That sort of info should be in the handbook, I can't give you any clue as mine is a 1.2 petrol cam chain engine.

Hi..I too have a 1.2 TSI petrol cam chain. Do you know when or if the chain needs replacing?

I cant see anything in the hand book and there is no service booklet like there used to be. saying which parts are replaced at certain mileage.

Have had the car from new with no issues, it's a 2014  with 105000 miles.

    Cheers.

  2. My Rapid 1.2 TSI will be due for a 40k service soon. The Dealers quoted £299 fixed price but like Tom_vRS  I don't know what is done at 40K?

Anyone know when the cam belt or is it a chain(?) is changed?

Just had a 40K service by my local garage(not dealer) on my 2 year old Rapid and all is great for £146 inc, vat. All filters changed,

brakes inspected/adjusted.. really has made a big difference to performance and fuel economy and half the price my dealer wanted !

The Timing chain according to Skoda has a life guarantee, never needs changing!!

  3.  Just spoke to a 2 Passat bluemotion owners in work and the big reason for buying what they bought was because it's only £30 tax and they would be seriously ticked off if they have to start paying more for road tax which may happen.

Both are estates - I think they are only 105bhp what if they have to get tweaked to make the emissions that was stated when purchased and in doing so it reduces the bhp. Thats a big car to drive with only 105bhp never mind less.

Or maybe I am missing something.

So lets assume a 'Passat Bluemotion' or 'Octavia Greenline' for example should be in a higher tax band than they actually are for emissions, how would anyone know in order to charge more for tax and a  2.0 Vauxhall Insignia for example has the same-ish emissions which means GM must be doing the same fiddling of emission tests. I cant believe a VAG group vehicle is any more polluting than a Vauxhall or a Ford within the same class of vehicle.

  4. Prices might be correct,.

but there is much in that press release that needs taken with a pinch or handful of salt.

It was Award winning before the car went on sale to the public or were delivered to the public then a few Trade Awards / Fleet- Business- Lease back slapping awards.

The Award Winning was part of the Advertising luckily for Skoda before the cars were available to anyone other than the Press.

Linking a car with only 110ps max available to the buying public with the Rally Success of a All Wheel Drive 1.6 Turbo because of Rally Inspired Styling and a name is pathetic spin from Skoda CZ / UK.

? Where is there any actual Rally Inspired styling on the Monte Carlo Fabia?

** The previous Monte Carlo Fabia could never really and truthfully be considered a 'Best Seller' in the uk,

it sold only around 7,000 models in 4 years, Choice of Petrol or Diesel Manuals,

but in just 2013 Skoda UK first registered 32,000 mk2 Fabia.**

(the Petrol / DSG only vRS sold under 3,000 in 4 1/2 years, double that of the sister car from VW, both being sales flops..)

It will be interesting to see the awards the New Fabia receives now that there are owners of them driving the cars,

and if Skoda can get the Connectivity they Boasted of working for the drivers.

Maybe time for the discounting of the different models that are available now.

Fabia Bodyshell for the R5 Rally car.

No Deck Chair style fabric for the interior, or 3 Cylinder Diesel Clatter.

it's the Torque figure that counts!

  5. A really good way of getting a few more horses under the bonnet is to fill her up with super unleaded. Fifth gear did a programme on it about 2 years ago and scientifically proved that it gives you more BHP, I only use unleaded in mine and it drives better and seems to give better MPG. P.s if you look like your pic you don't need to worry about new clothes, pretty face and nice car does the trick!

Hi Nels.  I've done 25K in just over a year now from new, mostly motorway driving in my 1.2 Rapid Sport and have tried Super Unleaded but

flooring the pedal does not seem make any difference ...apart from more costing more ££'s to fill up !

  6. I had a Mk3.5 Golf Cabrio before the Octavia.  I was far more likely to have the roof down in Winter, Spring or Autumn.  Summer is just asking for melanoma & sunstroke.

If I was just doing errands around the suburbs the roof was usually left up as there are too many tea-leafs & people want to throw their McDonalds wrappers in your car.

Hi Brad, I still have a mk3 Golf Cabrio, the Mk3.5 had bits of the Mk4 on it I believe?

  7. Doesn't sound worth it for an 11bhp increase (if indeed it can deliver any improvement at all).

You could probably achieve close to that just using higher octane fuel.

Hi Chris, have you noticed any difference with 'Super'  I thought I did when I tried it with Tesco 99 Ron, filled it from empty (well 5 miles range!)  and I thought there was an improvement but I'm now I'm not sure and have just had a 20K service which again seems to have made a big difference to the torque !

I was seriously thinking of a Shark Re-map but now the engine does feel stronger I'm happy with it and £399 is a fair bit to find for a re-map.

    Cheers.
