  1. @paulski those were my thoughts as well, I find the 1.6 is actually better across town than on the motorway. Perhaps I have just bought the wrong engine on this occasion...
  2. @NikTheGeek I tend to agree with you. I guess I'll run the 1.6 for a bit and see how it works out but it's not great - cruising at 60 is awful for what is still pretty bad mpg. What is the "pikey mod"? Although from what you say it may not be worth it!
  3. @NikTheGeekI have recently replaced my mk2 petrol VRS with a mk3 1.6 TDI (50,000 miles) and I am really disappointed with the mpg. I do a lot of motorway driving and I always use cruise control at 75mph. They are both auto gearboxes and at 75mph my old VRS would do 34/35 mpg, my newer diesel only does 43/44 mpg! I'm amazed it can't even manage 50 mpg, not even 500miles/tank. Have you found a way to improve your mpg? Sounds like we are in the same boat, maybe I should have done some more thorough research before buying. My old 06 Civic diesel would do 54mpg no problem. @paulskido you think the bigger 2.0 could actually be better on motorway runs than the 1.6? Thanks guys
  4. @pab567 ah I see thank you. So I need to get SmartLink activated either way. So the simplest option would be to just have SmartLink activated (presumably at a dealer?) and then I would have CarPlay on my current system? Thank you very much for replying so quickly!
  5. Hi @pab567and @SashaGracegreat information thank you! I just wanted to double check, I have just bought my second Octavia (MkIII 1.6TDI estate, 2015) and I have the Amundsen MY16 with DAB, part number 5Q0035874A. Could anyone confirm which new screen I can use that can use Apple CarPlay? And whether it is simply a case of switching out the screens? From the OP it looks as though there might be some limitation with the Amundsen MY16. There is a smart link option in my menu but it has to be activated by the dealer - might be nice to have a new screen though if it's a simple enough task! Thanks all
  6. Apologies if this has been listed, I thought I had the answer from my previous searches but has anyone got a good source for newer style badges that will fit on a MkII Octavia VRS estate? I have tried one set of 90mm + 80mm badges from eBay and although the seller claimed otherwise the front badge is just not the right shape. I suspect they are for a MkIII and not just as simple as "measuring your badge to make sure you have the right size". I have seen various different designs on SuperSkoda but aside from them being £40 they are not particularly what I'm looking for. Thanks all
  7. Ah ok thanks, that does make sense as they won't be seen. Any tips for removing the current one? The plastic pins look ripe for snapping to my eyes! Thanks
  8. Asking the forum before SuperSkoda - Hoping someone out there can remember what their colour coded grille from Super Skoda looked like when they got it. Mine was very well packed and paint all looks good but there are a couple of parts of exposed plastic that look suspiciously like they had tabs or clips attached to them and have since snapped...there were no loose bits in the box so not broken in transit and you wouldn't see them once mounted. I just don't want to go to the trouble of potentially damaging the chrome one that I want to take off if this one won't fix securely.
  9. Thanks you I thought that would probably be the case, think it was your build I saw the picture on. Will have to investigate further just not keen on pulling too many things apart just yet.
  10. Hi all, have just recently bought a mkII Octavia VRS estate which I am enjoyinga lot! It has factory fitted rear parking sensors and aftermarket front sensors. My question is about the front sensors as I can't find anything about the fitting in the history I received with the car. There is a button to the left of the steering wheel and there is a light box in the centre of the dash in front of the windscreen. The system works ok as far as I can tell but I think the light box has a couple of lights out. I have attached a few pictures in the hope that the community might know the answer to a couple of questions... 1. Is there anyway that the sensors can be shown on the columbus head unit like the rear sensors? (sounds a silly question even to me but I'm sure I saw this display on a columbus before..) 2. If the answer to 1. is no - Does anyone know who manufactures the sensors or where they might have come from? Can they be configured to show different lights or switched out for a different unit that perhaps doesn't have lights missing.. Many thanks for any help!
  11. Hey everyone Posting here after already using this forum a bit before buying my first Skoda - an Octavia VRS mk2 FL estate with 56,000 miles on the clock, based about 40 minutes west of London. Enjoying the car so far and enjoying the forum too, and hopefully will continue to enjoy for a few years yet Thanks all Simmo
