  1. There's the rub. Anything is possible if you feel like stripping the car. I am by no means inept at electrics (I've fitted an Audi towbar to a modern vehicle in the past and I'm currently restoring a classic with sensible, analogue wiring), but there must be an easier way..... Maybe tap into the rear light feed??
  2. This isn't a easy as you might think. In older VAG cars one could move the fuse position to change between switched and permanent. There isn't that facility in the Superb mk3 that I'm aware of, hence my question
  3. Because I already have a Nextbase 612gw front (4K top of the range at the time) and a spare 422gw for the rear. I have no need to buy another set and run the cable. If I wanted to do that, I'd just run a cable to the new one anyway.....
  4. As a minor aside, I have a front dashcam fitted with a piggyback fuse into my fuse box, but I'd like to find a switched live at the rear of the car for a rear camera. Mine's a Superb Saloon. Has anyone fitted a rear camera and found a reasonable rear end 12v switched feed, please? Ta.
  5. Oh, please don't think I took it as such, I didn't 🙂 No need for an apology at all!
  6. I did mention this in my original post, it's irritating but not impossible to deal with. It could just be better.
  7. Thanks for the info. I'm thinking I might invest in a VCDS unit as there are things I do want to do.
  8. Hi all, relatively new to Superb mk3 ownership, and I've used the search function but couldn't turn anything about this up, so please excuse me if it's a repeat! I have a 1.4Tsi ACT DSG Sportline car. It has an eco mode in the drive mode selection, which is great as I need to be as economical as possible in driving. One marginally annoying thing that happens in this mode is that it kind of disengages when I leave the car, return and start it. When I get in and start the car and drive, the gear shows in the display as 'D1', 'D2' etc. However, it doesn't do the normal disengagement of the clutch to 'freewheel' down hills. When I get in, start the engine and then go to drive mode and select 'Eco', it shows 'E1', 'E2' in the gear display, and when going down hills with no throttle applied, goes to 'E' and 'freewheels' (i.e. goes to idle engine speed). Did anyone have any clue as to why it doesn't retain this setting at ignition off/on and why I have to select it every time? Its not particularly difficult, just a tedious thing that ought to not have to be done. I know there are greater things to worry about and occupy my time, so please excuse my question and humour a confused guy. Thanks!
  9. Hi all, long (very long) time lurker here - I've owned many a Skoda in my time on these boards and I now have my third generation Superb (having owned a Mk1 Edition 100 and a Mk2 L&K combi). It's a very nice 1.4TSi Sportline. I drive for a living and had a very bad experience with an Audi A6 Ultra engine, so I'm avoiding diesels at the moment. Anyway, long story short - is there an analogue blind spot mirror option (albeit with heating/dimming) for the Mk3's door mirror, please? My son has a 2009 VW Polo and even that has a convex section at the end for the blind spot. I currently have one of those hideous add on units that are awful looking, though they do the job. I physically check my blind spot with a shoulder look (a throwback of being on a motorcycle all my life), but that's just before I manoeuvre. I could do with an option just to monitor in normal driving. Has anyone found one that doesn't involve retrofitting the digital blind spot warning components? Ta.
  10. Well I've been having major headache with the Skoda files. Tried numerous storage media with different file architecture. Continually have an 'SD card cannot be read' or 'No updates found' error. The VW download then went onto an exFAT 64GB SD card, loaded it onto the slot and the update was recognised. Thanks @MartiniB for your diligent work on finding these packages!
  11. Back in the fold having been here originally since 2007(!). I've been through a few Skodas in my time, Favorit, Felicia, Furby VRs, Superb Mk1 Edition 100, Superb Mk2 L&K..... The wife now has an Enyaq and I am the new owner of a 2018 Superb Mk3 1.4TSi Sportline DSG. Loving it so far, but it needs a few tweaks....
  12. Well, the whole petrol vs diesel question has been rendered moot. I've been offered a ludicrous deal on a brand new car (not a Skoda) that it would be foolish to pass up. Therefore this decision is unlikely to be taken now.... Thanks for all the input though :-)
  13. As per above, I currently drive a Volvo S90 2.0 diesel with Polestar performance map and it returns just shy of 40mpg. I drive it in an average way, not economically or over the top quickly, like you - just how I wish to drive. I don't want to be feathering the throttle and coasting everywhere to save money....
  14. Thanks again all, I'll be doing some motorway miles but mostly extra-urban (often travelling from Leighton Buzzard to Cambridge and back and same to Oxford, with smatterings of other similar journeys - no real sitting in traffic).
  15. Thanks all, really good info. I feel a mapped TDI may suit me best. My company 'give' me 11p per mile for running a diesel. I'm also getting a car allowance but don't want to haemorrhage money on petrol (let's be honest, real mpg reports a lot less than 39mpg for the petrol engine, I know it depends on a lot of things and mentions above give 26-43mpg, but I'll drive it like I stole it), so it may well make sense to oil burn it. Alternatively I may end up going for an older Audi A7 3.0tdi...... :-)
  16. Hi all, posted in about to buy but had no responses, any thoughts please? Hi all, long time, no post..... I find myself being booted out of my work company car scheme and I need a new vehicle (2nd hand) in November. I'm coming out of a Volvo S90 2.0tdi auto with Polestar tuning (slight increase in bhp and torque and gearbox flexibility). I've had a Mk1 and Mk2 Superb and find myself drawn back to the model when it's my own money being spent. The crux of my question is, should I go for the petrol or diesel 4x4? I'll be paying for my own fuel so I'm kind of drawn to the TDI SCR engine, however, there are occasions that the petrol can offer decent fuel economy (I've read with interest the post regarding ownership of a 272 in the Superb pages). If it were your money, would you go petrol or diesel? I'm going to be doing around 18k miles a year. Currently my big Swedish Barge returns 39.9mpg - I like that figure.... Any advice welcomed :-) Cheers Stunts

  18. That's a shame. I was quite looking forward to ordering one next year. Guess it'll have to be the standard one then :-) The Combi is the wagon/estate in the UK.
  19. Is the Vrs 4x4 still available in the UK, only it doesn't seem to be in the configurator any more.....
  20. Ah, that might explain it then, I must have an earlier Columbus in my L&K. It was only in for a service recently so I'll be a bit miffed if they've not updated the maps.... :-(
  21. I've had my Superb MkII since July 2014 and each time I enter my VIN on the portal website it says there isn't an upgrade available. I have a feeling it waits until your two years is up and then hits you with an "upgrade for only £350!" message :/
  22. Well, I took the plunge and upgraded all the interior lights to Bright white led's (my personal preference). 2 x visor mirrors, 4 x footwell, 4 x door bottoms, 4 x courtesy lights in the roof and 2 x tailgate lights. All were 501 wedges apart from the rear courtesy lights and the visor mirror lights which were festoon types. I also did the number plate lights which were also 501's. Pics to follow Just thought I'd give numbers and types if anyone else wanted to go the same route.
  23. Well I eventually received my Superb Estate - it's a 140 manual (company car tax!) L&K in Black Metallic and the only option part fitted is the space saver spare (I had a bad experience with the puncture kit in an Octy!) So far I've done 5k miles in it (since the end of July) and I'm really chuffed. My loyalty to the brand is not misplaced! Favourite gizmo on the car...... Hmmmm, toss up between the roof and the ventilated seats! When I had the car delivered I asked the delivery truck driver about the torch in the boot. He knew nothing of it, so I investigated and it's actually the boot light on the left which is removable and is a bright white LED torch. I don't know why they couldn't have fitted the interior out with bright white LED's all the way through - makes for a classier feel IMHO. I did it in my Superb Mk1 and it made a massive difference...... Anyhow, enjoying ownership at the moment!
