Is it worth having a rear wiper on a 2020 Octavia Hatch?
No legal requirement to even have a back window (hence panels at the back on many estate cars, car-vans, regular vans etc.

Is it worth having a rear wiper on a 2020 Octavia Hatch?
MK4 SE FE owner without a rear wiper and I can assure you they are not needed at all. Any standing rain water disperses while you're driving and/or burns up within minutes using the rear heater. If it rains while you're driving it doesn't gather anyway. Don't waste your money. Every car I have had before this had a rear wiper, but I could seriously count on two hands how many times I've bothered ever using the wipers over two decades of driving.

Mine is currently at the dealers, where it was agreed to leave it for a few days for testing. I'm already told further software updates have been applied. No idea of any reference numbers, but it is only a few weeks since 97EQ was applied, so that suggests to me either: * Particular updates are only applied depending on the issue being presented. * There have been updates released in the last couple of weeks. I'm told my issues haven't been seen since the newer updates were applied, although the MySkoda app appears to show the car has only had one 'trip' since I dropped it off, so no idea how thorough the testing has been. I have no idea if starting the engine counts as a trip, or if the car must be in motion to log it as a trip, but in any case the car appears to have been in use for a 1hr trip which only covered 4 miles with an average speed of 4mph, so possibly had several trips up and down the road at slow speed while the infotainment was being toyed with.

Has anyone who has been contacted (I have not) been given any suggested resolutions or timescales for anything? I do find it annoying they have my details but no contact, but at the same time I'm not after a hug and a mug of cocoa from them, I either want my car sorting immediately or have it bought back or replaced. Anyone else having the thought they will just stall on us for months, in a bid to make returning the cars more difficult or impossible? Incidentally, mine remains all over the place despite its recent software update (including exhibiting a parking sensor issue, which is a new one after the update!) so is to be left at the dealer for several days for a 'thorough investigation'. So the current software update is not a fix.

I've had three days of use out of my car (1.5 SE F.E.) since receiving the 97EQ update and can report on it fairly now I think. It definitely has improved the stability of the infotainment system, in that I have been able to login each time without fail or delay, and have not experienced any of the totally blank screens etc from the past, no lengthy waiting on user profiles, no Skoda logo hanging about on the screen forever etc. Android Auto is also a lot more stable, it has connected every single time I have started the car, which it has never done from day one. The system is not however without errors, and so far I have experienced the following: • A Stop/Start system failure error message when I started the car. I had never once received this message before, the Stop/Start system however still operated despite briefly displaying this message. • No climate control +/- icons or temperature displayed after one start-up. This I only noticed when I went to adjust the temperature while driving, and I had to stop and reset the system to be able to do so. • No climate control direction adjustment icons (i.e. window, face feet, floor) were displayed after one start-up, again I had to stop and reset this in order to use it. • A Background Lighting menu icon always appears on start up now, which was not present before, but is actually blank/unusable if you click on it (I presume this is a buried option for something that is not accessible on my trim) then disappears after a while. So in summary, the software update has brought some stabiity, but three errors and one bizarre unusable menu item over three days demonstrates that the update is not a cure-all. If anyone has suffered stability or any issues then I'd encourage you look into your dealership conducting an update, but they clearly are not there yet with fixing everything. Will report likewise to HJ.

It was Lookers but I only got the link after booking in by telephone, it was more a check-in actually. I didn't have the MPH/KPH issue to start with, so can't comment on that.

97EQ update was done today, I've used the car three times since and not had a repeat of any of the previous issues. That is definitely unheard of for me, I have been experiencing a minimum of one problem per day if used a few times. Android Auto connected bang on within about 20 seconds each time too, none of the frequent resetting needed to get it working. Will give it this full weekend of use before drawing a firm conclusion and will report back again, and (if no more issues) will report likewise to Honest John.

Oh p.s.... The Skoda Recall website says there are no recalls for my vehicle when I search on its VIN, yet the dealer online booking portal says the software update is a recall...

I'm booking the car in via an online system and it confirms the update is to 97EQ-S Service Packet.

Got mine booked in this week to have the Infotainment looked at, have been advised an update is available and will be applied. No idea if that means a series of updates, or just the latest (that may supercede all previous updates...don't knoe if that works the same as mobile apps, i.e. if you bought a one year old phone it would only add the latest app updates, not all the seperate updates done in the last year). Will see what happens and use the vehicle over the weekend before making a judgement.

I have no idea what to think if this doesn't fit into being an MKIV, given my impression is that this is the all new vehicle. Like I say, sold as an SE First Edition, only had it since December. Photo as requested.

I have zero idea! All I can say is it's a 1.5 SE First Edition, bought new in December.

No worries. Funnily enough, my settinga does not have a Hardware Information option, on mine it is System Information. I also have nothing labelled as Software Version, on mine I have just Version Number but presume it is the same. So, my details are: Part: 5E3035869 H/W 096 Version Number 0891 I checked the KPH/MPH just now and confirm it still definitely works for me (no satnav on my car however, if that helps). Funnily enough everything worked okay while I was just in the car, Android Auto also connected, and radio playing, yet on the virtual display was the message 'Starting audio' despite the radio being on already. My usual list of randomised issues as reported to HJ is: * The screen stays black and never loads up. * The user profile loading message appears but never moves on. * When trying to use climate control a message appears saying the ignition must be on to use the feature, despite that the engine is actually on. * Pressing climate control buttons will not change the temperature * Text will appear on screen but no icons will load up * Message appears saying Front Assist is not available * Android Auto will not connect despite the fact the screen shows the mobile phone as available * Skoda logo (load screen?) will appear and not go away. Also, some days the Skoda logo will load up when switching on, but most of the time it does not. I also sometimes am getting the Front Assist not working message, but to be honest that has always been on minus temperature days and I figured it is just the sensor unable to operate due to that (even with the windscreen defrosted). I also get the warning about driving in the centre of the lane, but I have that pegged as an over-sensitive system rather than a software issue. It also only happens on rubbish country roads, on which I usually have lane assist disabled or the wheel is pulling you all over the place.

Collective Action Octavia First Edition
Hi all, Fellow 1.5 FE owner. I've added this in the KPH thread, but wanted to add my voice here to say HJ has my details to add to the communication going to Skoda. I am also going to book in with the dealer, to at least give them the chance to say they can't find an issue and cannot fix it! I'm prepared to go down the route of requesting it be rejected if it comes to it, but it is a fab car beyond the infotainment issues so my preference is a fix to be honest. I would also ask people with even the slightest issue raise it with HJ though. It has taken my three months of ownership to really establish the catalogue of ridiculous issues and that they are neither going away by themselves, but neither do I have the will to have to go through the farce of doing resets and engine switch-offs etc every third time I fire the engine up and something goes wrong on the screen.

KPH/MPH
Hi all, Fellow 1.5 First Edition owner, with all of the same problems previously listed (except the KPH issue, mine switches between KPH/MPH without issue) and at least one issue I don't think has been listed in this thread - I sometimes get a message saying the climate control is not available unless the ignition is switched on. I get this message while driving... I have also emailed Honest John, who is adding me to the list of peeps, pending receipt of my details.
