  1. Personally I think plug in hybrids only make sense as company cars where they get low BIK %. They tend to be a lot more expensive than their normal ICE counterparts. You’ll only reap the rewards if you do a lot of miles and they’d have to be the right length journeys.
  2. It’s tempting to go with something more established even if it’s slightly less flash. I saw someone else has now gone for Tiguan which is probably closer to the golf 7.5.
  3. I actually cancelled my Octavia order and went for a V60 that arrives later this month. I have a fondness for Skoda as my first car was a Fabia mk1 that only needed a new alternator in 12 years of ownership. Hope they can resolve all these issues with the new Octavia.
  4. Received my holding deposit back. They cancelled the order with absolutely no pushback (it was a distance sale so they had no choice). Did make me wonder though, did they know it was a long way off being fulfilled? Or perhaps too good a deal (I didn’t think so personally). Have placed an order for a V60 I should get next month. Time will tell if I regret it as I was looking forward to the Octavia.
  5. I cancelled my order today. Never received a build week despite placing order 4th December. Been a bit put off by these teething problems with the infotainment of all seemingly all VAG cars being released at the moment.
  6. The golf owners have not been fans. The buttons are not illuminated so can’t see them in the dark. Maybe they’ve fixed that on this model.
  7. I ordered a 1.5 manual hatch SEL with a few options (camera, hud, led pack and travel assist). Was quoted 8 weeks until build date and then May for delivery. I’ve had two updates to say there is no build date yet...
  8. Wouldn’t the best thing to do be to test drive the various versions? Then you can compare with your Mk3?
  9. Defo sympathise with your position. If you could keep us updated with what you go for as an alternative in the end that would be great.
  10. I ordered 4th Dec and no build week still. Not a VRS though. I was advised May so that is still possible.
  11. I think these things all go by lots of different names even within OEMs. Not sure what predictive cruise control is (I think it might be it also looks at road signs and slows down when you enter a slower area?), but adaptive lane assist I think puts you in the middle of the lane. Anyone know for sure?
  12. I posted the screenshot from the website earlier. It’s cameras that give you more advanced lane assist and cruise control,
  13. Did you spec the Travel Assist option? That’s what gives you the traffic sign recognition.
  14. It’s going to depend where you live and what options. If no other options there might be a few race blue with the beige as that’s quite a standard combo I’d imagine already allocated. I order a 1.5 manual SEL hatch with a few options on 4th December. Still no build week yet. I was quoted an estimate of May when I ordered.
  15. My point was that I think it’s to do with whether you have the traffic sign recognition feature which is in the traffic assist option in the UK, if you have that you should have traffic sign recognition. Can’t be regulatory because plenty of cars in the UK have this feature and I drove one recently.
  16. In the UK at least you have to have the travel assist option in order for the HUD (and sat nav) to show traffic signs.
  17. Thanks for answering my completely unrelated question! Do you need the travel assist option then to make the most of the sat nav? Have you tried android auto or CarPlay yet?
  18. That sounds frustrating. Do you have an SEL first edition or a normal SEL? I have one on the way in May I wondered if the normal SEL does indeed having power folding mirrors. Can’t find anywhere definitively!
  19. I think the SEL is half leather/half microseude by default with the option to go full leather. I read somewhere you don’t get the dashboard covered in microsuede if you go the full leather route so I stuck with the default. Our vRS for some reason is not getting the alcantara seats with massage function option that seems to be available in most other regions. Can’t be a RHD thing because Ireland is getting them.
  20. Seat materials is such a can of worms. Expect a pile on by those that swear by leather/cloth/microsuede! I suppose it depends on how you use it, whether you have kids and if they eat/drink in car, where you live and if you have certain options eg heated or ventilated seats etc
  21. Everyone? I think this is really a car OEM/dealer issue. Because of the type of goods manufactured I don’t think this happens a lot in other sectors. I think companies could do better but clearly I’m naive and we should accept it as it’s what everyone does... I know you don’t buy from carwow but when you get the offer back from carwow there is a list of features that are standard for the trim and the options you added so most consumers would think what you have specified and the offer you get back are linked. I do agree that sometimes the specs are sometimes wrong/out of date on there with impossible combinations etc.
  22. This is all very true. We have to remember that the dealers aren’t Skoda. I still think what Skoda is doing is wrong and it’s at best laziness and at worst deliberate deception and it would be good if there was a way of pulling them up on it. in the meantime I think the best thing is to get the dealer to commit to a very precise spec in writing. If they don’t want to do that you can then not buy or take your chances. When you spec on carwow it has a restively detailed specification, I wonder whether you could partly rely on that if you went through that website? Or is there small print there too?
  23. I have a polo which was a bit annoying into 1st and 3rd for the first 500 miles or so and now it’s a dream. I would put as many miles on the car relatively quickly (hard to do during lockdowns) and then if it’s really not better go back to the dealer as soon as possible. With anything car wise if it’s new it’s best to deal with it ASAP as you have more rights.
  24. That’s good to know. If the only thing missing is the mythical boot release I may try and squeeze for some accessories. To be fair I had test driven the mkIV elsewhere so this transaction is completely distance sold so I have the right to return the car within 14 days of delivery without any reason.
  25. I plan on asking for money off for features they don’t fulfil. Especially ones listed on the actual order form... I haven’t been given a build week yet but at the start of December when I ordered it was estimated to be sometime in May(!). I see some VRS models ordered then are being delivered in March so maybe it will be sooner.
