  1. Ok so I've bought some kit Got an MTX-RTP8 8" active sub 120RMS for £130 a MTX-TR450 4Channel 300RMS for £95 and 2 sets of MTX-TR65S 65RMS Component Speakers for £60/pair All from different suppliers so hopefully all use good couriers that get here in good time. Quick question about wiring, total RMS for active sub and 4Ch Amp is 420RMS, any suggestions on what size power wiring, I was thinking 10mm2 about 7 AWG should do, but I could well be wrong. Another thing is that I found this awesome video (Which I will link to at the bottom) of full speaker swaps on a MK4 golf r32, he uses a lot of the same methods that @JohnnyType2did and it seems that according to my Scala Workshop Manual the VAG techniques for doing this procedure on mine is much the same. However what I did find interesting is that in the vid he talks about components replacing existing oem components is fine as the head unit knows what signal to send to each speaker (not sure how as the headunit only has Front Left positive and negative which both head off to the tweeter and woofer, is there an oem crossover in there before the wires split off to each speaker?). However if replacing a standard door speaker with components then the kit would need a crossover unit between the head unit and the speakers to send the right frequency to each component. I am replacing components with components, however I am putting an amp between the headunit and the speakers, so will this mean that I need to put a crossover unit back in after the amp? I am now concerned that the amp will just force the same power and frequency to both tweeter and woofer which would cause damage surely. Help on this would be greatly appreciated, cheers. 2. Starting a little project inspired by @JohnnyType2 and his aftermarket sound system - The sound system in my Scala SEL is actually quite good, delivering a fair amount of punch and body to most music. However it is not overly crisp or clean in anyway, and above 50% volume starts to distort quite rapidly, and above 60% it full on crackles. It doesn't have the digital sound package as mentioned by others in Octys and Superbs, and the head unit isn't automatically doing a bass roll-off, so there is no loss of bass as the volume is cranked, just sounds like they will blow. I am by no means and audiophile or wanting a full competition setup, nor do I have the budget for it. However, I am a hobbyist and enjoy tinkering and improving things where I can on a decent budget. So what I am wanting to do is, keeping the original headunit, add in an active subwoofer, replace all the standard loudspeakers and tweeters with aftermarket components and run them off a 4channel amp. I think, it would look something like this... I am thinking of placing the 4Ch Amp as close to the headunit as possible, under passenger seat (or in footwell up behind glove box if possible, although this may be hazardous for passengers if within striking distance of outstretched legs) reason I want it to be clear is that I would like to keep original speaker cable in place through door jambs etc. So cut speaker cable at headunit, extend it and run it to the amp, then run it back and reconnect it to cut cable heading off to speakers. Power from battery with fuse to the amp and then in relay to the active sub enclosure. REM on from Head Unit Aerial Power? again in relay. In order for the low end sound for the sub, I would need to splice into the rear speakers and run the high level through a Level Output Converter so that RCAs can then be used to the sub. As I am not experiencing bass roll off I think LC2i is a bit overkill, especially on a budget. So will need more research into this one, maybe one from Connect2. With regards to brand, I am looking at MTX Audio products, I have had some of their stuff in the past and it always produced nice crisp and clean sound at a relatively good price, and it seems as though their stuff still gets a relatively good write up. Before I sign off, I also took the A-pillars off to investigate the standard tweeters. Anyone have any idea how to get these out? I was able to get the black plastic back off but no further. To me it looks like the 4 corners of the grey plastic mount are going to have to be drilled off in someway so that that plastic piece can be removed from the clips, then find an innovative way to mount new tweeters behind the A-Pillar mesh grille. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Oh I'm also aware that I will need the Connect2 CT25SK01 Skoda speaker adapters as well to replace the door speakers. Don't think I need a new harness for behind the head unit though, as I am not adding or stripping out any cabling. If anyone has any thoughts, suggestions, tips or tricks, then it would be most welcome. Thanks and hopefully I may be able to start on this over Christmas, weather permitting,
  3. Really nice project, love all the mods you have made.
  4. I agree, think it looks like a slightly stretched out A3, which is funny really as it shares the same base as the A1 and a Polo. You really do get a whole lot more for your money with the Scala. I went for the 1.0 115PS TSI with 6G Manual. My decision was primarily made based on early reviews on youtube from carwow and the such like stating that you didn't get much more punch for the extra buck with the 1.5 TSI. Pleased I listened to the advice as the 1.0 TSI is a fantastic little engine, it revs well, pulls well, drives well, and is efficient. Most of the time I am driving the family around town, wife to work, eldest to school and youngest to nursery etc, so no more than an 8 mile loop and I still get 42mpg. On the couple of occasions this year where we have been allowed to travel and see people, I have taken it on a long journey down to Somerset, and an even further journey to Durham (I am in Leighton Buzzard, Beds) and on those drives I got 58 and 54mpg respectively. Thats with the whole family in the car and luggage too. Very responsive, fun and efficient engine with a smooth gearbox to sum it up really. Previous car was a 1.6 (Petrol) 125PS Ford Focus MK3.5 and honestly the Scala blows the Focus away! Key comparison is weight to performance, Focus always felt heavy like it was dragging its butt, and you really had to get it to 3.5k revs to get it to move and even then it was sluggish. It was also noticeable when having a full tank compared to a quarter tank, I never liked to fill it over half as it just felt too heavy. And if you had the family in it you wouldn't get up a hill in 3rd! The Scala, admittedly a newer car and newer engine tech, is just leaps and bounds better. It is light yet feels stuck to the road, it doesn't roll or dip and dive with weight, a quarter tank or full tank, just me or fully laden, it feels and responds no differently.
  5. They are very nice alloys and you are right they do suit the body colour. I go back and forth - a lot. I almost went for the Vega Aero that come standard with the Monte Carlo Trim, but I am so glad that I didn't as the Monte Carlo has become very popular across Europe on social media and therefore instead of looking impressive they look a bit 'common'. Maybe I should wait until its lowered first before deciding on the alloys. The silver looks great, but I also think due to the angles in the spokes a good gloss black could really pop and make it look quite individual. Choices choices.
  6. This is my Skoda Scala SEL. I absolutely love it, such a fantastic hatch. Project_A.png shows the Skoda gallery pics of how it left the factory. I opted for the exterior design pack consisting of full panoramic glass roof, extended tailgate glass, full dynamic LED headlights & fog lights. Additionally I also went for the 18" Vega wheels. Project_B.png shows the mods I am going to make, and have started on. To date I have swapped the front badge for the Monte Carlo black F9R 90mm badge from superskoda. The rear 'Scala' badge has been removed, and I have replaced the chrome 'SKODA' with the black Skoda badge again in Monte Carlo black. Added the genuine mud-flaps too, which was a really great addition as they are very inconspicuous but really help protect the metallic paintwork. I already have the Monte Carlo black magic grille frame to go on at some point soon too. I also ordered the Eibach pro-kit springs to drop the ride by 30mm. And I have just got a quote back from my local Bodyshop to refurb/paint the wheels in gloss black, the brake callipers in Rosso red to match the tail lights, and the rear bumper diffuser in black gloss too instead of the textured dark grey that it is now. So I am thinking that I might wait until the spring and then get the alloys, brakes, diffuser and the Springs done all at the same time. Like the idea of adding a black gloss tailgate loading protection strip too, to help connect the black from the glass down to the diffuser, shall see about that one. Shall keep you posted on how this little project goes. Cheers

Indeed it does, and you get a caution on the virtual dash telling you as such. This is purely an infotainment error with Amundsen unit though, as when the continuos beep finally stops after about 10seconds the screen shuts down (black) reboots (skoda logo) signs into primary user and continues where it left off. This sequence of events can sometimes be 30 seconds long and up to 1 minute in 1 case today. A google shows this has been a continues issue with Amundsen units. Some suggestions include; Update android auto, Use a different USB cable for connection, Update firmware on head unit. I have tried all of these, I have even tried driving without phone in car so no connection to bluetooth or android auto and just listening to radio and the infotainment still crashed. Marshalls Skoda MK found no error logged in the system. The only way to fix it is to completely factory reset the Amundsen unit. That way you get between 1-2months rest before it occurs again. The pain with this however is that if like me, you customise the infotainment with preffered stations, contacts, locations, icons etc then you have to redo every time you reset. Which lets face it, is not a real solution. By all means google 'skoda amundsen crash and restart' seems as though it effects the whole VAG with amundsen units. Odd considering they are the higher end unit.

OCU recall didn't fix it, went 3 times in 50 minute drive this morning. Grr!

It's a very different beep to the front assist. Only way I could maybe describe it is like the mechanical dial up beep that you used to get when connecting to the internet, and it is very distinctly coming from the sound system speakers. I had the OCU recall done last week, they investigated but couldn't find any fault logged in the system. Has been ok since, will give it another couple of months and see if it reoccurs.

Hi Jez, did yours get sorted? Mine has started doing it again, and very frequently, every 10 minutes! Booked in at Marshalls MK for the recall OCU issue on Friday and asked them to look into this issue too.
  11. Bambi got up and ran away before you could even say 'Venison burger anyone?'
  12. Hi, I don't have the TSR on my model, however in the virtual cockpit display I have discovered that in some viewing modes I am able to press the back arrow button next to the scroll wheel, and this will change the display between the dials. For instance, on mine it will allow me to cycle between, nav, current music artwork or radio station, or vehicle status. So it might be that on yours you have the extra option of the TSR. Press that back arrow button and see.

Hi Jez, did your infotainment error sort itself out in the end? I had this exact same thing happen to me, I even had it booked into Marshalls MK to sort it out, however 2 days before it was due to go in the infotainment software upgraded and I haven't had the issue since. It is worth noting, that mine only seems to update if the power is on but without the engine running. I have actually had another update recently too, so think they must be sorting some tech bugs out. Definitely worth leaving the key in it with the power and radio on next time you wash it and see if it updates.
  14. A friendly hi to all. I am new Skoda Scala owner, purchasing in March of this dreaded year. It's the first Skoda I have owned, and already I have found some helpful tips, tricks, and info through this insightful and knowledgeable community so thank you. A little about me, 36, from central beds, only had 3 cars before this, first being a VW 96N Polo that I absolutely loved and spent a lot of time modifying as it was such an easy car to tinker with. Secondly a Toyota Aygo which was just a little run around when I wasn't commuting by train. Thirdly a Ford Focus 61plate, my first family car and did the job but never got any particular joy from. And now I am on to my Scala that I love more than my first Polo. I am a 3D artist and animator by profession, and my main enjoyments in life are my family and snowboarding. My car is a Scala SEL 1.0TSi 115PS 6 Speed Manual, in Moon White, Exterior Design Pack (inc Panoramic glass roof, Full LED headlamps with cornering and dynamic range control, separate daytime running lamps, extended glass tailgate), and 18" Vega Alloys. Since owning I have replaced the bonnet badge to the all black Monte Carlo style badge, added genuine Scala Alu door sills, and purchased the double sided boot floor, all parts purchased through superskoda as they were near half price compared to the dealer. I have also, already and rather depressingly, had a collision with a juvenile female (Doe) deer. Unfortunately living near the Chiltern Hills and Ashridge Estate it is one of those things that is sometimes just unavoidable. True enough, driving through the Estate late at night, a deer ran out from the woodland onto the road and, although I managed to brake and swerve, she hit my passenger side headlight and collapsed on to the bonnet. Damage is a broken bumper, headlight, wing, bonnet, and a dent in the passenger door too, fortunately it was a slow impact and airbags weren't set off and family in car were fine, just shaken. Been waiting for the parts but it's finally booked in for middle of this month and garage have agreed to swap out my chrome grille surround for the Black Magic grille surround from a Monte Carlo edition at the same time, silver linings. Will post some pics when I can. That's probably more than you need to know but nice to share and all. Thanks
