I had a failed engine coolant valve last week that caused my wife some miss-fires in heavy slow traffic (only happened twice in about a week). No error code on the dash, but a DTC that wouldn't clear. My local independent garage did some diagnosis (as there are 2 valves apparently that can cause the code below) and today got the part in stock and replaced it.

 

All seems to be running well now @ 60,000 miles on the odometer.

 

This was the error code if it helps anyone else!

Took the car to my local garage this week, they've confirmed that it's the coolant valve for the engine rather than gearbox (apparently there are two), part will be replaced next week once it comes into stock. Hopefully it will fix the error code

Give it a good look over and make sure that the DSG has been serviced every 40,000 miles. Would be good if the Haldex had been serviced too (and ideally a new filter) with new oil.

 

280 L&Ks generally get snapped up very quickly - so you've probably done the right thing!

 

 

Note that you can get the head unit upgraded to the later model (2017) larger screen, that's certainly an upgrade that I've enjoyed on mine (see my build log for more info).

Hi all,

 

Hoping that you can help me identify an issue with my 2016 280. We've had two incidents recently that are a bit weird with the engine:

1. Engine went lumpy and threw up EPC code after very stop start heavy traffic when my wife was driving
2. Engine went lumpy then cut out (on another day) whilst stopped (after queuing for passport control)

 

Any ideas what this could be? Seems to be sporadic so far.

 

Car has done 60,000 miles and has had the spark plugs changed in the last year (and is serviced at an independent every year).

Something does sound wrong - as the standard car is comfortable with and without DCC (and is tailored to the softer side), and the Scout version should be even more comfortable.

 

As above, check that the transport blocks have been removed.

 

Failing that you'll need to replace springs / dampers.

[Retro fit reverse camera on 2021 superb]

Yes it's possible, but it is a complete pain.

 

It's easy enough to retrofit the camera onto the back of the car (and then to re-code the car to tell it that it has a reversing camera), but then you have to wire it all the way to the head unit at the front. You can't use the existing wiring.

 

For this reason, I haven't bothered on my car. It really is a great feature though and is annoying not to have (I have it on my Focus).

DSG oil change (and new filter) at 40,000 miles. Cleaning the Haldex pump and replacing its oil at 40,000 miles too is also a good idea.

[Power Tailgate Fault]

Sorry for the thread resurrection - 

 

The boot hatch / tailgate on my Superb mk3 (2016) is still working, although it does produce error beeps sometimes which requires you to physically force the boot to close (by pushing it). The problem hasn't been persistent enough to warrant replacement of any parts - but if it gets worse then we might have to.

 

Here's to another few years of ignoring the problem 😄

The factory 17" wheels fit nicely on my 280 (summer is the 18 inch), this is a similar car (not mine):

 

My winter wheel set is shown in my Project Log. If you can find them they won't be expensive as they're not a cool looking wheel - I got a set of 4 for £300.

To be honest I never fitted it as the smell went away on its own. I think diddling with the rubber seal around the petrol filler hole made the biggest difference

Replacing the infotainment screen (MIB2 -> 2.5) was the best modification to my car. It makes a huge difference!

 

I didn't bother with the digital drivers display due to the cost and complexity, but I'm very impressed that you did.

You can retrofit a steering wheel with paddles and heating - but just not that one.

 

Look on eBay for one that looks like your existing one. Apparently the paddles don't need coding or additional hardware, but the heating will... (sorry not quite sure what)

I'd say that you need a new door as the scratch is quite deep.

 

Look at my project log for the damage my wife did to our Superb - cost around £1000 for that to be repaired (and it was much less deep).

Prices were crazy, but seem to have started coming down.

 

Bought our 2016 280 L&K from Arnold Clark in March 2020 for £17,995 with 40,000 miles. Similar mileage / condition cars were £25k a few months ago. A few minor bits have needed doing, but as a family load lugger it is excellent. I couldn't recommend it more for family abuse - the leg room in the back is epic as it means the children struggle to reach the seat in front to kick you 😉

 

The massive boot on the estate version is also handy too.

Why change?

 

Stick with what you know and replace with electric when it's worn out in 5-10 years time. Bought mine (late 2016 280 L&K) at 40,000 miles, now over 50,000 miles and no concerns.

Noticed recently that the cabin smells of petrol after a period of no use, any ideas on what could be the issue?

 

I've previously asked for the carbon evap canister for the fuel tank to be checked at the time of the last service in August but no issues were found. Also not had any error messages on the dash and no leaks by the rear right hand side wheel well.

 

Car is a 2016 Superb 280.

Small update today - as it's now spring, the summer wheels and tyres are now back on, with 2 new Michelin Primacy 4's at the back fitted today to replace the oldest budget tyres on the car. No change to the front as the tyres are quite new even if they are budget tyres that came with the car!
