Hi everyone,
Recently bought our first car, and lucky for us it is a Skoda Octavia MK3.
However, due to buying the car from another country, I was not able to test all the small details, and I have an issue with the boot compartment.
There are actually 2 issues:
1) The lateral lights in the boot do not light up when it is being opened
2) When you open the boot either with the key fob/boot button/button near the gear selector, it opens up at ~20 degrees and stops in place. I have to open it manually further. However, if I press the closing button from any position, it fully closes without any issues.
I`m in the process of buying VCDS, so that I can check for errors, however looking over the symptoms, and after searching the internet for some time, I was able to find that the lock mechanism has 2 micro-switches.
One is responsible for the warning light in the dash, and the other one is responsible for the courtesy lights.
My thinking is that this microswitch is faulty, thus, when the trunk opens lights don`t come up, and the same signal stops the further opening of the trunk. Or either I`m a lucky guy, and in additional to the faulty microswitch, maybe a strut has a faulty hall sensor....
I don`t think the problem is in the struts, as they are able to close slowly the trunk without it being dropped at the end, however, in the next days, I will disconnect the struts from the trunk lid, and simulate the trunk opening without any weight on them, so that I can check if they are opening fully or not.
Did anyone else encounter such an issue, or do you have any recommendations on what I could check else?
Cheers!
