  1. This has become an ongoing saga because the replacement item had (It's been returned) a different screw hole alignment. Looking at the comments above maybe I should by a replacement and replace the guts.
  2. Thanks, kokosal. Thats very helpful.
  3. Thank you, Morph. Much appreciated.
  4. Many thanks, Alisdair. That if very helpful. Nigel
  5. Thanks, Alasdair. Noted. Have ordered a replacement motor. Nigel
  6. Many thanks, Alasdair for your input. I will check that. Preumably the tail-gate cover just unclips. Nigel
  7. Question: Is this a known issue please and what is the likely cause? I.e. Is it probably the motor which needs replacing? Thanks in advance for any help.
  8. Thanks, Alasdair. The amperage when the car is shut down and the interior lights are selected 'off' is 0.6A. Checking both fuse boxes the only item causing a drop was 12 the Central Locking System in the dash console fuse box, but that would still leave a drain of 0.3A. Initial check in the engine fuse box showed 0.2A on F24 the Control Unit for the CAN databus and 0.1A on F16 the Windscreen Wiper and Signal Control Arm. However, when returning to check those two there was no reading on either.. However, in principle, those three items would make up the 0.6A overall drain. All very curious
  9. There is still a drain of 0.8A when shut down. Radio fuse is out. Any other obvious culprits please?
  10. Thanks again for your comments. So far it appear that the radio console was the culprit.
  11. Thank you, Alisdair. Battery and alternator have been checked and are fine. Now have a period when I don't need to use the car so can leave the battery connections (with the radio fuze removed) and see if there is a drain on the battery.
  12. Thank you. Have removed the fuze so we'll see.
  13. Thank you, gav-is-con. No, but it is blinking. Is that significant?
  14. This is an evolved fault which appears to be worsening. The battery is fine. Have left that disconnected overnight and it has held its charge. This means something is draining it when everything in the car is off. Is this a known issue or, is there a likely part which could be at fault please? Thanks in advance for any help.
  15. The system in my Mk2 Octavia is blinking on and off and is not showing words in English. How can it be reset please?
  16. The engine is taking a long time to warm up (very much longer than it used to be ) and when it does warm up whilst initially the temperature needle seems to sit at normal operating temperature it will quite readily move up the scale towards the red line and one has to be very careful in deed in the speed/engine management. My initial interpretation is that the thermostat may need replacing but is this where the issue is pointing please? I know that water pumps on these engines. Is this likely to be part of the issue. Thanks in advance for any helpful comments or suggestions.
  17. You're welcome. Hope you are not suffering too much with the heat.
  18. Thank you very much for your reply. After I made the posting I looked on YT (again) and saw how a wing mirror can be detached. Luckily I have the trim tools used for installing the cabling for the dashcam and used these to ease off the mirror together with its mounting plate. I then realised what the problem was. Previously the mirror had almost come off and could have been lost. Luckily I saved it before that happened. The garage said you won't re-stick it. You will need a new mirror. However, Duck tape on the back of the mirror followed by mastic and the mirror was successfully replaced. What I did not realise was that the bottom of the mirror was touching the cowling and restricting the movement. So I managed separate the mirror from the mounting plate (now out of the housing) and re-set the mirror properly on the plate. It's now working fine. Thanks again for your response. I have gone though this is some detail in case the experience turns out to be of value to anyone else.
  19. The sync of the outside mirrors needs resetting. The movement of the n/s mirror is fine but the o/s one now seems to have more limited movement and is not working synchronously with the nearside one. i.e on dropping and returning the mirrors for reversing. My initial assumption is that the sync needs resetting but there seems to be nothing on YT for this. Any helpful suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
  20. Don't know for certain but, not so far as to trigger the low water sensor.
  21. Thanks for your quick and helpful reply, pikpilot To point (1), Yes. In answer to your second point I think the level probably does fall.
  22. Please can anyone explain why at a stead 2000 RPM the temperature stays rock solid with the needle in the middle of the guage but at around a steady 2300 the needle quickly moves towards the red. Is it, perhaps, that the second fan is not kicking in? Thanks in advance for any helpful comments.
  23. Thanks, Breezy_Pete and 'varooom', for your quick and helpful replies. It's a 2.0ltr diesel so presumably the 74Ah would be better but, maybe having a 71Ah might not make too much difference.
  24. My Octavia Estate is fitted with a 12v 74Ah battery but looking for a replacement various established companies are recommending anything from a 44Ah to a 71Ah. Neither the owner's manual nor the technical data booklet appear to show the recommended battery. So, what should it be please? Thanks in advance for helpful replies.
