  1. I have a Mk2 Kombi 4x4 (diesel, 170 ps). Comfort and space (cargo and passengers) are excellent, but ive been somewhat disappointed with reliablity - but I put it down to bad luck, rather than any universal issue. I like the car overall and intend to get another superb when its time. The power, ride and 4x4 grip are all great. We often use a large roof box on ours and you wouldnt know its there. The columbus head unit is a pain in the ass, always doing something weird and takes ages to boot etc. More trouble than its worth tbh, I pine for the days having an RDS EON Radio Cassette head unit lol. I get low 40s mpg combined. Note that (of the age of vehicles you will consider) diesels are likely to fall foul of new LEZ rules in cities, whereas petrol models should be unaffected. Eg, my Superb is a 2011, and as of summer 2023, I wouldnt be able to take it into the local city centre, due to the new low emission zones. (I dont often anyway, but something to be aware of).
  2. I will send a PM with advice of how I fixed this on mine!
  3. Ive just sent you info on PM, hope that helps!
  4. I forgot to say - when researching I found at least 2 companies offering to fix the fault, if you sent them the unit. But they were charging well over £100 (plus carriage costs) and I would bet all they are doing is what ive just done!
  5. Bloody hell mate - I have only minutes ago fixed this problem on my own unit! Mine was showing the welcome screen for a period, then rebooting - screen went blank and then the welcome screen re-appeared, then the sequence would repeat. (the problem started on Saturday afternoon, driving back home - no problem on the way out, coming home suddenly the unit was goosed). All I did was re-install the software. I have software version 5238, which I bought on a disk off the internet a few years ago. I put that in, it reinstalled it automatically (too maybe 45 mins or so) and then suddenly the unit is back to normal. I had bought this disk originally because the unit had another episode (years ago) when suddenly it started displaying everything in German and would not change off of that. After installing the software, it still came up in German but then it would allow me to change it back to English. I must say when they work well, the Columbus units are good, but these 2 bizarre faults are 2 more than I have ever had with the ICE on every other car Ive owned (4 of them) combined. So they seem very temperamental units. I am not sure of the legality of disks of software / map updates bought online, but I think its bona fide (can someone advise?) given they are sold openly on a professional looking website. I think anyone can freely download the software and updates from Skoda, and this company must just be putting it on disk and selling it on. I will PM you more information, as obviously I dont want to post something which might break site rules. Cheers!
  6. Thanks a lot mate - and sorry for the late reply! Where is best to refer to, for instructions on how to remove the trim properly? Cheers!
  7. Hi all, On my Mk2 Kombi, I have noticed that the B Pillar vertical Trim on the passenger side tends to pop out from behind the seals. Its the edge closest to the front of the car which does it. I think if passengers are pulling at the seat belt, or holding onto the pillar to get out, this can cause it - although, obviously, something isn't right with it: could this be a missing clip or fastening? I have put up with it for a while now - it does pop back in again easily enough - but would like to fix it permanently. Thanks for any advice re: a remedy, cheers!
