  1. No, the Crateris wheels remain in production, however the Proxima wheels are replacing 16" Lyra and these will not be available anymore, just as a spare part for a certain time.

    Regarding the 3-spoke MFSW for manual gearbox, according to informations from Skoda, 3-spoke MFSW for radio and radio+phone was postponed to 45th production week of 2010. The 3-spoke MFSW for DSG is in production without any restriction.

    That's a shame!

    Just had a thought - is the 3 spoke MFSW leather?

    I'm just wondering - having seen some of the samples on how to install these kits (such as around the spare wheel well) I'd love to know if I could get it installed somewhere.

    I'm in Ireland but wouldn't be surprised if I had to travel to the UK to find someone.

    Anyone who can recommend someone to me and how much it might cost?

  3. All manufacturers seem to have had DMF problems to some extent. I'm new to Skoda so am unaware of any issues, but I know that Ford had major problems. The more powerful models and vans were worst. Toyota also were prone to failures, particularily the Rav models.

    The DMF issue, to a certain extent, influenced my decision to buy an Automatic. Someone will probably now tell me that the DSG system has inherent problems!

    Sorry, but I believe the DSGs have a DMF as well! It's a slightly different arrangement, but is still a dual mass thingy that can also play up.

  4. I had a similar noise, only lasted for a few minutes, happened as I approached a friend's house at the end of an unmade road. My first thought was the exhaust had come loose and was dragging on the ground, but the exhaust was fine. He popped into my car so we could go for a short drive to try and work out what it was, and as we reversed out of his drive it was still there, but it went as we pulled off. It suddenly came on and suddenly went - the only thing I could think it was was a stone caught behind a brake disc/caliper shield - I would check this first.

    Says it all really. Glad I've gone for the 1.4 tsi over the 1.6 tdi for my new octy, especially given my frequent short driving trips.

I have the 1.9 pd manual estate - I do around 7500 miles per year, mostly short stop/start trips (to and from work, 3 miles each way, all urban; various other short trips from 1 mile to 10 miles) but also a few longer trips. Brim to brim average is 43.5, right on the claimed urban figure. Long runs get me 50 to 60 mpg, but the short trips to and from work on their own are mid 30s, hence the 43.5 average. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the 1.9pd. I don't know economy figures for the 1.6 fsi, buit I can't see it anywhere near matching the diesel and it won't have nearly as as much pulling power.

    I can get two big adults plus a child seat in the back, bit tight width wise, don't know what it is like with 3 adults.

  7. Think it will depend on the type of journey you do. If mainly town driving etc then you're only going to get low 30s, but if you do longer journeys, will prob be high 30s.

    I've just ordered a 1.4 dsg and do mostly short journeys - I expect to average around 35, which is the published urban figure. I currently have the 1.9 pd and average 43.5 in that - exactly the published urban figure. I get much higher on long runs, but my majority driving of short journeys keeps the average down. I don't use a heavy foot either.

  8. Difference between the 1.4 and 1.6 dsgs is the same as the manual, so overall the 1.4 tsi dsg would save £435 ish over the 1.6 dsg (dsg 1.6 slightly more economical on paper than manual, so would be a bit less than £435).

    Is it the initial purchase price of the 1.6 dsg that's the problem?

  9. Don't know what mileage you do, but the diesel will be cheaper on fuel - I've had the dilemma of 1.4 tsi or 1.6 tdi myself, coming from a 1.9 pd. I do 7500 miles per year, mostly short journeys - I would save around £250 a year with the diesel in fuel, so this would be around £400 for 12000 per year. I went with the 1.4 tsi because I didn't want the potential hassle of the dpf (my short journeys would probably clog it quite often). If you do mostly long runs, the dpf won't be a problem. Mine's a company car, so the 1.4 saves me £70 a year BIK.

    I'm heartened by all the positive comments in this thread (and others!) about the 1.4 - I'm looking forward to getting it. Ordered last week, need it for 10th August, getting worried this might not be achieved.

  10. Does the dealer know you know about this issue?

    If not, just feign ignorance and complain when you notice they're not foldable. Be exasperated and extremely disappointed, show him the Jan 2010 brochure, and 'what are you going to do about it?' 'it's not good enough' etc etc. See if he offers anything. If he doesn't, ask him why they're not there then maybe show him the April 2010 brochure and get him to give you £180 for accessories.

    Glad I ordered mine more recently - I specced them as optional extras.

  11. The road noise on my PD estate has been greatly reduced by laying 'sound proofing' backed carpet (£20 from Ebay) under the estate boot mat & underneath the back seat base. The soundproofing under the rear seat base made the biggest difference, to my ears anyway.

    Could you let me know how easy this is to fit? What is involved in getting acces to these two places? I've got the variable boot floor.

  12. I test drove both a 1.8 manual and a 1.4dsg as well as the 2.0 PD and CR diesels before I made up my mind, both from Meadens in the New Forest. The best drive of them all was the 1.4dsg estate which was the smoothest car I have ever driven and there was probably more than enough pulling power, but I didn't want to get anything much slower than my current Alfa which is why I choose the 1.8, and the DSG actually improves the mpg and its faster on paper than the VRS diesel. This will be my first Skoda and although the mpg is not as good as the diesel you can still only get the rougher PD engine in anything other than a VRS and I don't do enough miles to cover the additional cost of the car.   13. My battery lasts about 2 to 2 1/2 hours if I'm lucky, despite Navman claim of 5 hours!

    If I accelerate suddenly, it can fall out so I need to get on with making the base.

    I might consider one of these satnav weighted mats that you just plonk on the top of the dash and the satnav fits on top using its sucker mount, but using the dash recess is neater.
