeping a car as an investment as long as it get used seen and enjoyed - to put a car in a bubble in some bricked up collection never to see the light of day again is an absolute travesty

Skoda fabia burning using oil!
Now I could be totally way off but I had a similar problem on an old Mk3 Cavvy - Was loosing engine oil like anything and the gearbox input shaft also made a racket, no oil anywhere on the floor Admittedly the clutch was also juddering. I ended up just taking it apart to see what had happened - The gearbox input shaft had a lot of play and this might have knackered the rear crankshaft oil seal putting oil on the clutch. Maybe the seal was going anyway and the gearbox racket was unrelated but thats what was found and it was hard not to think liek that given the evidence ! I took the gearbox out and replaced it with one from a scrappers - New clutch and rear crank oil seal and the car ran on for 3 more years .... I'm just hoping that the low oil level has not knackered the new tappets after all the good work you put in. You might have to get the gearbox taken out for a look but then its a bit of work. Keep asking why and make sure you get to the root cause and no matter how daft a suggestion is put it in the mix and rule it in or out !

Experience with Nerings turbo?
Do you have a garage local to you ? If you do ask them who they use to refurb their turbos - Id personally prefer to get a local outfit to refurb - That way you have a bit of comeback - With eBay it might be cheaper but there is an element of risk also the time and postage as well ! I had a noise in mine which turned out to be a leaking gasket but we had an outfit lined up that our spanner Dave uses all the time and they were €150 with a 6months guarantee Probably a bit of mates rates there but still not a kings ransom. If you intend holding on the car then its cheaper in the long run to have her right !

1.9 SDI EVRY MOD
More air ... ? Hold on ... Your prayers have been answered for £68 ...... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Universal-Electric-Turbocharger-Generator-SC006-2j1258/dp/B08LDBP7SJ/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=Electric+Turbo+Charger&qid=1624080002&quartzVehicle=29-405&replacementKeywords=electric+turbo&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEySEw3UTFZUDZVWjZPJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNjM4MDYxRUgxTE5WNExGUDhMJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA0MDMwMTUxWllUWDA0QUFGQ01KJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ== What a great piece of equipment and the SDi has the battery and charging system to power this revolutionary piece of automotive technology. Combined with that piggy back ECU mod you might gain 2bhp ..... But that's more than highly unlikely. In other words do what Ken and Sep advise ... Save your money ...!

VRS Lookalike exhaust
That's a lovely looking 944 Cab in the background BTW !

Aerial has stopped working?
Ive seen the mast itself on the roof causing that problem but not on a Fabia - Swap it out for another and that way you can rule it in or out before taking the dash and trim apart !!

Salthill Sundays
That's a month away so that's plenty of notice - We will work sommit around them dates DM ! I'm up for maybe a road run in Connemara - Its really nice with good surfaces, nice scenery and photo ops ..! The country should be fairly open at that stage so we can get a few stops in ! The classic car crowd are always about ! We will throw the line out and see who is interested and take it from there - I don't have any Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat or any of that young fellas stuff so I'll be relying on yous to put the word out. There is a bit of bad press at the minute around this meet but as usual its the 2% gombeens that give the 98% of decent folk the bad reputation. Car enthusiasts who brought Salthill to a standstill say they will postpone next event (irishtimes.com)

Salthill Sundays
Hi All This event is happening every Sunday now until September - Just gauging the interest if anybody is up for in a meet within a meet if you like. We will choose a point on the east side of Galway and gather there then convoy it to the meet itself. If you are interested then we will put sommit a bit more concrete in place around times date and locations !

Fabia vRS ECU Swap - What is required?
Even a vRSDi .... Just as a challenge to myself this morning and as its being discussed here I reset the average consumption and really feathered the throttle, kept below the speed limits - 70k in an 80k - 90k in the 120k - Now I did keep the car rolling along - carrying the momentum and keeping up the gears and had it in my head to change up around 2k rpm. I had no traffic at all ! At work I managed to read 4 odd litres per 100 km average which is 69 mpg ...! Whether that is true or not I don't know but its a good indicator ! Unless the car smokes very badly I wouldn't go changing the map - Even if you have a standard map and go everywhere on the door handles your consumption will suffer badly, you will get collared by the feds and end up in the nettles.

Fabia vRS ECU Swap - What is required?
Yeah I like the torque and unstressed nature of mine - She will return 50+ mpg without me even trying ... ! Over the backroads I can keep her tipping along at a steady pace on an easy throttle and just use the torque out of the really twisty stuff - Highly entertaining ...!! Motorway you are on about 1/4 throttle and she just trundles along with everybody else ! Mine was mapped with a hybrid turbo but still has the SMIC. I think the previous owner had intended to modify it further and told me of his plans but I duly paid no heed to that - Car has more than enough for me Just tip along nice and steady and dont go revving and booing for a week and you will save yourself buying stuff that you dont need ! Or as Ken said put a block of wood under the pedal !!

Fabia 1.9tdi VRs starts then dies
This might be a total sideways and unrelated but the brother in laws beloved TDi Golf IV had this exact scenario after being laid up and it turned out to be the cam sensor - She would fire up and run for 1 sec - We were of the notion that it was a dirty fuel filter or low fuel pressure and ended up in a rabbit hole. Worth a look to rule it out or in anyways !

Fabia VRS down dirt road
That Thread title got me hooked straight away .... Anything that involves rough roads and im in !! Welcome to the forum and good to see an Italian without a Fiat ..! You wont regret a Mk1 Fabia vRS I went with this set up 4 months ago and it has made mine a right riot to drive - And it will handle the rough surfaces no problem https://www.dcperformance.co.uk/uprated/bc-racing-v1-series-coilovers/skoda/fabia.html As the lads have said above the standard TDI springs will give you that bit of extra clearance - Put in decent quality shocks while you are at it as I suspect that these will be shot with the car lowered which is causing her to hit the sump . Maybe 15" steel wheels with a taller profile tyre might help ? There might not be any call for a sump and tank gaurd just yet....!
