  1. Late to answer, but I did change mine to the Monte Carlo black last year. If you are getting some work done on your car it's the easiest to just add this and have someone experience do it. I did mine by using breaking the tabs that hold it in place. Although I wanted to keep the chrome one for myself and not selling it, I ended up snapping it in a few pieces so it unfortunately went to trash. I did no damage to the grill or the bumper and the new one went on without issues but I don't think I would do it again this way. The only other option would have been to take the front bumper down, but under not circumstance do it yourself if you have the front assist radar, or you don't know what you are doing. If you unplug the radar module you will have to have it re-calibrated and at least where I am that would have ended up costing about the same as just the Grill surround (150 euros) (source - my neighbor wanted to change the grill on his Octavia vRS and ended up unplugging the module. Had to go to an authorized skoda dealer to have ti re-calibrated). Still if I am not wrong, if you take the front bumper down you still need to have the radar re-calibrated if you want to go by the book.
  2. Hey @fyren, I completely forgot that I had written to Skoda about this. Yeah basically the response was "Android Auto doesn't work wirelessly on the Amundsen in the Scala" but it's "due for an update" however they couldn't tell me when it will be updated, if it will be a hardware or software update, and if it will be available for older cars... So another false advertising from Skoda (for me at least).
  3. Thanks @PeePay for the answer. I found the guide from @ajrimmer and tried doing that, although at some point I already tried those steps before. I also specifically chose the "Wireless smartlink" option thinking that I will hopp into my car and I would already have Waze on the screen and my music playing (like it works for my wife). For some time I even thought they didn't add the wireless option but once I got the CarPlay to work I knew it couldn't be that. I think this has to do with the information I found in the configurator, that Android Auto Wireless is available except for the Amundsen. I don't understand why exactly the highest end Infotainment wouldn't support just Android Auto wirelessly. Unfortunatelly for me this was the only option in the trim I chose. I will write to Skoda to see if there is any chance that they are working on it and that maybe some time soon a OTA update would make it work. It doesn't seem like anything more than a software issue. Thanks for the help anyway.
  4. When did you get yours and what did you have to do to get Wireless Android Auto working? I bought my Scala in February (also in Slovakia) and my infotainment system, in the help-menu of the SmartLink mentions Carplay via USB and Wirelesa and Android Auto and Mirror-Link only via USB. I know they made some changes in April and now even on the Configurator it says that Wireless Android Auto is available except for the Amundsen Infotainment system (guess which one I have). I have been struggling with getting the wireless part of Android Auto to work while CarPlay worked seconds after pairing my wifes phone to the car, so I would be very thankfull for any help / ideas.
  5. Yeah honestly the tire cost argument was just BS to justify even talking about this because almost EVERY... SINGLE... PERSON... I talked to jumped on me with the "but why do you even need to go that fast?" or "that's not such a big deal is it?" argument. So I had to have to "justify" it with. Screw the tire cost difference and screw the 20 or so km/h of the advertised top speed that are missing. I will not ever drive at those speeds with my kid and wife in the car, and I will not drive at that speed on my commute to / from work. My initial issue was more like "is there something I am doing wrong?" or "is this a known fact which I have somehow missed?". Because for sure it wasn't mentioned anywhere. Once the service technician however confirmed that the car is limited from the factory my issue was resolved. Sure I was frustrated and annoyed, but now that some time has passed, I am over that. I haven't and I will not be writing to Skoda about this as I can already imagine their answers or ways how to get out of answering me. I like the car very much despite this and I enjoy the torque and acceleration much more than the top speed. So for me this issue is resolved.
  6. I just now checked some brochures from Skoda and it clearly says that the Connect App and One App should be working... Edit: Doesn't say that it will actually connect to your car 😕... Using it without that functionality seems pointless for me. It's incredibly annoying looking for any specific information on Skoda pages that is in regards to their own apps or infotainment because most of it is outdated and doesn't apply to the newer models anymore. @MrMorm - Any info from the ticket you opened?
  7. Probably. Don't really know as I didn't drive an inch on them. I had the dealer put on some winter tires so the summer ones are lying in my shed. Lucky you. I checked the Slovak law. It clearly says that you have to put on tires at or above the speed rating of your car. For a car that says it can go between 211 and 240 you need to put on V tires. Would they put the actual top speed of 200 I could put on H tires and issue solved... no bitching an moaning. Well I wasn't either. And I actually heard from other Scala drivers that they were able to go well above what my car is limited to. I think Skoda bet on there not being too many idiots like me who would want to see what the top speed is and those who want to will not really care after. Well I will be doing the same. I didn't cheap out on the winter tires either. I am well aware that the cost will not bankrupt me and I will not be a millionaire buying cheaper tires. I know I said that I have to pay extra for the tires, but that wasn't the actual point. "Out of principle" doesn't mean anything anymore, and I am the sucker believing what every piece of paper said.
  8. I seemed to be quite clear that I was asking for help in finding out what is wrong. Not people telling me "to get over and stop moaning" Yeah... I will do that. I am just not sure how many people will be interested in the findings anyway as "you don't need to drive above 120mph anyway"
  9. I know which one. I turn it off via the driving assist button and then un-checking the the box "Front assist". I get a yellow warning light and a special front assist light in orange that says it's off.
  10. Not in my case. I still have to buy the more expensive tires if I want to comply with the law in Slovakia as the registration says the car can do 220km/h (137mph). Sure I can "risk it" and buy the cheaper ones. There is even a chance no police officer will ever check the tires, but once they do it will cost me a lot more than buying the expensive tires. This is just a loose loose situation.
  11. aaand another one in the bunch. I mentioned it multiple times. It's not about the top speed. I would be perfectly ok with the top speed being what it is.... EVEN less. My problem is that I am forced to over-pay for tires. Just go and look at the prices of tires. The same size, same manufaturer, same model, same everything except, one with a speed rating V (which I have to buy now) and one with the speed rating H (which I would be able to buy based on the current top speed). Sure I can shrug my shoulders and move on. It will not bankrupt me, and neither will it make me a millionaire. But how far are we willing to let companies screw us over things we actually pay for? I don't have to fight against what Skoda had done but also against a barrage of people telling me that I do not need that speed either.
  12. @xman - Nah already tried that. Yes, I am 100% sure (see below for the conclusion as I talked to the dealer). I had a suspicion it might be the ACC as it can work only up to 210km/h so I disabled it. Same result. Then I suspected it might be the Winter tire warning, and that it's more than just a warning. Wasn't that. Tried disabling traction control and front assist. Same result. Plus the service guy said in no uncertain terms it's limited. Not even a hesitation or a mention of the ACC. Tried that as well.
  13. Too late for that advice now Yeah, I am stuck between "f*** this s***" and "I want to blow it wide open". I really want to keep the car as the top speed wasn't the reason why I bought it and I am afraid that they will need to "take it in for an expertise".
  14. So we understand each other. The problem here is that I was promised one thing and yet now I got a guy from the Skoda dealership telling me that "yes the car is limited to 124mph and if you want it to go the advertised speed you need to pay more and loose warranty".
  15. I knew about that, but I heard there is a 4 - 6k fine for any car that exceeds 155 (250kmh) for "environment protection". Therefore AMG, BMW and Audi were adding an extra charge to the purchase price (upon request) to have the limiter removed. Regarding Volvo I completely agree. But Volvo is upfront about that and I am pretty sure they will not advertise the cars top speed as "able to achieve 300 km/h" when it reality it's not. I tried looking it up and there is NOTHING. Not for Slovakia neither for Skoda. I signed nothing which would say something like this, that the car will be limited. I didn't even receive any verbal information about that. I don't believe it's a fault of the 1,5 Tsi. I found literally NOTHING on any car being limited in it's top speed other than AMGs, BMWs, Audis and generally cars that are able to drive in excess of 155mph.
  16. I am from Slovakia. We have a field called "Maximum construction speed" and then power of the engine in kW and the RPMs at which it's able to achieve it, but not engine torque. Ughh.... no clue I was paying attention to other things at those moments Yes, I am 100% sure (see below for the conclusion as I talked to the dealer). I had a suspicion it might be the ACC as it can work only up to 210km/h so I disabled it. Same result. Then I suspected it might be the Winter tire warning, and that it's more than just a warning. Wasn't that. Tried disabling traction control and front assist. Same result. Well It was bugging me so much that I wrote an email to the dealer. Surprisingly the service manager from there was quite quick to reply to my email with a call... and... well... He told me that, yes, my car is "certified" to achieve a top speed of 220 km/h (137) but "from factory" it comes limited to a tiny bit below 200km/h (124mph). And the only thing how to get rid of the limiter is to "chip it" (his words), but I would be loosing my warranty. I am not sure if this is supposed to calm me down or **** me off completely. From where I am standing this is just plain false advertising.
  17. Yes. Mine says its 220km/h (137mph) and I have it written in the registration papers from my car. So that should be the actual top speed the car can be moving at. Not what is displayed. Not sure. I think there might be differences based on the weight transmission etc. But as I mentioned, my registration says 220km/h (137mph) and that paper in my country shows the actual data about the car. So the actual weight, noise levels, equipment etc. which is basically a certification that my country has validated that data (sorry if it's the same everywhere else I just want to be clear that I am not basing things on the Skoda brochure). Yes! and I am 1000% aware that my car might not be the same as the other ones. Tires, wind speed, air temperature, road, fuel and a lot of other factors influence what I will be able to achieve. I would not be on here if I wouldn't be 100% sure that my car is electronically limited. As I mentioned, I achieved the speed of ~200km/h (124mph) going up a slight hill. Therefore going down the other side of that hill would mean that I can get at least a few km/h above it but I can't AT ALL. Also as I said the power utilization of the car goes down when going down hill which tells me that the car is not using the full available power when it is about to break that ~200km/h (124mph) barrier although my foot is planted well down. This can ONLY occur when the car has an electronically set speed limit. From my experience I was able to go 227 km/h (141mph) [INDICATED speed] with a Kodiaq that has a top speed of 210km/h (130mph) 195km/h (121mph) [INDICATED speed] in a Rapid with a top speed of 183km/h (113mph) 215km/h (133mph) [INDICATED speed] with an Octavia that has a top speed 205 km/h (127mph) on the exact same piece of road in very similar conditions. All three of those cars showed that I am going faster by about ~10 km/h (~6mph) but the GPS showed they were just about hitting their advertised top speeds. The Scala on another hand is by 10% below what was advertised. And it's not even that that exactly bothers me. I would be perfectly fine to have that top speed, but then I don't want to be forced to buy tires rated for a higher speed (ergo more expensive) only because the registration says 220km/h (137mph). Yes. 95 Ron with up to 10% of ethanol as my country want's to become very green and ecological (pardon my sarcasm). I still don't think the fuel has too much of a play here. I am not discussing a difference of 1-2 mph between the advertised and actual top speed but rather ~20km/h and a speed limiter I was told nothing about.
  18. HI all, I am fighting with a very stupid issue right now. Over the weekend I went to drive around in my Scala (1,5 TSI 6 speed manual) and I wanted to see what she's got. I had to find out that the top speed is electronically limited well below what it says on the paper. I know many of you will jump and say it's not necessary to even have that kind of a top speed and others will say that it's various factors that influence the ability of a car to reach it's top speed, so let me unpack here a bit. *DISCLAIMER* - I did all of this driving on an empty highway at night and I was the only one in the car. I was the only one who was in any "danger". I am 100% sure that there is a limiter. On the stretch of highway where I drove there is a small hill up and then a hill down. I was pinned at 209km/h - 210km/h (indicated speed - NOT gps speed) on the way up the hill and the same speed when going downhill. This already doesn't make sense. To be even more certain I switched the digital dashboard to the view where you can see the power utilization of the engine, and while on the way up the small hill it was at 110 kw, on the way down it started to go down to 90 - 100 kw. This is the same behavior as when you use the speed limiter function and approach the desired speed. It might seem like I am "just 10km below the advertised top speed" but that is not true. The 210km/h is indicated speed. GPS said that I was going 197km/h and the car is supposed to be doing 220km/h. That is a 10% difference between what is advertised and what is actually possible. My issue here is that I was never told there would be a limiter, I cannot find anything about a limiter and my cars registration papers say that the car is able to do 220km/h. The last one is the reason why I have to buy tires rated for 240km/h (V speed rating). These tires are more expensive than the ones rated for 210km/h (H speed rating). If I still use the H-rated tires I am risking fines if the polices stops me, or simply failing the technical inspection. So this is where I come to the questions that I am having: 1) Has anyone heard about a speed limiter like this? (except of cars like some Audi RS models, and some AMG models which can go well above 250km/h but are limited to 250km/h only) 2) Is this something which was put in place by the dealer, or from skoda? 3) Is it possible to remove the limiter with VCDS or VCP? 4) Am I missing something? - I thought it might be some break-in limiter but I have seen videos on youtube showing that people with 750 km driven were able to achieve the top speed. My car has 3700km already, before anyone points out I shouldn't be running the car at those speeds in the break-in period
  19. I have the same issue. On the one app page it says it's compatible with every car from a certain point, but there is absolutely nothing happening. The sales person at Skoda told me that the Scala has a different infotainment system compared to other cars from Skoda. So I am suspecting that they took the option away or it's a compatibility issue with the app, and they haven't updated it yet.
  20. I wish you many happy miles (or kilometers) in it!
  21. To my knowledge the car wouldn't even attempt to start if those conditions are not met.
  22. I have recently bought a Scala with the Wireless Smartlink option and it's not as easy as I expected. Part of it is the compatibility issue and Android auto not being avalable in my countries google store, but there is barely any information on the official pages of Skoda or Android Auto which doesn't help. Maybe it has changed now with some software updates and was different before but I f**** around with it trying to connect Android Auto wirelessly and I want to share my experience and what I found out. Android Auto (*Disclaimer* - I don't have a supported phone for wireless android auto so I wasn't able to connect it, but here is the information I found out so far and tried myself) 1) If you don't have Android 10 you need to download the Android Auto app. You better hope you are in country where it's available in the Google play store or you need to install it "unofficially". 2) You have to have a supported phone. I don't remember the exact models but it's some higher end Samsung phones, some Xiaomi phones, and anything above a One Plus 6T. 3) Once these conditions are met you have to setup the access point in the car. I have an Amundsen infotainment but the setting should be similar in the other ones (just follow your owners manual). The option "Infotainment system as hotspot" has to be turned on. You can setup the wifi password and the hotspot name there as well. 4) For Android devices with Android 9 you need to turn on "Developer settings" in android auto. There you select "Add Wireless projection to settings" and then you need to turn "Enable wireless projection" on. (I am writing this very broadly because that's what I read online but I wasn't able to get it working on my phone. If you want more info just let me know) 5) Once you connect the phone via cable and setup android auto it should take you through some other steps to setup the wireless connection and it should be done. There is also the "how will my phone get internet once I am connected to the cars wifi" issue. You need to turn on the developer options of your android phone and then enable the "Mobile data always active" setting. That way your phone will be connected to the car wifi but will use Mobile data for everything else. I also noticed an information that the Wireless Smartlink might be geo-fenced for some countries and will be turned off automatically once you cross the boarder of that country. This is probably why it's not available everywhere and there are "technical issues" with it. CarPlay 1) Compatibility is again a question here. I just know that iPhoneX with the latest software is working so your mileage may vary. 2) Connect the phone via Bluetooth to the car 3) The phone and the car automatically offer to use Wireless CarPlay. Upon confirming it takes about 10 - 30 seconds for setup and then the phone connects and CarPlay appears on the screen. From my experience the car play is connecting exactly as I expected. Once the car turns on it automatically loads CarPlay an continues from where it was left. It also uses Mobile Data while connected to the cars wifi. Car play was just so much less of a hassle to setup, but I want to keep using Android so a phone upgrade is inevitable for me. Hope this helps
  23. Hello everyone, so I to introduce myself.... I am driving Skodas ever since I have got my driving license. I started with a 97 Felicia 1,3 MPi, followed by a 2014 Rapid Spaceback 1,2 Tsi and now I bought a new 2020 Skoda Scala 1,5 Tsi with a 6 speed manual. I hope that I will be able to share my knowledge about these cars with other members but I already have a few questions myself.
