u140000 fault code mk3
Yesterday i was driving on the motorway on a hot day with a lot of stop start traffic. Near the end of my journey i saw the EML and 'coil' symbol appear on the dash. I've never seen either before. The car went into limp home mode with some power but very much restricted. I pulled over, turned off the ignition and ran my OBD scanner. It picked up a code of u140000 which appears to be a potential electrical / alternator fault. The manual seemed to suggest it could be a glow plug fault but then I've seen other info online saying the "coil" error which appears to be a glow plug error is actually a few different faults when combined with a check engine light. After scanning the fault, clearing the codes and restarting the car I've not had any further issues. Last night i read that it's sometimes a MAF sensor that triggers this fault so this morning i changed the air filter as i haven't had a service yet this year and I'm not totally sure the garage did it last year during the service (i usually do the servicing myself.) Drove home tonight at 70 with no issues. At times I'm getting the dpf notification but it appears to clear and I've not so far had the proper dpf errors. Has anyone had this error or can shed any light on this? I've replaced 3 out of 4 glow plugs fairly recently but struggled to remove the pressure sensor glow plug so far and so this is the original at 120k+ miles.

Sudden loss of steering
Just wondering if anyone has experienced this or similar; The other day I was driving at about 5 mph on a very bumpy forest track, both off camber and rutted. I was also going slowly round a corner while this terrain was in play, then all of a sudden the steering complete locked, as though the key had been taken out. The engine was still on and we were still moving forward, the brakes still worked but i had absolutely no steering. I was wondering if this was some kind of safety / damage prevention thing? I wasn't ragging it at all, and didn't take the corner at speed, but the terrain was a bit mad (pot hole, camber, corner) probably on both wheels. I haven't had any issues since, and took it really easy on the way home just in case it was more serious. I've had similar experiences in a Peugeot before where the engine went into a shut off mode when I tried to drive up a 1 in 4 hill, so I'm just wondering if this is a thing on the Octavia.

Water in doors?
Just had this problem for the first time on passenger rear door, this door has a dodgy seal on the door as it's already popped out once and I've reseated it. I emptied about a litre of water out yesterday after hearing it sloshing about. Can anyone recommend a vendor for the "modified door seals" that I've seen mentioned on the forum?

Best insurers for remaps
I thought I'd see what adrian flux could do with a stage 1 remap...came in at £900 which is more than double my current premium (non-remap.) Are there any other insurers who specialise in modified cars? I was hoping to get a stage 1 but can't justify nearly a grand a year just for insurance!

VRS TDI pressure sensor glow plug
Any tips on where to get one? Euro car parts haven't had any for a (reasonable price) for a year or two, i did find a site selling them but they are now on backorder. Cheers

Smartlink activation in south west UK
Hi, Has anyone had their smartlink activated in Bristol (or south west / nearby) ? Heritage Bristol just quoted £395 for this, which from other posts looks to be way higher than before (around £150.) Is this the only option? Seems a shame to have such great functionality and then have to pay such a lot for it to be enabled. Thanks

Tailgate button water ingress
So i've had 1 failed tailgate button, and a bit of a nightmare replacing it myself (various incorrectly supplied buttons, lots of sending back etc.) until one of the forum members hooked me up with a new one that fits and works. Since replacing, the new button was working fine until I went to the carwash. I'm guessing that when the guy did the pre-wash with the power washer he blasted a lot of water at the button. Initially the button didn't work, but then started working again and I forgot about it. I realise now that the previous one failed after going through the car wash (i've only taken the car through a car wash about 3 times since i bought it.) So I was wondering if anyone could recommend some sealant that I can use to put around the button housing, so that water doesn't get in and **** it up (again!)

Replacement tow hook(s) needed
Got stuck in some mud today and realised I don't seem to have the tow hooks for my car. Car is second hand and didn't come with a tyre or tyre kit so I've already bought all of that but that didn't include a tow hook. So, are there usually 2 tow hooks, one for front and one for back or is it just for the back? Could anyone recommend a good source for these? I've seen loads on eBay but always a bit sceptical about ebay for certain products. Cheers

DSG 6 speed oil & filter change cost
Down south?! Thanks, that's all very helpful to know!

DSG 6 speed oil & filter change cost
I've been looking at getting a DSG oil & filter change done soon(ish) for my VRS TDI 2.0 6 speed wet box but i'm a bit surprised by the cost differences. A local transmission specialist has quoted £350 whereas the local Skoda dealer is charging £285. I've read some other posts where people have said that the dealerships don't usually bother changing the gearbox oil filter, which I think i'd probably want done. Do these quotes seem consistent with current prices elsewhere? I saw some posts from a few years back where a DSG service was £190ish so it's quite a big jump up but then everything has increased in price over the past few years.

Glow plug replacement
I don't think you can spray penetrating oil into the glow plugs with the electrical connector on top, because the connectors have rubber plugs attached to them that help to protect the space from debris. They are easy enough to remove with a pair of small needle nose pliers (gently!)

Boot latch not working
I also have the same problem. Were you able to find the right part and fit it?

Glow plug replacement
Yeah, the tighten them up and then undo them method worked well for me. Sounded horrible but went without a hitch. That's what guy in the second video suggested and it worked a treat. I don't think it's that it's hard, it's just that the chance of breaking them is reasonable and costly.

Glow plug replacement
You need to remove the connection from that plug before you can get to the glow plug head. Is that what you mean? You also need a decent socket extender and deep socket head to get the socket wrench down into the glow plug mount but this also helps with access. Mine was about a foot long. I watched 2 different videos on this and they were both really helpful. This guy's method for undoing stuck plugs worked perfectly for me. https://youtu.be/BJkltDdSYV8
