  1. Gosh those mclarens look awesome going round Monaco
  2. At least the GP hosts are flexible enough to maintain the calendar; shame about the Turkish GP with that mad turn 8.
  3. Update: my mechanic says he’s had a look at it and is 99.9% sure that it’s a linkage issue. I’m very relieved as the dreaded words ‘replacement dual mass flywheel clutch assembly’ were mentioned. I’m also told that once upon a time this little lot cost north of £900. He also mentioned that the gearboxes don’t break in the Superbs, although I have read some horror stories that contradict that on this forum.
  4. I just think Lewis applies himself differently which makes him a world beater. He has his haters, but so did Schumi. I’m no fanboy of his but our mothers were best friends at primary school in the 60s. They’re still in touch and Lewis’ mom described how they had absolutely nothing while he was young so a nice story really, not unlike the paid drivers like Mazespin and others which is what is completely wrong with F1 today but like camelspyder says, it’s a business not a sport.
  5. Yes 👆 Think this is inevitable although my theory I mentioned in an earlier post has now evolved somewhat this weekend : Bottas to lose his seat mid-season, Russell to jump in it, Lewis to retire while he’s on top end of the season and to pursue outside interests, Ocon to Mercedes. Don’t forget there’s history between Max & Esteban - seeing them in similar machinery will be fascinating. Just like to mention that although Checo pulled a very nice move on the outside of Alonso, I reckon he’s been found out. Can’t see him being demoted to Alpha Tauri either. 4 races in and I’m talking about the driver Merry go round 🤪
  6. Thought I’d bump this dusty thread. F1 2020 on Xbox One GT: DJ Swipez
  7. Many, many thanks for the suggestions - as I can just about check the dipstick and change a wheel, I shall be asking my ‘new’ mechanic all these questions; I sacked off my old go-to guy whom I’ve known since 1982 after I worked out that mechanics are either lazy or don’t have the time to do the job properly. What’s worrying though is that the last thing he said to me is that most mechanics these days don’t touch clutches or gearboxes…
  8. Sorry, it’s a manual and recently had a service with all fluids replaced.
  9. Drove over 400 miles up and down the M5 and all over Somerset/Devon last BH weekend during a mini-break. To say the Superb is a motorway cruiser is a massive understatement, complete joy to drive. The mpg was also fantastic! However, after stopping at the entrance to the holiday park after 150 miles for 10 minutes while we booked in, with the engine running, I couldn’t engage 1st or 2nd gear. This also happened on the way back. I’ve noticed that if I select 3rd or reverse, the rest of the gears work okay. Gearbox has been very sticky this week during the commute to work and back. My last motor needed a new slave pump due to it leaking so was wondering if it could be that; I had a horrible Vauxhall and the gearbox died on me with 126,000 on the clock and that familiar whining sound under the bonnet I’ve convinced myself I can hear again on the Superb… with only 87,000 on the clock. Surely the gearbox should last at least twice as long? All feedback totally appreciated
  10. Totally get why people prefer some commentators to others. I like Ben Edwards but love Brundle; the season opener in Bahrain, Crofty asked him to go through the lap whilst onboard (Gasly?). His knowledge of the corners astounded me to the point where I took his advice and applied it the Xbox game online - I came first out of 18 other drivers far better than me. His little anecdotes are highly amusing, too: Drive To Survive season one when Bottas crashes - “that’s not going to polish out, is it?” and my favourite, “ambition over adhesion”. Anyway, looking forward to Barcelona, then it’s 3 weeks until the yawn-fest that is Monaco where I only watch the qualifying. They really need to get over this ‘jewel in the crown’ dross when Liberty are trying to attract viewers and get rid of this GP in my opinion.
  11. That’s fair enough My gf and I love football and I like the darts + IPL too so we don’t mind paying for the monthly subscription. I know we’re lucky enough to afford something like that and I was having a rant at the C4 coverage; to consider my whole BH weekend holiday was (secretly) based around it, I was truly disappointed.
  12. Each to their own. I compared C4 to the BBC back in ‘09. Jake Humphrey, Eddie Jordan, Jonathan Legard & MB, an excellent team. They even brought back in Fleetwood Mac’s The Chain as the intro theme. I just feel C4 had something to build on and they fluffed it with what, in my opinion, I’d call a tongue-in-cheek approach.
  13. Going slightly off track (geddit?), I had to endure the UK terrestrial Channel 4 coverage of the race due to being on holiday in a static caravan. Firstly I had to avoid the result for 5 hours, then sit through Steve Jones’ drivel - he’s a good, passionate presenter but it’s like he doesn’t take F1 seriously yet it is the pinnacle of motorsport. Then there’s DC who couldn’t remember the drivers’ names on track and quite frankly I can’t trust anyone who wears a tee underneath a blazer. Then there was Channel 4’s equivalent of Ted Kravitz (who I don’t like at the best of times), calling Checo the ‘tyre whisperer’. Finally, after the opening laps I thought it was about to get really tasty… and the adverts came on. I’m not being a Sky snob but the terrestrial coverage has got to get its act together IMO. As for the race itself : right there’s the blueprint for the rest of the season
  14. With the warmer weather recently, my interior lights have started working again! presume this is the looms underneath the passenger seat drying out, be interesting to see what happens when it’s inevitably wet again.
  15. I nearly gave up on F1 at the start of the turbo-hybrid era. Flat, boring races without even the sound of a decent engine exhaust, yet the first 2 races this season have been EXCELLENT!
  16. Completely agree. I’d say as early as Spain, even. Mercedes haven’t dominated the sport for 7 years for no reason; the inevitable will happen. Do you guys think that it will be a level playing field in 2022 with the massive overhaul or will we see the usual results?
  17. Very interesting piece by Will Buxton on Alpha Tauri https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.buxton-believe-the-hype-alphatauri-are-going-to-thrill-this-season.6aopPjZO5gy74JkjkTIoyP.html Hopes that this season can be a belter, who’d argue after the opener?
  18. Yup, cracking opener that made me contradict myself after one measly race: Vettel’s past it, Alonso isn’t. I hope the Red Bull can maintain this kind of pace over Mercedes this season as it’s refreshing and about time Max & Lewis fought wheel to wheel in similar machinery. Noticed an earlier post about Gasly going to Alpine in ‘22. Sounds like a very good fit as I’ve read somewhere (not on social media) that Ocon & Russell will be at the silver arrows next year as Lewis pursues outside interests and Bottas’ contract won’t be extended (back to Williams?).
  19. That green on the engine cover is awful, end of. Purists will say it resembles the Italian flag; what, like the faded-in maroon towards the tail of the car? Only hope their straight line speed is colossally faster.
  20. That’s very kind of you, thank you!
  21. Love the idea of so much racing this season, even if it takes its toll on the teams. The logistics must be mind boggling. I hate this hiatus in between seasons, just hope that the ‘21 season will be a good one!
  22. Emissions were all good last MOT. Only minor thing is the garage said they didn’t know if the cam belt had been changed or not. It was recommended for the mileage of the car and I think £250 + labour and a water pump is very good value.
  23. Service done. Only fault was a slightly worn brake pad. Mechanic said that the car and this model itself, are “solid”. Happy days!
