  1. I had a fault code for glow plug 4 which I finally sorted this week, without snapping the old plug! I've been reading elsewhere online that it's recommended that you replace all glow plugs at the same time. I can't fully see the logic of this, as 1 has failed, and now all are working again. Surely it's better to replace as they fail, so that way if your car makes it another 100k then you've got a range of glow plug ages so they won't all fail at once. What's the general thinking here? Is it good to replace them all anyway for better starting/dpf regens? Car seems happier starting now, but i did also do fuel and air filter.
  2. Thanks, so are the genuine plugs VAG / skoda plugs or another manufacturer?
  3. Yeah i know it's glow plug 4 but other advice i had read said to replace them all if mileage is 100k+ Will have a go at testing with multimeter
  4. Yes the fault code is P067400 I've not taken them out but thinking it might be Bosch (just a guess!)
  5. Hi, I am getting a repeated orange engine light for glow plug voltage drops, and with the car at 102k it seems likely that i will need a whole new set of glow plugs. I've seen advice that recommends buying OEM replacements, but i can't find OEM versions anywhere. Euro car parts have Bosch plugs, are the Bosch versions of comparable quality to OEM? Thanks
  6. All of a sudden my boot handle doesn't open from the standard central locking unlock but does open when i hold the boot unlock mode. Is this a key configuration change or as s result of a broken boot handle mechanism?
  7. Sunny side... Intrigued as to your next question!
  8. I just finished a pretty crappy drive (4 hours instead of usual 1 hr 15 mins.) There was an hour long tailback on the motorway with lots of stop start, after about 20 minutes i got 2 tyre pressure warnings at once. This isn't the first time I've had rogue TP warnings so i left the motorway at the nearest junction; checked all tyres and the 2 that it identified were at the set tyre pressure. Strangely the tyre that had low pressure wasn't flagged. Anyone else had this? I had another set of TP warnings after getting wheelspin on a friends gravel drive. Someone mentioned before that the octavia uses ABS to judge this so might a lot of stop start cause an error?
  9. Same for me, felt essential as i got a flat 2 miles down the road after first picking up the car! (Screw in tread!) Got a new gemini for £150ish
  10. Has anyone had a professional subwoofer installation for the boot of their octy? Keen for a removable sub so i can reclaim space if required. Cheers
  11. Trying to work out what the boot cover thing is called and if there are any aftermarket alternatives. I am thinking of the thing that sits above the boot space and hides whatever is in your boot (is retractable and removable.) Basically i am wondering what alternatives exist, i would quite like something that could be acoustically insulated. Thanks
  12. Not yet no, got in touch with Avon tuning and had a quote through. Probably not going to go for it until march / April.
  13. You got a link to their main site?
  14. Has anyone used Avon tuning near Bristol for a stage 1 remap? I'm looking at stage 1 remap of a TDI vrs and keen for feedback before I take the plunge.
  15. I've just noticed this first sound on my VRS TDI, was a bit worried it might be DMF or gearbox...! Have you had any issues with this since or has it remained the same?
  16. Nice, thanks guys - I've seen a pair of OEM on eBay for £45 inc. postage so this seems like a good bet. Happy to pay more if it reduces hassle / regret!
  17. Thanks, that's some really helpful info and very comprehensive! I've already looked at getting a stage 1 remap so I think I will go with that for now. I bought the car for fuel efficiency / space / poke so was always going to be a bit of a compromise, but still much faster than any other car i've had!
  18. Are people running OEM or aftermarket mud flaps? I'm seeing 'universal' mud flaps for £5-10 or Skoda OEM mud flaps for £45-75 Quite a big price differential, and it feels like a part that could easily be 3rd party and perform well. Is that the case?
  19. Thanks, am I right in thinking there are fewer options for diesel turbo upgrades than petrol?
  20. Had the same issue, have tried a few things (each of them further improving the situation!) - Added Noico sound deadening panels to the whole of the boot and wheel well. - Bought a spare wheel and wheel kit (car didn't come with a space saver wheel so I think the wheel well was acting like a horn) - Added another layer to the boot (2x5 plywood bonded with acoustic adhesive) [I did this to make the boot firmer for transporting sand and wood etc. but has a secondary benefit of acting as another layer of sound proofing. Particularly noticed a difference since I glued the two pieces together with a 'green glue' equivalent] I've also bought some mass loaded vinyl but haven't actually added it yet, those steps above have definitely made a significant improvement. I also swapped a worn rear tyre for a brand new Michelin PS4 which has also helped (albeit only impacting one wheel)
  21. As per subject, just wondering what the stock turbo is in the VRS TDI 184? Is it the IS20 as per the petrol engine or different because it's diesel? Thanks
