  1. Hi, Yes I did, left it on a flat surface for about 8 minutes while in a shop and then checked it (after fully warming up to 85C Oil temp which took about a 15 mile drive!!). Put in a splash and then checked a minute later - saw it had risen a tad but still under 1/4 so a splash more to take it to 1/2 on the dipstick.
  2. So.... I decided to take action..... I have taken car for a drive, and let it warm up fully and checked oil. Oil was at bottom of acceptable range so I topped it up (this makes no difference to the noise though). I did a few circuits on a hill locally and notice the following: It does it in both 1st and second from a standstill or virtual standstill only and is more pronounced (easier to make happen) when going uphill. It happens when at standstill in 1st gear and in virtual standstill 2nd gear It does not do it if I am driving at, say 30mph and kick down It's only a gentle whine that increases in pitch as one accelerates and then goes when returning to more sedate driving. My feeling is that it is actually a bit of turbo whine rather than gearbox whine but impossible to be certain obviously. If its normal then I'm happy as I don't want to give the impression that it's all the time or anything. I had a 2.0 TDi and never noticed any turbo whine on that - this being a smaller petrol engine - maybe its just that and I am not used to it. πŸ™‚ Paul
  3. Hi All, I have the Karoq 1.5TSi DSG with (I think) the DQ200 gearbox. Now I know all the stories / facts over the internet about earlier versions of this gearbox being a bit of a lemon so - that aside I have a quick question. The car only has around 4000 miles on the clock and its due for its 1st oil change quite soon. Very occasionally I notice a bit of a whine when pulling off from a standstill. It only seems to happen after I have stopped on a journey and am going uphill on the start again. This is not during the warm-up phase either this is after driving for maybe 20 minutes. You know the kind of thing - driving up a country lane hill with overtaking places and having to stop to let a car coming down the hill pass. When I then accelerate (reasonably swiftly but not silly fast) to make progress I hear a whine coming from the engine/gearbox that can only be described as the sort of whine you get from the gearbox on an original old Mini or other car of the 70's era of that type. It only happens until the fist gear change and then all is well again. It really only happens very occasionally too (because I only have to stop quickly going uphill and then pull off again rapidly occasionally). Once it's happened - if I then (on the flat) try to replicate it is does not happen and never seems to happen on the flat. It doesn't feel like the clutch is slipping at all, it accelerates just fine and the wheels are not spinning or anything - its just a bit disconcerting sounding like a 1970's mini gearbox and because of the tales of woe on the DQ200 it makes me (possibly) over analyse the situation. Would this be a normal characteristic - can anyone else let me know if they have had / get this? I was thinking (as its uphill) it could either be: 1. normal - gearbox under more load than normal 2. the engine oil is too low / too high and needs checking (not so easy for me as my drive is on a hill) 2a. Could it be that when uphill at a stop it starts off in 1st but normally it starts off in 2nd and this is why I only hear it occasionally - ps I am in the standard driving mode in full auto) 3. There is something badly wrong and Skoda need to look at it I want to get it looked at during the 1st service but because its so intermittent I just know whats going to happen / going to be said. thanks all, Paul
  4. Actually - A bit more playing and I managed to turn up the volume even more so its a good backup in case I forget to turn my phone on and have the PWGPS app alarms instead. Thanks for all the help @bigade1
  5. So I created the fake cameras and took a drive. I did hear a kind on muffled "bong bong bong". Is that the sound? If so then its pretty underwhelming and I think I will keep the camera's on the Amudsen system (for a visual warning) but set alert to "no" and use the PcketGPSWorld app on my Phone as its loud, clear and you can set it to any MP3 file for each camera you like. I can also set a distance for each type too. I can set this to launch whenever bluetooth launches. It also is properly directional and also I get things like "Bong - Specs 50" rather than an underwhelming muffled "bong bong bong" that wouldn't make me take notice "urgently" enough πŸ™‚
  6. OK cool thanks for that. I am also creating a "fake" couple of cameras just down the road from my house where I can test with a bit more anonymity πŸ™‚
  7. πŸ™‚ Thanks, I will do some tests and keep the eye out for the radio stutter and report back. May be some time though. Quick follow-up question. Is it possible to do this in satnav demo mode or will the bongs only work in real driving scenarios? Does anyone know. Might save me a lot of driving and looking a bit odd going round in a loop past the same speed camera.
  8. πŸ™‚ Does it work when you are actually in the Nav app and actively navigating or only when you are on anyting but navigation/actually navigating?? I am at the edge of my abilities here but... I recall reading somewhere (can't remember where) that the Columbus does not need a distance value to give a "bong" as its automatic based on speed but the Amudsen does as its based on distance. Might be a clue πŸ™‚ "activationradius" maybe ???? Might be talking cra**P though πŸ™‚
  9. I did a bit more digging and used a tool to view the DB3 data and this is what I saw under the poicategory table. Warnmessage field is empty on all 3 categories: Just wondering if this should have a value? Cheers, Paul
  10. So. A quick drive later and even though I have the Note:β€œMy POIs” box ticked on my Amudsen, when I took a drive past a camera - I could see it on the screen but no audible tone was given. The satnav was talking to me at a medium volume during the journey as well (so the sound was turned up for sure). any thoughts bigade1? Thanks Paul
  11. Thanks to all for this excellent piece of work. Special thanks to bigade1 for his exe file on GitHub. I use this with my own PGPSW files that I can download before a long journey. I have the amudsen hense the SkipMIB2HIGH. I did a little test using Demo mode and the warning bongs did not work so I will have a proper drive past a camera and see if it makes it kick into life. Not sure if the demo mode works with the sounds. I def had the correct config.ini (I think) as below. The icons are all on the map and I did have the setting under MyPOI's on the satnav to give audible warnings.: [General] OutputDirectory=pois SkipMIB2HIGH=True [avg] Name=UK Average Speedcams Warning=True Source=pocketgps_uk_specs.csv Icon=Specs.bmp [fixed] Name=UK Fixed Speedcams Warning=True Source=pocketgps_uk_gatso.csv Icon=Gatso.bmp [redlight] Name=UK Redlight Speedcams Warning=True Source=pocketgps_uk_redlight.csv Icon=Redlight.bmp cheers, Paul
  12. Hi, Doing a deep clean of tha Karoq today (with 18" Braga wheels) and noticed a little scratch. Does anyone know the correct Silver colour code please so I can get a touch-up kit? For now I have popped a bit of clearcoat on it to make sure it doesn't get worse. Thanks all, Paul
