This was a strange one I noticed the car smelt of oil. So I've checked the water and oil the last few weeks and there all fine no leaks nothing. I changed the pollen filter it was black. I put a brand new filter in but still the oil smell. I worked out the smell like oil was coming from the heaters. But due to the warmer weather we had for a while I've mainly used the cold and aircon settling and opening windows. So I thought I put the hot setting on today as the weather changed there was no heat but still this smell of oil. So I left the hot setting on for 10mins and the heat come through in the end and the smell now gone.

The skoda fabia engine bay water drains shuttle panel area. So can you see the drains on each side or will you need to take the shuttle panel of to see its clear? Thanks

I've had 3 gear boxes go in the past due to the gear oil going thick and old. I always change the gear oil since then 20 years later all gear boxes I've had so far have been fine. You get problems changing gears either colder weather or hotter weather which I get sometimes. I notice the difference straight away if you change the oil at this point. It fixes this problem but if you leave it the gearbox will go as in the past 3 of them.

Update waiting for the glow plugs to arrive since the 18th December 2023. The seller not reply so had to make a claim through paypal and got my money back ebay. I will have to re order again now somewhere else.

The gearbox oil comes up as fully synthetic. There seems to be 2 options 75w80 or 75w90? How much does the gearbox require from empty to full? There a guide where the topping up gear oil is and gear oil level? I always like to change the gearbox oil as it's something a lot of people don't know about or change. Skoda fabia 1.4 tdi Thanks

I noticed in the colder weather it's getting a bit harder to start. So the glow plugs need changing soon. It starts up fine the rest of the time. I see the part number for NGK NGKY-741U? There plenty of room in front of the skoda fabia 1.4 tdi engine. There people saying spray them over night with wd40 and others saying warm the engine up? Thanks

Hello The speed heater setting number 1 does nothing. But 2 3 4 all work so I'm thinking it's the heater resistor? There any guides on here and location? Where the cheapest place to get a resistor from? It's been like this since I've owned the car 3 years ago. I might have ago fixing it depending how easy it is and how much the resistor are to. Thanks

Hello I changed my alternator recently and it fixed the problem. When checking the Aux Alternator Belt Tensioner pully wheel it only spins around one full spin by hand. So should it spin around a lot more the pully bearing wheel on these? The pully wheel doesn't spin much that's why I thought the bearing might be warn. It helps to stop all the crap going back in to the engine causing blockages from the exhaust system egr valve. This is why we bypass the egr valve my engines are cleaner and smoother long term tried and tested over 12 years now. This also eliminates future problems on modern cars with egr valves.

I had to change the hole alternator in the end. The bearings in the pully where noisy when spinning by hand. Then the regulator or brush pack had gone as well. I got a good deal in the end new alternator free postage and £85 with 3 year warranty. I think there a surcharge I might get £35 back just waiting on this.

I looked in to all this with winter here I thought changing one part anther might go anther time soon due to mileage 166000miles. So for the sake of £85 with 3 year warranty it was a lot easier due to my work business. very busy at the moment. The battery light staying on longer now so it was time to get this changed asp.

90amp £85 and the 120amp £185. I can get free postage or collect down the road and £33 cash back which is a good deal if it's the 90amp one. The regulator £22 and the brush pack about £25. Mileage nearly 166,000miles.

I've fixed the reverse lights now the wires broken on the switch. It was near where I fixed the window connector in front of the gear box. I've checked the wires and connector on the alternator they all look in good condition. I did anther test today using a cig lighter charger showing the amps while driving. When the battery light off it charges 14.5v. But soon as the light comes on it will drop to 12.5v to 13v. Then when the light off back to 14.5v So this sounds like it's the alternator now? I'm looking on gsf car parts there seems to be 2 alternators 90amp and 120amp? Thanks

The reverse censer wires have broken due to the plastic cover. I will have to fix these 2 wires wander if this could cause a problem? I've fixed the other wires near the gearbox which sorted the windows and charging up last year.

New update when the main beam 2nd click on light switch. The lights are switched on the battery light doesn't come on it stays off. But when the lights are of and just side lights the battery light still comes on and off.

Exciter wire is that the big thick black wire?
