  1. Loving the car and the quality of the work you’ve put in. Without getting in to the ‘how you spend your cash’ discussion, can I make a suggestion ? If you are giving Ninjas away, I’m really really really missing my old ZX9R 😉🤣
  2. Small world. I actually live in Durham, but my gf lives in Kirkcudbright and I spend most of my time at hers, thus both locations get a mention. I’m still getting to know the area, but as small as Parton is, I do know it. We do a lot of kayak training on Loch Ken and use the big lay-by, not far north of Parton.
  3. Mysteries don’t exist ? Sacrilege I tell you 😉 You obviously didn’t have enough Scooby Doo in your life when you were growing up 🤣
  4. I’d forgotten about my ‘incident’ until reading this thread. Not long after getting the car, I was driving at around 50mph on a clear road, when there was a loud bang in the car. My first thought was that I’d run over something, even though the road was clear and my eyes went straight to the rear view mirror, with nothing to be seen. My second thought was that a tyre had blown, but again, that wasn’t the case and a good check around the bodywork later, suggests nothing was thrown at the car. It’s a mystery ?
  5. With buying my Octavia Scout used, I’m not aware of how the first owner specced the car from new. Little things I’ve queried on the forum as I discover them by accident, such as reverse collision avoidance and a heated steering wheel. When I asked my dealer to find me a DSG Scout, he found two of similar price, one white, one blue. The only differences were the blue one had upgraded alloy wheels & higher mileage, and I was told both were otherwise standard DSG Scouts. Is there an easy way to check what mine has is standard, or if some of it is specced higher by the previous owner.
  6. What else is included in the winter pack and do you know if the winter pack is standard on all Scouts ?
  7. Thank you all, I’ll have look in the system next time I’m out.
  8. Sorry, I probably wasn’t too clear in my OP. I knew the heated seats were there, just not the heated steering wheel. Does your wheel heat up with the driver’s seat heating switched on, or was mine just getting warm from having the screen blowers on full to de-ice the screen ?
  9. My gf uses the heated seat option quite a bit on the passenger seat, whereas I couldn’t think of anything worse than being too hot whilst driving (thank goodness for dual climate controls). I accidentally switched the driver’s heated seat on yesterday and before I rushed to switch it off, I’m sure the steering wheel also started heating up. I wasn’t aware this was an option, or did I imagine it in my panic to stop the burning 😅
  10. Mine is based on a Peugeot Boxer XL chassis at 6.34 metres and was an absolute doddle on the narrow roads. I was in no hurry and made full use of the numerous passing places, for both oncoming traffic, as well keeping an eye on my mirrors and dipping in to passing places to allow faster stuff to overtake. The traffic was fairly light when I did it late September in to October and the worst queues I saw were caused by 4 Italian motorhomes, driving painfully slowly, in convoy and totally oblivious of the problems they were causing behind. Because they were travelling so close to each other, they couldn’t have made use of the small passing places, even if they were minded to. With views and beaches like this, I can’t wait to go back.....
  11. Cheers all, I’ll have a look in the infotainment menu next time I’m out. I know I can manually switch the lights off, or on as required, but I’m liking the idea of ‘auto’. Car was parked on gf’s drive in Kirkcudbright this morning in bright sunshine and after starting up, I checked round the car and found the head and tail lights on. I don’t think they should be coming on in such bright conditions, when ‘auto’ is selected I headed A75, M6 (in to the sun) & A66 with barely a cloud in the sky and they were still on when I got home.
  12. Is it possible to adjust the sensor for the auto headlights ? In the ‘auto’ position, mine seem to like staying on all the time, even in bright sunshine, when I would have thought they would automatically switch off and just leave the DRLs illuminated.
  13. It kept the cost down massively, when I discovered that my old Thule Aero roof bars and foot pack fitted the Octavia, then added my old Thule folding J-Bars. The only cost was having to buy a few extra coach bolts as I’d lost a few. Brought my 17’ 8 sea kayak and my gf’s slightly shorter one over from Durham to Kirkcudbright yesterday and it fit lovely, without too much rear overhang. Left them on the roof overnight and took them down to a friend’s place on the coast this afternoon for my first paddle, using the car as my base. The car’s dirty from the journey yesterday and the state of the local roads here at the moment, but here are a couple of pics.
