  1. No it's a pain in the butt to swap, the whole front bumper has to come off. Your MC has a black grille though doesn't it? I got mine from what was superskoda.com (now kopacek.com) but I got it before brexit so was still able to import parts hassle free. If I was looking for it now I think the best bet would be to contact Dennis Horton parts team in Lincoln. They run a specific parts website - theskodashop.co.uk - and although they don't have the Scala Black Magic grille frame on the site, they do have the version for the Kamiq, at only 60GBP which is a very good price.
  2. I remember it from the official brochure when I was making my purchase back in Feb 2020. I was trying to make a decision between the SE and SEL, the Monte Carlo wasn't for my taste. But I thoroughly read the differences in spec. The brochure has changed now but does state, on page 5 of the current Scala brochure - UK. "SPORT CHASSIS CONTROL A system of adjustable shock absorbers to improve ride and handling. With Normal mode for everyday travelling and long journeys, and Sport mode which improves the road grip in more dynamic driving conditions." I also had a conversation with Bilstein UK when ordering the coilovers, with them specifically asking me if the Scala had the electronic suspension. The coilover kit is the same for the Audi A1, VW Polo, and Seat Ibiza, all post 2018, as they all use the same components, and are all the MQB-A0 platform. Bilstein offer two 'street' coilover kits for these chassis' The EVO S and the EVO ES. Where the E stands for electronic. Matt Watson also mentions it in his Carwow review of the Scala, although he doesn't state any measurements. In the current brochure 'Drive Mode Select' is an option on all models SE and above and is 140GBP inc VAT 'Sport Chassis Control with Drive Mode Select for Towing' is and option for SEL and MC only, and is 545GBP inc VAT The only reference to the -15mm that I can now find is on the New Zealand skoda site - https://www.skoda.co.nz/models/scala/scala/scala-technology?state=OK&aid=72e2c63d-e85b-4c43-956d-e2713a1e8ee3&or=www.google.com I have to say I am very surprised the MC doesn't come with it as standard anymore, with it being marketed as the rally styled version and all. As to which specific dampers are fitted, I have no idea as I didn't go any further into it for my needs. Hope this all helps though
  3. Be careful putting it on lowering springs. As stock it does sit way too high - yes. However Eibach sport springs (-40mm) should not be run on stock shocks/dampers - they will wear them out in no time at all. I initially wanted mine to sit lower on a budget so went for the Eibach ProKit (-30mm) which are claimed to be perfectly acceptable on stock shocks/dampers. When I put them on they were perfect, exactly what I was after, lower ride, get rid of the crazy arch gap, less roll in the corners and less pitch in braking. However it took less than 6 months for the shocks to start feeling 'washy' and no where near as taught as they initially were in my opinion. So I bit the bullet and switched them out for full coilovers by Bilstein. Yes a lot more money - but my goodness me so worth it. Also when the EIbach were put on the alignment was done at the same time, but they didn't have correct measurements for new setup as it had spacers put on at same time too. My tyres rubbed out on the transition from side wall to tread very quickly from incorrect alignment causing this area to rub when turning. When I got the coilovers fitted I took it to Northampton Tyres for full laser alignment and recalibration of the ADAS (automatic driver assistance systems) to get it 100% correct. At launch in 2019 the MC did have drive mode select as standard and it was an option on other trims too I believe. What the current spec sheet is and how the crazy manufacturing delays have altered things I can't comment. Check the infotainment menu as there should be something in there in a similar category to lane assist etc. What I do know is that in 'sport mode' it would lower the suspension electronically by -15mm, so if you do have that feature again be weary of it when swapping springs or full coilovers.
  4. Recently I created my own custom diffuser for the Scala. Main reason for this is that I bought the Maxton Design rear Valance to fit to the stock lower bumper panel, and it didn't fit flush and had an overall cheap feeling to it. Sure enough after only a week it cracked, as I had put it under so much stress trying to fit it as flush as possible. Instead of spending another 100+ on a new one I decided to approach skoda for the lower rear bumper and to my amazement the whole section was only 65GBP. So decided I would rather purchase that and the materials and have a go at making a custom one. Here is my journey. I don't have pictures of the early stages but essentially I measured out the mid section of the bumper panel between the exhaust dummy ports, I then divided this up for where I wanted the diffuser fins to be, used a depth gauge to get a profile shape onto cardboard and then cut that into shape as a template. The rest is as follows Cut fin shapes out of ABS 12mm plastic using jigsaw, then use a rasp/file/80p sandpaper to refine. The 2 center and 2 outer fins were the same shape. Using masking tape to check fitment I then pre-drilled holes for standard VAG hex screws using small spring clamps, cleaned the area with isopropanol and lined the joint with Gorilla Epoxy glue and mounted the fins into position Fin mounted using screws and epoxy All fins mounted on and panel sanded down with 180P sandpaper, waiting for a small strip of ABS to arrive to extend the bumper 3mm ABS strip arrived was cut to shape and placed to extend the bumper (purpose of this is to hide underglow LED strips as bulbs were previously visible when mounted) Using U-pol Plast-X filler to fill holes, and refine the shape. This stuff stinks! Immediately took it outside. Initial pass with filler, definitely put too much on, but learning as we go. After a lot of sanding, using 80p, 180p, 340p and 420p sandpaper Excuse the dark dots, it was raining as I got it in the car to take for priming/painting. For the final stage, I got the good fold at Berkhamsted Bodyshop to use a builder primer, do a final sand pass ready for painting and the paint it in gloss piano black. Here are the results It is not perfect, and there are things I would do better second time around of course. But it is hand done, by me, fully custom one of a kind. I love it, think it looks way better than the Maxton one. Hope you all enjoy seeing the process. Oh and I am a 3D artist in his late 30s with an interest in DIY, I am by no means skilled at this type of thing, just watched some youtube tips and tried my best. If you have the time, don't be afraid to give things a go.
  5. Rear lower bumper is same part on all models, just a different finish. MC is gloss black, the rest is textured grey. I had mine custom finished in piano black. But will be sanding it right back and priming it with custom diffuser fins instead of the Maxton Valance. Will put some picks up of progress soon.
  6. There are some 1.5s in Europe with a stage1, taking it to 180BHP. A bit like the ABT edition S that has been released in Germany. Not seen any Stage1s in the UK yet though, so let me know if you manage to get REVO to do it.
  7. Here's a couple showing the spoiler. Nice bit of kit, and dead easy to install. EBC turbo grooved discs with greenstuff pads are on, they look and perform great. Also got the Maxton read valance but not a fan of it as it doesn't fit as flush as the other items from them and it just looks too 'stuck on' in my opinion. The rear lower bumper was only £60 direct from Skoda, in a primed state ready for painting, so I bought a new one and some ABS plastic to make a custom one.
  8. 😉 haha, this is a 30mm prime lens on a crop sensor so approx nifty fifty range. I had used some popcorn to lure the swans over, here they were about 4m away from camera but at closest they were about 1.5m away and I got a little nervy, not going to lie, they are aggressive at times.
  9. A couple of my efforts this morning from a frosty Leighton Buzzard lake
  10. Hi @Simcity47 I have the entire Maxton Kit on my Scala. The front splitter is awesome, and can be fitted using factory screws under front bumper, although not sure it will fit the MC. Side skirts I got bodyshop to fit as they have to be fitted to metal bodywork and I wanted to ensure they were sealed properly, again not sure these fit the MC model as there are skirts already on. Rear lip spoiler is a really nice little extension to the spoiler, piece of cake to fit and really robust. The rear skirts are easy to fit too. However the rear valance is oversized and sticks out by about 3-5mm along its length. To push it as far back as possible was awkward and actually put it under so much stress that it has snapped under a small knock. So will be doing a custom diffusor.
  11. Hi, yeah that is a plastic end cap to the end of the metal seat rails. They are very flimsy, one broke on mine when I caught it with the hoover nozzle. Really not that important and you will not miss it.
  12. Good point @skoda1982, this is also exactly why you aren't allowed to get out and show off your best 'jazz hands' too - far too dazzling 😉
  13. Hi @eScala Have you had any luck with this? I hope so I have the same 1.0TSi manual with 115PS (remapped to 150) and on occasion I have stalled by trying to save my fuel and shifting up a little too early. It's a great little engine and by nursing it you can quite easily upshift very low in the rpms, but it does require more concentration than a regular shift when above 2000rpm. I can confirm that upon stall of then engine, all one has to do is put foot flat on the clutch and it will start again. It is not required to be in neutral or at a standstill, just simply foot on clutch and back to life she comes. For stop/start to take any effect for me in my daily driving I have to be fully stopped, handbrake on and in neutral. Without all those 3 factors it simply doesn't activate.
  14. Not sure on the reason why the function is unavailable in the settings. Double pressing unlock on fob will open all doors, or holding handle for a short pause will unlock all doors too.
  15. Update Swapped out the Eibach lowering springs for full coilovers. Went with Bilstein Evo S (https://performance.bilstein.com/en/new-audi-a1-coilover-suspension-the-bilstein-evo-s/) just for the reliability of the brand. There are other options out there, Eibach, ST, KW, BC Racing, all at a very similar price point. The EVO S drops the car by 45mm all around which is a really nice fitment and guarantees driving within the threshold of the Bilstein dampers and springs. So it gives a really good solid, stiff cornering yet comfortable ride (as long as you avoid holes and take it steady over bumps naturally) When fitting coilovers at TotalVAG noticed the front tyres had uneven wear from turning right. So it needed new alignment, and the guys at TotalVAG also suggested getting the lane assist calibrated to make sure it is scanning the right driving path of the car at the new ride height. First tried Skoda for ADAS (Automatic Driving Assistance Systems) and wheel alignment, Skoda Bedford and Aylesbury didn't have the ADAS mechanics to address this on a stock car, let alone a modified one, Skoda MK did have it but it was out of service currently waiting for a replacement part however, they put me in touch with Tyres Northampton. A proper tyre performance center, great place and super helpful. They got my alignment sorted out and recalibrated the lane assist in just over an hour. Was good of the TotalVAG guys to mention this as the lane assist did need correcting on 2 axis. And I now drive with it on permanently as it works exactly as you would like it too, with only a light tug. Better than it ever was from stock in my opinion. Other updates Maxton Design rear spoiler lip added Eibach 20mm spacers moved from rear to front, and new Eibach 22mm spacers added to rear. This is due to lowering further added slightly more camber and I wanted flush fitment rather than tucked. Glowkit underglow added with custom dash switch added under AC panel so its hidden from view. Reason for adding the switch is that they are fully bluetooth and I don't like the idea of them being on without my knowledge. They are super silly I admit, but they do make for good looking winter photos, so they were added purely for shows and the gram. To come EBC turbo grooved discs with greenstuff pads are in the post thanks to black friday 15% off. Holding out for Maxton Design to announce sale on Friday to get the rear diffuser valance. Will update as and when 👋
  16. Yes, I followed a camper the other day with a great bumper sticker 'Not Drunk, Avoiding Potholes'
  17. Try Kopacek.com (formerly super-skoda.com) They are a big supplier of Skoda parts from Czech Republic. They ship to pretty much the whole world and most of the EU is free postage. Wait for Black Friday (26th Nov) as they often have 10percent off site wide. I used them a lot for original parts before the UK left the EU.
  18. Well done. I have done a fair few mods myself but that was out of my comfort zone, so bravo for having the courage to tackle and accomplish it. Stick some pics up when you can as it looks so much better with the black.
  19. Not a problem, My wife doesn't drive so the pro is I don't have to share the Scala but it doesn't really outweigh the con of having to take her, the kids and the dog everywhere they need to go (small cry). All the best
  20. Sorry bit late to this but shall share my input in the off chance it still helps anyone. @WolfyWesty pretty sure you already know my story but I shall sum up. New Scala March 2020, Collision with a female Deer, 30mph at night on a 60mph road, she just jumped out from behind some close trees. Insurance claim -3400 GBP new bumper, new LED headlight, new bonnet, new wing, plus door repair, paint and labour. Driver at fault as the Deer wouldn't accept responsibility. Car stock at this point. Insurer was Lloyds Bank, underwritter AXA, cant fault as they handled the claim effectively and quickly, even allowing to choose my own bodyshop for the work. At renewal - March 2021 I knew I wanted to do mods. Lloyds/AXA wouldn't insure the mods and standard premium went from 500GBP/annum to 700GBP/annum. Tried Chris Knot as per recommendations on this forum and they couldn't produce a quote for me based on the mods I wanted to do. Adrain Flux would insure me at just under 900BGP/annum. In the end I got some good recommendations for Greenlight. They insured me and all mods for 600GBP/annum. My model is Scala SEL 1.0TSI 115PS. Policy covers all modifications upto the power of 180PS. My modification list is getting rather big now but its as follows Performance -RacingLine Stage1 remap 150PS -Racingline Coldair intake -Longlife custom cat-back non-res exhaust -Eibach Pro-Kit springs -Eibach spacers Cosmetic -Maxton Design full lip kit -RacingLine Wiper Delete -Monte Carlo Front Grille Frame replacement -Monte Carlo Front/Rear badge replacement -Debadge- Scala -Gloss black loading protector -Genuine Mudguards -OEM alloys custom painted gloss black -OEM brake callipers painted rosso red -OEM rear bumper trim custom painted gloss black -OEM dash panel custom wrapped in brushed steel Audio -AudioControl LC7i Line Output converter -MTX component speakers in front and rear -MTX 4Ch amp under front passenger seat -MTX 12" Active Sub in boot. Of course the true test of any insurer is when you are in an incident and we all hope that doesn't happen and hopefully drive our best to help prevent such things. So on Greenlight I cannot comment on this aspect. However as for customer service and price, I have been very pleased. They also offer a nice web portal to add modifications to your policy without having to be on hold on the phone. It is assessed within the hour and they email knew documents confirming your modifications on your policy. So on this basis I would highly recommend. Cheers
  21. Greenlight sorted me out a great offer on my modified Scala. Great customer service too.
  22. Hi all, good to see some new Scala owners and a nice little community forming on the forum. @Paulwal with regards to your original query, I had the same thoughts as you when I took delivery of my Scala 18months ago (SEL with 18" Vega alloys). I talked to dealer about it and they did some investigation, their end response was that nearly all the promotional images of the Scala are of the Monte Carlo or with the chassis control option, where it is possible to select 'sport' driving mode and which lowers the ride height electronically by 15mm. So what this means is that, while you are researching and looking at nice images of a Scala you're subconscious is almost being preconditioned that it is a lower more sporty chassis than it is on most models. To alter this, you can drop it 30mm on Eibach Pro-Kit lowering springs. Here in the UK most insurers will allow you one performance modification with little to no change on your policy premium. The Eibach Pro-Kit are TUV approved for use with the standard shocks well within the tolerances of day to day driving. You can find them online direct from Eibachshop.co.uk for less than 200GBP and fitting will be 2-3 hours with new alignment included. The Pro-Kit will reduce that gap significantly and improve cornering as well as nose dive under braking. Of course they will also be stiffer and you will feel the bumps more, but they are still great for day to day driving in my opinion, and the list of pros far outweighs the cons. For some guidance, I am driving an SEL without the chassis control option on Vega 18s with the Eibach Pro-Kit -30mm springs and here are some pics. Could still easily go lower in my opinion but then you are either looking at going to Eibach Sportline springs with uprated Bilstein B6 shocks or full on coilovers, and either way it starts to get pricey. For more see my project thread here, or view @skodascalauk on instagram. Cheers, and safe journey.
  23. Hi, I had mine done at a bodyshop at the the same time as some other work, was an hours labour, but everything was kept perfectly intact and I still have the chrome grille stored in perfect condition. I have seen a few people do the swap themselves but break the clips which is not ideal if you ever wish to return it to stock.
  24. A power tailgate retrofit would be a good idea. Also a power bonnet too as the bonnet on Scala is heavy!
