  1. Xman, Got you, re. the projected distance of the dipped beam in relation to sensors. Thanks. On the dimness, it's the same bulb/light source for Main & Dip and they are excellent on full beam so are they dimmed on Dip? What's the reasoning behind the yellow light (particularly compared to to the Zennons) halogen that comes on on full beam and swamped by the Zennons?
  2. Xman, Thanks. No, the Main Beams are teriffic and at a good height. It's that the Dipped is dim with max projection far too near. Then there is the issue of the Halogens and what are they for?
  3. WTF do I do/can I do about the ridiculous, dangerous candle-in-in-a-jar Low/Dipped Beam projected distance and intensity? I have read as much as I could find on this and appreciate that the Zennon gubbins is the source of both Main & Dipped on my 2012 Superb. I also have a Halogen in there that comes on with Main. I changed those Halogens for Phillips 'White Vision' H3's before I knew how the Zennons functioned. I don't see the point of the Halogens as they are yellow and as dim as ditch water? Upon recommendation I also bought some Phillips H7's. More the **** me as they don't appear to fit anywhere on this vehicle. So my question is, WTF do I do/can I do about the ridiculous, dangerous candle-in-in-a-jar Low/Dipped Beam projected distance and intensity?
  4. Thank you for this. I removed the tailgate lamp units, put them back and asked how to change the bulbs when I couldn't determine how to open the units to access the bulbs. Still non the wiser. I changed all three bulbs in the rear passenger unit but have no clue as to what powers the centre bulb.
  5. Thanks again. I had thought of this but will go the bulb route first as it's less fuss while the aux. lamp will require a relay, the back end voltages being, I understand, low or less than 12v.
  6. Hi again. It's got one and it doesn't fire up until I have passed the oak strut supporting it alas. The sensitivity has to be way down because of badgers, rabbits, foxes and bloody rats. Can't win so bulbs it is. There has veen some real useful suggestions incl. the use of the rear fog.
  7. Just been to the web address. Yes, those appear to be a good alternative projecting light ahead of them as well as in to the refkector. Thank you.
  8. Dr. Lee. Great. Thank you. I'll look in to this.
  9. Good one. I'll give that a crack tonight. Better check if the rear fog works. Never used it.
  10. Thank you Roottoot but having owned standard vehicles with acceptable reverse illumination I am determined to persue the alternative bulb route not just to preserve the side of the car but from bringing the carport down on top of it!
  11. Ken, Thank you. The (my) Merc shows as the question upon signing it asked what my favourite car was sui generis. The question is addressing my 2012 Superb in fact. As to the Mercs (1982) reversing lights they are standard but gloriously sufficient to see where one is reversing.
  12. Skomaz, Thank you. I shall look in to this.
  13. Happy New Year to all of you. I found the 2011 - 14 threads on abysmal reversing illumination and considering that we have two bulbs it is shocking. Surely by now somone has found an appropriate bulb - other than a halogen - that projects powerful light outwards or utilizes the reflector on the estate?
  14. Not sure that I get, "Can you clarify," but I found the seat highly adjustable. If I've f'd up it's £6,000 down the swanny.
  15. Bentley seats are great to but I can't afford a Bentley while I wouldn't want a BMW be it a series 5 or otherwise. Bought a Superb today.
  16. Interesting stuff particularly as I am about to view Superb's having set my heart on one. I was interested to read references to old cars and flat, comfortable seats. At 68 I have not experienced back ache driving long distances, e.g. Gibraltar to Bordeaux until recently. It started with a Ford Focus. Obscene back ache after less than a hour. My own car, a 1982 123 series Mercedes 230CE has a proper old time almost horizontal seat squab and it's so comfortable causing no pain however far you drive. Recently we were given a big, expensive flash BMW to do the Gib. Bordeaux run and it was also excruciating. What happened to seat design? To get to the point, is it nt possible to raise the rear of the Superb's seat using a spacer tube and longer bolt or is the arrangement to complicated (contemporary) to remove the bolts, slacken the front ones and raise the back end? Alternatively, surely there is an alternative seat subject to the all singing all dancing electrical controls? At 68 I can still change the interior mirror to darker by reaching forward (when I want to), operate the windscreen wipers (when I want them), apply the brakes (I'm thinking of all today's Mercs that I have driven), turn on the lights ................. you get my drift.
