  1. I have been hospitalised recently but prior to that I replaced both struts and subsequently the problem virtually disappeared. There were occasional malfunctions then more recently the old problems returned. I noticed that the tailgate button did not respond at all so replaced it. That momentarily seemed to change things bet never proper function and now it is a nightmare. does not open arm close properly. The warning beeps seem to work when to is closing properly but most of the time closes quietly then stops part open/closed. Does anyone know if there is a control unit somewhere in the circuit. I can't imagine there is an intelligent chip in the struts?
  2. Thanks Deed. I will do that as it really isn't worth the hassle. Cheers
  3. Thanks very much. Do you have to buy a pair?
  4. I had considered that having had it occur on a BMW estate some years ago. The only thing that perhaps contradicts this is the random nature of the occurrence and the fact that sometimes after reset of the opening height it works for a few goes. I'm going to take it to an auto electrician's next week.
  5. The electric tailgate has stated to malfunction. Using the key fob, rear catch or internal button it behaves very erratically. Sometimes reluctant to open but mainly opens then stops about a quarter open and when restarted stops again part way up. Plus a multitude of variations. I have reset the upper limit several times. sometimes it works OK for a couple of cycles then reverts to part opening. The struts don't seem to have any tight spots when manually moving the tailgate and I have given them some WD40. Any ideas?
  6. My car has just done 40k miles and I am amazed it still has its original brakes/pads as I am a heavy braker. Wondering what make of replacement to go for so would appreciate any guidance. historically I have upgraded to Brembo or similar but not sure this time as the OEM ones have performed well.
  7. New water pump and belt fitted; service inspection and oil change for £280. Dronfield Autocare 01246 411540. An excellent company. My go to garage for everything. They are in Dronfield, North East Derbyshire.
  8. I should have updated this earlier. My apologies. The water loss rate became greater and I could see coolant on the engine under tray. After much looking and listening with a stethoscope I could not locate the leak so took the car to my local garage. They have diagnosed a water pump leak and I became aware that the water pump is not in the usual location driven by the various pulleys. As I type it is, hopefully, being fixed and I have been quoted £210. There charges are normally VAT inclusive so it sounds like a bit of a bargain but I will save the celebrations until all is definitely sorted. My ca has only done 34,000 miles so it is as mentioned elsewhere a weak spot. Thanks to all for the contributions.
  9. Thanks Freedom. The car is a Superb Estate Sportline 280 first registered 01/03/2017 with VIN TMBME7NP7H7523987. Build date 08/01/2017 It is the right rear door and the car has Safelock. The child lock can be operated from the drivers door. Hope this helps. Cheers
  10. Update. I purchased a replacement lock from skoda-parts.com in Czechoslovakia. It was the wrong part but I had ridiculous conversation/messages with them as they claim it was correct but clearly for the left not right side. End result they can't supply it and have refunded fully after its return. I now have 2 quotes for supply by breakers but both need to know the exact part number as the VIN details do not guarantee the correct part! I will take the lock out next week to check its part number. Will keep you informed.
  11. After 2.5 years of trouble free running my Sportline 280 warned me the coolant level was low - and it was very low. Checked for obvious signs of leaks, all level and condition - nothing. I have now spent several weeks and a few hundred miles regularly topping up the coolant and checking oil quality and level. Being reasonably engine savvy I am baffled. If it was a head gasket it can leak into the cylinder and exit via the exhaust but more likely escape into the oil resulting in an increased level and emulsification. There is no apparent water pump leakage. The performance does not appear to be affected and the engine is smooth and responsive. Has anyone experienced this? Any ideas?
  12. Makes sense for a few files but I have about 100GB on my iPod.
  13. Thanks for the suggestion. I am currently going through that exercise thanks to a kind fellow Briskoda member's help. The SD card went by post yesterday so, hopefully, I will soon know if it is the card or the car or even me! Cheers
  14. In answer to geordiebloke. My Superb does have a Jukebox but it is only circa 12GB so not big enough for me and I suspect a lot of people.
  15. Thanks but I use that port for my iPod and want to free it so I can connect my iPhone for ApplePlay. I hope I will have an answer for the SD card soon. Regards
  16. Thanks BillyParker. I have had an offer to format my SD and copy some music so I can determine if it is a duff card. Once that check is eliminated I will hopefully know where I stand. It seems most people use MP3 but my understanding is it is a relatively low fidelity format. If the file have to be MP3 so be it but would prefer a higher quality. Cheers
  17. Still not able to use this card. I am wondering whether someone would be kind enough to format this SD card for me and copy some music so I can then find out if it is me, the card or the car?!!
  18. It is about 2 years since I last set up my preferences and I wanted to change the colour of the interior light background lighting. I have followed the instructions but cannot see the option to make changes. There is normally a screen with colours and brightness but I can't find it. I have, however, managed to switch the lighting off. Probably having a senior moment but can someone please help/
  19. Thanks. I am looking at replacement locks but there is a serious disparity in price although surprisingly cheap. I haven't looked at the Skoda price yet!
  20. Nearly new battery. Thanks for the advice olddog.
  21. Thanks for such a prompt response. It does not sound as you have suggested but tomorrow I am going to compare the sound from both rear doors with my stethoscope. Sounds quite expensive! Regards Roger
  22. Recently I noticed the right hand rear door did not unlock when using the key fob. After many attempts it unlocked but later reverted to not working and failing to lock on the fob. If I use the central locking switch in the car all seems to work fine. I have tried door slamming and WD40 but nothing cures the problem. It sounds as though the solenoid is not moving properly as it sometimes makes a clicking noise. What I cannot understand is why the in car button makes the lock operate every time. I know sometimes when the fob battery is low it can cause problems but I used 3 fobs including one with a new battery. I am capable of taking the door apart if I can find some basic instructions but having read a few VAG lock problems thought I'd ask the forum. Any ideas?
  23. My 5 year old wheels look OK but the plastic wheel centres do not. There are loads available on Amazon or eBay but I suspect the bargain ones will not last long. The Skoda ones are quire expensive so I wonder whether anyone has experience of buying replacements?
  24. Reformated in DOSfat but still can't read it in the car. Tried to find the Columbus Manual in the Skoda site but can't see a separate mention from the normal car manual and that does not explain much!
