Droning (not me, the car)
Meanwhile my Frenchie specialist would be surprised if it doesn't come back like that I have P-Zeroes on my RS230 sedan, new ones up front and (I assume) the originals on the back. There is definitely some tyre roar at freeway speeds, but still not as much as my 20yo GTi6 (which is wearing Goodyear Eagle F1 D5) so it doesn't bother me. I suppose that's not very helpful... One thing I will say though is that despite the overall NVH reduction, there's a noticeable difference in the way the 19"s sound over a rough surface compared to the 15" 195/55s on the GTi6. Hard to put into words exactly what it is...more echo-y perhaps? I run 40psi on both cars for reference.

MK3 Octavia front doors seem a bit small
Anyone else ever wonder why IR bothered with the tilting launchpad system when Thunderbird 2 has VTOL capabilities? 🤔

MK3 Octavia front doors seem a bit small
I'm 6'2 and have the same issues! Coming from a 306 GTi6 with massive coupe-style doors, the B pillar feels like it's about ½ft too far forward for getting in & out AND for the massive blindspot it creates. Don't think there's any way to fix it without going back to driving with my knees up around my ears.

Octavia Estate 245 Performance Upgrades
*takes notes* Does lower dogbone mount apply to RS245? Just fitted the 034 one to my RS230 and wow, what an improvement! Have given it full beans in wet, dry, TC on & off, no axle tramp. Also adds a very very mild vibration on moving off and/or moderate throttle, like you can feel the engine working now. Even better than I thought it'd be 👍

VRS
Bear in mind I haven't paid toooo much attention to it, as pretty much anything is going to be better than the ol' GTi6, but I noticed it sitting on 7l/100km this afternoon. That was after 20km on the freeway then about 15 of urban, including a bunch of rather brisk takeoffs to test the lower dogbone insert I had just had done (wonderful, no axle tramp even with TC on). This is the manual pre-FL RS230 mind. DSG may fare better as I rarely shift as early as the dashboard indicator suggests.

Hatchback pan roof owners I need your help....
Hmm hard to say, but I had a look at the website myself and it seems there's no option other than "normal roof" for any Mk3. I would send them an enquiry just in case but it sounds like they're not willing to give it the green light.

What would you change about your Octavia?
- AWD would be nice - Better RHD conversion (I should be used to it, coming from a Peugeot 🙄) - User-mappable throttle curve - Wider track (spacers illegal where I live) - More engine/exhaust noise - A boost gauge in the dash 😁

Anti-roll Bars
She's a witch!! 🔥 Ahem. I have seen ARBs mentioned in a thread recently but couldn't tell you which one, as I've been reading a lot of old postings. If you google Mk3 Octavia roll bars you could probably find it. Alternatively, try asking on a VW or Golf forum as they would surely know.

Brodit Clip advice.
Don't know if I'd want to be attaching anything like that to the A-pillar given it contains an airbag, unless I've misunderstood your intentions? Regardless, if you want a GREAT mount system look up RAM mounts. They make a huge range of modular components that allow you to build the exact system you want. I bought a pre-built phone mount off them a couple of years ago because everything else I tried would come flying off the glass in Aussie summers - no problems with the RAM. It's a bloody good product, well worth the coin 👍

Dash Cam recomandations
I've recently got a DR900S but am yet to hardwire, just plugging in to the cigarette socket when driving for now. Is there any trick to popping the headliner down? I have the sunroof and am worried I might break something should I just start prying. A-pillar cover seems easy enough. On a related note, is there a good resource for the various fuse electrical states for cars fitted with KESSY?

DSG revs not dropping when stopped
Well bugger me, I was under the impression electric AC was commonplace on modern cars for the purposes of fuel economy... Learn something every day, eh!

DSG revs not dropping when stopped
I'm a bit shocked reading this thread! I understand that AC compressor and PS pump loads raise idle RPM, but assumed that the Mk3 had an electric AC compressor to go along with the PS. Is that not the case?

A loud green is certainly not the norm these days but that doesn't make it bad. I think it looks great in those pictures, and probably even better in person 👌 My RS230 is in 'battleship (steel) grey' which I found ugly on first viewing, but has since grown on me. Have also had colleagues and randoms alike compliment it in carparks etc. I'm sure you will experience the same with your 'acquired taste' green 😃

Can anyone identify this part? Found loose in driver foot well
Yep I spotted the diagram posted in one of the linked threads, cheers Doesn't appear that anyone knows what on Earth it actually does if anything.

Can anyone identify this part? Found loose in driver foot well
On 18/05/2020 at 06:56, Howardd said: I’m still not clear what function this securing ring performs. The bolt screws into the the ‘panel nut threaded insert’ so what is the ‘securing ring’ securing? It’s seemingly not even managing to secure itself never mind anything else in quite a few instances. I’m confused. Hahaha this comment about sums it up it would seem! The chap who designed it must've been on loan from Peugeot.

Can anyone identify this part? Found loose in driver foot well
As per topic really. Parked in driveway this evening and spotted this part just sitting on the mat in driver foot well. It's about 1" across. No idea where it's come from, didn't hear or feel anything break during drive! Any help appreciated

Engine sounds like a TC auto kicking down when boost comes on, but car is manual
Yeah that's very close, but mine only rises once instead of multiple times and doesn't jump up by as much. Oh well, the clutch in my GTi6 has been buggered for years and I've kept that going so I should be able to eke a bit more life out of this one yet 🤔 Is there a go-to upgrade for that?

That's what's odd, it still pulls really strong! Perhaps it's only just starting to slip...

Engine sounds like a TC auto kicking down when boost comes on, but car is manual
Really confused by this! I have a 2016 RS230, the pre-facelift one with VAQ. When cruising along at a steady speed, ie highway, if I push the loud pedal to the floor/close to it the RPM will quickly rise up ~500 as the boost comes on, then fall back down to the expected RPM and accelerate as normal. The acceleration feels strong from the moment boost comes on, but the RPM (needle and engine sound) behaves as if something is slipping, almost like a TC auto kicking down a gear then shifting back up, or like I've partially kicked the clutch. The thing is that the TCS isn't tripping, and I doubt it has the grunt to do so anyway at for example 80km/h in 6th on dry tarmac with 2wk old P Zeroes. It pulls so strong that I can't imagine the clutch is buggered, plus there's no smell, and it engages wonderfully at all times. Seems most noticeable in 4th-6th, but can't rule out the other gears (moves too quick to reliably see it there). Just to reiterate, to me at least the acceleration/pull feels completely smooth, it's just the RPM behaving weird. It's not like there's a sudden surge and then the power backs off. Just throwing it out there, could a lack of proper VAQ maintenance cause something like this? Any suggestions appreciated!

Which driving mode do you use?
YES! It is a touch boxer-y, it sounds quite out of place. Particularly at low RPMs. Ah I see, that makes some sense. Considering how readily my GTi6 will light up the inside tyre, and how many more herbs this has, the VAQ must be doing a lot of silent work.

Which driving mode do you use?
New RS230 owner here (pre-FL manual). So far (a week) I've solely used Individual mode with everything important set to Sport. I've recently dialed down the sound generator though, as it's a bit grumbly & unpleasant at low RPM. I've also just set the "drive" setting to Eco as I found the throttle was too front-loaded for my liking when set to Sport. This could well be because I'm coming from a GTi6 with half the torque, whose cabled throttle kept engine shouty-ness directly proportional to right foot application. I'll have to give Normal a go too and will end up on whatever setting feels most natural/linear. Maybe it's my imagination, but does the Drive setting affect the brake pedal at all? I swear it feels a little softer now. I'm also curious as to whether the differential settings are purely for the brake-powered EDL/XDS functions or if this also affects the VAQ for models such equipped?

Skoda Octavia 3 Owners register
G'day chums 😀 Took ownership of the below RS230 this week! Never pictured myself driving a Skoda of all things when I started the search for a fun manual wagon, but here we are. After some thought I've decided that Ramius is the perfect name for him, as- I've just defected from the French car family, the "battleship grey", and the proper pronunciation of "Škoda" reminds me of Sean Connery I like to tinker so have already ordered a dogbone mount to tone down the bloody wheel hop....will look into VCDS next!
