Octavia 2 2010 vrs petrol instrument cluster failure
Thanks buddy! Fingers crossed for the airbag light 🤞 is dont see any reason for the light being on, apart from staying on due to the fault with the gateway module... so once reset, hopefully it will stay off 🤞

Self levelling headlight sensors
Let's talk about self levelling headlight sensors.. My car has had a bulb warning light on since I bought the car.. all lights work as they should and when I plugged vagcom in a couple years ago, it said the levelling sensors weren't working properly... I had a quick look at the front sensor today, I unhooked the little arm from the ball joint and then the arm was just flapping around like it had zero resisitance inside the sensor... is the arm meant to have resistance to it, or should it feel like it isn't connected to anything? 🤔 I need to wait for my pal with vagcom (again) to come round and plug it in to figure out which sensor is actually broken...

So, huge update here... ITS FIXED! I recieved the gateway module back this afternoon and put everything back as it should... started the car and everything seems to be working fine again! So it was definitely the gateway module that was knackered. The only lights on the dashboard now are the airbag light and the bulb warning light (i was expecting the bulb warning light as the levelling sensors are knackered) So all seems good now! Just need to try and reset the airbag light and sort the levelling sensors for the headlights, then get her booked in for MOT! HAPPY ROB 😁

Both when you use auto scan and also select car from drop down box, it says function not supported by gateway... I've had vcds connected multiple times in the past without an issue

So we've now removed the BCM and also the gateway module to check them for water ingress etc... The BCM looks brand new inside, absolute zero damage to the circuit board... Just had a look inside the gateway module and with my untrained eyes, i'm unsure if this looks correct or not (photo uploaded) It looks like there's some sort of residue on the silver part of the circuit board... 🤔 With VCDS not connecting to the car and the only message it is displaying is "function not supported by the gateway" we're fully expecting the gateway to be causing all the issues i've been experiencing (Google Gemini is pointing in that direction too, erratic lights on dash, central locking malfunctioning etc...) So i've just sourced another gateway module on ebay... brand new is £477 🤯🤯 And i'll get it cloned then see what happens then!

Yes... multiple people have now looked at the car... 2x auto electrician's 1 self employed mechanic (specialist in JDM cars, rather than VAG) And 1 pal who is quite handy with VAG's All original data pointed towards cluster failure... replaced cluster and no different. Next is to check BCM tomorrow morning Tried keeping costs down to a minimum so far, so haven't booked it into a proper garage yet

So another small update... my pal with VCDS finally came over today... we tried plugging the car in with the aftermarket head unit in and it didnt want to connect at all... disconnected the head unit, then VCDS tried to connect to the car... then it failed to connect... i've attached a photo of the message VCDS said. My other pal is going to come round tomorrow and have a deep dive on the car, he thinks it could be a faulty BCM. We still dont understand why we can't connect to the car though!

Yeah, but could it not block communications between the diagnostic computer and the ECU? The mechanic that looked at it today has spoke to the auto electrician next to his garage today and he thinks it could be the canbus block that's playing up... its starting to get well above my head now!

My dad has just been round, disconnected the battery to reset everything, the windows started working and they're now all closed 👌 car still wouldn't start though. I have a feeling there's a communications fault between the ECU and the cluster... i'm going to get it booked in with a VAG specialist and see if he can sort it. For now I will change the head unit back to the standard head unit and see if that makes any difference for the communications 👌

A matter if fact, yes... I do have an aftermarket head unit... that could be the issue... i'll have to try that! Getting my pal back with his computer could be the next issue 😅

Octavia 2 2010 vrs petrol instrument cluster failure
So, I have an update... My pal came round today with his brand new snap on computer... he plugged it in try read the car... it connected to the cluster and it said there was zero codes... but it wouldn't connect to the ECU at all... tried 3 times and it wouldn't connect... so we're currently no closer to finding out what the problem is. I think the next step is definitely get the car booked into the auto electrician's and see what they can do with it. I have a feeling like there's a connection issue between the ECU and the cluster... In the mean time... while my pal was here, he put the drivers window all the way down... now it wont come back up again! None of the windows are working off the buttons on the door... when I hold the lock button on the key fob, the window wont come back up... yet, when you hold the unlock button, the other 3 windows come down... 🤯 so now, I'm currently stuck with the drivers window fully down and the other 3 windows 2inches down 🤦♂️ how on earth do I get the windows to close?!

No update yet bud, I've been working today 😢 I'm hoping my pal comes round tomorrow with his snap on computer to see if it will read the cluster and see what its saying... fingers crossed 🤞

Hi pal, yeah, both keys lock and unlock the car off of the fob... the key that I sent away to have the cluster cloned, was the key I used first try and the car started no problem... then a hour later, I tried with my other key and that's when the immobiliser kicked in... I definitely need a diagnostic computer to see if it will read the cluster now (originally the diagnostics wouldnt connect to the cluster, but would connect to the ECU and everything else... hence going the route of cluster cloning) If my pals snap on computer wont connect to the cluster still, I think its definitely needing booked into the auto electrician to see if he can figure it out... luckily, the mechanic I use is in the same yard as the auto electrician... so if he can't figure it out, he'll take it nextdoor

Hopefully the jump pack might make the difference, but I think its highly unlikely... it definitely sounds like the immobiliser has activated and i'm unsure how to reset it (i've locked and unlocked the car a couple times and its exactly the same...) Thanks for your help, but I think its time the auto electrician gets a phonecall 😩 if i didnt like this car so much, i'd have scrapped it by now 😅😅
