Satnav fault Octavia iV: Skoda claims its not a known issue so please comment
My 2020 Octavia came with the Sat Nav giving distances in Kilometres but speaking in English. It took several months for Skoda to sort it and the local dealer to do the reprograming. Even now you can't type in a post code to get a destination. You have to write the place name in. Really rather poor by Skoda and VAG because these faults apply to other VAG cars as well.

Door handle looking system
In the last few days I can't lock my car by touching (any of) the door handles. However it unlocks in the usual way when you put your hand inside the handle. Any ideas?

The other ting I ntoiced is the sat nav date base is years out of date. It locates fuel stations that have been closed for ten years, place of interest that are not longer there, even a fairly new service areas on the M1 in Yorkshire is not there.

It took nine months to get mine sorted! It was in and out of the dealer and I was writing long letters to Skoda UK. Eventually it went in for a whole day and the system was reset to read in miles. The whole VAG group have has similar problems and many others relating to software. The director in change of VAG software has been sacked. The next round of models will have quite different controls, returning to knobs for many things like the air con. Your are not allowed to sue a phone when driving but you do have to take your eyes off the road to poke through several screen to do things.

Sat Nav works in KM rather than Miles
You perhaps don't know how Tulip road books work. It's the distance as driven so it doesn't get the right results using a mapping programme.

Time and Distance Travelled Displays on the dashboard
So why sis every car I owned up to and including by 2016 Octavia have a trip that easily seroed and was very accurate?

Time and Distance Travelled Displays on the dashboard
Jorge. I assume you have no experience of running rallies? I am an National licenced Motor Sport UK Clerk of the Course and have run many, many rallies and classic tours with "tulip" style road books. For tours we use the trips meters and modern trips are very accurate and for rallies we use Brantz meters which are retrofits. Anyway your comments are not relevant to the issue with my, and the other 400 cars.

That is a rather unhelpful reply. There are plenty of people who have to fill in expenses forms based on miles between meetings. What do you mean by "so called accurate distances"?

Time and Distance Travelled Displays on the dashboard
Anyone who needs know how far they have gone on a journey needs a normal trip. Knowing how many hours the car has been running and distance in a day is of no use. Amongst other things I organise rallies for historic cars and need to be able to give accurate distances between junctions. The infotel on the Skoda is so complicated and has so many features i don't need. Just a simple tak like changing the fan speed takes three screens and you can't do it on the move.

Sat Nav works in KM rather than Miles
I bought a 2020 Octavia estate when it was three months old. It was an ex Skoda UK car and I trade in my excellent 2016 version of the car. There are many features on the new car I dislike or think are dangerous. Lake assist, pedestrian proximity, and the adaptive cruise control that have caused me heart stopping moments. There are so many "gizmos" on the car that my wife refuses to drive it. I don't like it either compared to the previous one. The rear wiper operates with an intermittent wipe when ever the front wipers are on any setting. As the state has a rear spoiler on the back of the roof the rear screen rarely gets wet from rain but only from spray on the motorway. Thus the rear wipe scrapes noisily and has worn the blade out. However the biggest issue is that the Sat Nav work in KM and nothing the dealer of Skoda can do seems to be able to sort it. I gather there are some 400 cars with the same issue. It "speaks" in English but quotes km and metres for the distances. How someone approved UK spec cars with that I do not know. Skoda have now said there si noting they can do, so I am looking at legal action.

Time and Distance Travelled Displays on the dashboard
Cars, 40 years ago had easily resettable trip meters that measured in1/10 of a mile. There are several reasons I need this. Anyone who claims miiage will do as well. Another design failure.

Octavia Mk4 aftermarket towbar
I had a 2016 Octavia TD and towed by race car all over the UK. it seems to be that the electronic and safety gizmos are more complex on the 2020 models.

Octavia Mk4 aftermarket towbar
Are there any further updates on this topic?

Tow bar
Which main dealer was that please? my main dealer said their rate per hour was £120!
-
Tow bar
Is that from the main dealer or a tow bar fitter? My Main dealer wanted about £1200
-
Tow bar
I did look but could not see one.

Tow bar
It seems complicated and costly to get a tow bar fitted. The electric shave to disable the rear sensors and the towbar has to be detachable. Has anyone had one fitted successfully.?

My dealer has offered me what I paid for it 5 months ago. I asked if they would then sell the car on knowing it had a fault, which would be a serious offence. The problem is that if I did get the money what could I get instead, there are so few cars available a tthe moment.

My dealer DP came back to be and said they will give me what I paid for the car three months ago. In fact with the shortage of second hand cars it may well be worth more at the moment. However do they buy it bakc and put on the sales lot and sell it to another poor buyer who will discover the same issue? I would have thought that selling a car with a known fault is illegal - as both Skoda and the dealers know of the issue. I did ask the question to the DP as to whether the cars currently on sale, new and nearly new, had the same problem, but she has not replied. One thing that is a puzzle is that the "voice" instructions are in clear English but "she" still gives the distances in metric. I can't see the logic of that.

Thanks, I will try that

The other issue I have, which may just be bad design is the lack of a visible mileage reading for total and trip. Many folk will need to log their mileage for business etc. There is a screen you can find eventually that shows total mileage and miles so far today but I can't see how to zero it.

My was a Skoda UK car that was re reg. it had done 2000 miles so why did the driver not notice the issue? Also the dealer should have picked up on it at the pdi. The dealer had it for two days and it came back worse, in that the satnav lost the ability to accept post codes. It's also lost the total mileage and trip read out. Are the new and nearly new cars in showrooms at the moment suffering the same issue? Surely they can't sell cars with a know fault.

Satnav fault Octavia iV: Skoda claims its not a known issue so please comment
I got mine in the summer and went on holiday to discover the sat nav works in metric - distances in Km and metres Took it in the the sealer for two days and it was reurtned no better and now it does not accept post codes and the dash does not show and distances or trip at all. The dealer is unhelpful.
