  1. I put some stop leak oil in my rack but it doesn't seem to have made any real difference. Given the value of the car I thought I may as well give replacing the rack ago my self. I have found this helpful video about replacing it on a mk4 golf. Is it a similar job and does anyone have any tips?
  2. How can I change the steering boot? I have found a small spit next to the outside clip. I can't see how to access the inside clip to fasten a new boot in?
  3. Where do the lines run from the pump? Should I have expected to find any oil behind the gator?
  4. Thanks. I am still not really sure where it is leaking from. I put some cardboard under the wheel and it seemed to be leaking from the end of the gator but when I pushed the gator back there were only a few drops of oil on the trackrod.
  5. How much should I expect to pay for a replacement rack fitted to a mk1? I have been quoted around £330 online.
  6. How would I put more tension on the passenger door handle? when opened the handle wont always pull back into position. All the instructions I have found online have two screw holes on the inside of the door where as mine only has the one.
  7. When I lock the door with the drivers side lock all the doors lock fine but if I try locking or unlocking using the passenger side lock it does not activate the central locking system and locks/unlocks the passenger door. Would this be a simple fix?
  8. When running a scan on the instrument cluster with vcds I get fault 01197 Power Train Data Bus; Incorrect Software Version. Anyone know what this means? Only fault I can obviously see is that the speedo overestimates by about 5-6%.
  9. Top coat is peeling off in parts showing the grey primer, also looks like there is a small amount of surface rust under the bonnet and quite bad deterioration of the back box but nothing structural or particularly serious. The primer, base coat and lacquer only cost me about £25 so I thought it worth repairing considering that everything else on the car with the exception of the seat works fine.
  10. Thanks it has too small clips on the front edge of mine and the rest just pulls out. Lots more corrosion than I expected on the passenger door.
  11. How would I remove the bottom part of the rear door seal as in the picture? Tried gently pulling it but it doesn't seem to want to come off.
  12. Do the Audi A1 seats fit?
  13. Do you happen to know what size bolt holds the thermostat housing on? I dropped one and can't find it anywhere.
  14. Does anyone happen to know which front seats are compatible with the mk1 fabia and where the best place to get them would be?
  15. Looks like a real pain to access. Is it worth emptying the coolant first or just letting it drain out when the thermostat is removed?
  16. My temperature gauge seems to hover between 1/4 and 1/2 temperature so I am guessing the thermostat is stuck partially open. Where is the thermostat located and how would I go about replacing it?
  17. Do you run the SDI on purely veg oil or do you mix something else in when it gets cold?
  18. Did you have to tell your insurers that you were running on oil? I will check which pump I have. Isn't the pump on the sdi driven from a belt rather than a motor?
  19. Has anyone had any experience recently running their fabia sdi on veg oil? I am thinking of trying it on mine should I notify my car insurers?
