  1. It is a 68 plate fabia, I guess there isn't much difference between the trim levels?
  2. Yes I tried a data cable, and another phone. On the working assumption I have damaged one of the data conductors in the car's USB socket, are they hard to swap out?
  3. I accidentally put the usb c connector (which normally goes into my phone) into the USB A (traditional USB socket) of my Fabia. It was dark and the cable ends look similar! I suspect I scratched a conductor in the socket as it now only charges my phone but android auto isn't recognising my phone. I haven't found any instructions or videos online showing how to replace the USB socket module. Is it easy? The part is £50 so a bit of a gamble that the cause is actually the socket. Any help much appreciated!
  4. I just called my local Skoda dealer as my Mark III is now approaching 5 years old. I was told by their service department that a recent bulletin from Skoda told them the cam belt will last 140,000 miles so doesn't need to be done until then. He then told me the cost is £700 so that is good news! The quality of the info does depend on who answers the phone - I have asked before about the service schedule specific to my car (a benefit of going to a main dealer I would have thought) and I was told to look in the Skoda app. I'm not sure the app works at that level of detail with a Fabia Mk3 - perhaps I am wrong? It seems to sync with Wifi buy my car doesn't have Wifi?
  5. Thanks for that @toot. Is that a special service website? It's a bit frustrating that it isn't in the Skoda app as far as I can see. TV
  6. I have always taken my Fabia to the main dealer for its annual service. The original owner didn't get the car serviced until it was 18 month old so I now have a somewhat strange service interval 6 months out from the MOT date. The receipts from the main dealer don't specify the oil, it has been "Castol Magnetec synthetic oil" the last couple of times. I have been told it is on the variable service schedule, but despite doing less than 4000 miles in the last year, the service reminder has come on exactly 12 months from the last service, so I'm not sure whether the "it's set to varible schedule" that the dealer told me means anything. It is quite a bit cheaper to use an independent garage and they are proposing to use 0w20 oil. From my googling I think 5w30 LL would be correct for a variable service schedule, or 5w40 FS for fixed service intervals. Is this right? From from V5C I seem to have the DKLD engine as that is what the engine number starts with. Castol's website says Castol Edge 0W-20 LL IV or 5w-30 LL The electronic Owners manual unhelpfully says on page 210: "Engine oil Specification: To find out which type of engine oil you can use for your vehicle, contact a specialist garage." So I'm turning to the experts here for some expert advice!
  7. Yesterday shortly after a cold start the amber engine icon light came on. Today it is still on and I plugged in an Autolink OBD11 reader which tells me I have a the code as in the subject. Anyone had this and what the likely cause / cost of rectifying could be? The mileage is only about 26,000 and was serviced a couple of months ago. Thanks!
