  1. The handbook states the correct way to replace the battery (page 288) and you need to hold any button for 5 seconds after removing the old battery before you put the new battery in and the unit needs to be synchronised if the doors will not lock/unlock afterwards (page63) and the correct battery specification must be used. Synchronising the remote control If the buttons on the remote control key have been operated several times be- yond the effective range of the system or the battery in the remote control key has been replaced and the vehicle cannot be unlocked using the remote control, the key must be synchronised. › Press any button on the remote control key. › Unlock the door with the key in the lock cylinder within 1 minute of pressing the button. I hope this helps with the battery problems.
  2. If it states that it req CR2032 in the 2021 MY on specification then they have updated the key unit but I would be careful about fitting the CR2032 battery in the older key unit as it could damage the fitting and possibly result in needing a new unit and they are not cheap! be careful if you want to try fitting the 2032 batteries in the old series units it could be an expensive result.
  3. Hi all, my batteries are definitely Panasonic CR2025 and the one in the picture was fitted on the last service at my dealership 2 months ago. I don’t think the 2032 would be correct one to use as it’s almost 1mm thicker. The obvious difference between the two battery types would be thickness. The CR2032 is 3.2mm thick while the CR2025 is 2.5mm thick, 2025 - (170 mAh v 235 mAh) and is not recommended by Skoda. mine is a KESSY SYSTEM and I only had one instance of faulty operation almost 2years ago.
  4. That’s interesting! Seems strange they are that sensitive to voltage.
  5. Hi all, I have asked a good friend of mine that was a Skoda technician up to a few months ago and has now retired if he has any information on changing the key remote batteries from the workshop point of view and will post his thoughts as soon as he replies.

My car developed a rattle from drivers door area, tracked it down to the big button that isolates the rear Windows, explained to dealership receptionist and when in for the 1st service they replaced the switch pack, that stopped the rattling. Car had the second service a few weeks ago and I mentioned there was a slight rattle from drivers door again as before but they said they couldn’t locate any rattle? Now the rattle is worse and is the same button as before, it stops if you rest a finger lightly on the rear window isolation button, will be booking car in again for the possible replacement of the switch pack again.
  7. I am familiar with the Vauxhall keys, the earlier systems use the battery for the remote function and the starting function is done by a small ferrite chip in the remote that the car picks up and enables the start, they were able to drop out of the unit if dropped and it fell open and without it put back you could not start the car as the immobiliser would not enable the ignition and starter. It would then need a new chip to be programmed to the engine controller before the car would start. the KESSY version works similar to the Skoda system but we never had the same problems and a new battery always sorted the nonstarter unless the key was faulty.
  8. I think that could be the problem, if the battery is low it will not communicate properly and when you get into the car with the emergency key and push the start button with the unit it will work due to the close proximity, When mine went out it was a very cold day and it worked at first and I had started the engine with key in my jacket pocket and de-iced the windows and the message appeared after driving away, after a 10min drive to Tesco’s and stopped to pickup my shopping the car would not restart and the message would not go away. I think the battery was low and after being outside for a short while the -3deg C temperature took the battery too low to function. Maybe a good idea to replace the battery every year in the late autumn before the temperatures go close to freezing, just a thought.
  9. Thanks, I will ask my dealership if they can identify if my system is early or late with the new function.
  10. Thanks for the info, but while I was waiting I found and read the section on the KESSY in the manual and tried pushing the start button with the remote body as stated but with no result, I also tried using the emergency key out of the remote just to see if it would reset the system but again no result, but thanks again for the information.
  11. Mine is a MY19 that doesn’t have that functionality I believe
  12. Hi RobinH, I agree the KESSY remotes seem a bit sensitive about the battery make, mine just gave out one cold day after driving for about 3 minutes, a message just popped up saying “no key detected” and when I stopped shortly after to pick up my click and collect shopping at my local Tesco store the car would not start, no response at all, I phoned my local dealership and the manager said it’s definitely the battery and came out to me and replaced the battery and it started working again! I haven’t had any more problems with it since but I now keep a spare battery in the car just in case. I know the staff and the workshop technicians at the dealership personally so I will have a chat with them next time I’m there about the remote unit battery issue and reply to let everyone know what they recommend. might be a specific routine when the battery is changed?
  13. My batteries of choice are VARTA CR2025 that I buy from a reliable source.
  14. It looks like the Kessy key battery is a bit of a problem, mine gave up January 25 but as I was close to my dealership I phoned them and the manager came out to me and replaced the battery FOC and car was back in use. It’s been ok since but I now carry a new spare in the car and if I have a long trip I also take the spare key with me in the wife’s bag just in case. I think it’s a good idea to replace the batteries annually at least, I was a workshop technician for a Vauxhall dealership for many years and Austin Rover technician before that and we always replaced all remote key batteries every year as part of the annual service, we never had regular customers with key battery failure but passing customers did come in at times with keys not working. The problem may increase as the winter temperatures drop.
  15. 034 MOTORSPORT INSERT https://034motorsport.co.uk/034motorsport-billet-aluminum-mqb-lower-dogbone-mount-insert/ if you go to this website you will find all the information regarding the insert, it is made by a US company and they don’t have much information on Skoda application but the Skoda platform is used on many cars including the Skoda Karoq and the Skoda Octavia including the VRS, this website is in the UK and is a distributor of 034 motorsport products. There are 2 variants, an early and a late version, the website shows how to identify them. The modification uses the lower insert for general use and you can also get an upper insert to use in addition for use for track and performance reasons, but for normal road car use they just recommend the lower insert. There is a member by the name of GIZMO earlier in this thread that mentions the 034 insert. if you do a search on you tube for 034 dog bone insert there are a few videos posted showing information and how easy it is to fit the lower insert. I hope you or any other members find this information helpful. They also say the 4x4 platform doesn’t suffer in the same way and 4x4 owners don’t need the insert.
