  1. Finally pulled my finger out and finished (well started and finished really) the restoration on my Estelle. Its been a long time coming. Took it to a local car show on Sunday and got lots of really positive feedback - many stories from people who had one, or whos parents had one (with the associated micky taking etc). I have a few more jobs to do. Highest on the list at the moment is to sort the interior. The front seats are pretty bad (fitted some cheap seat covers) and the rear seats were completely gone (so not currently fitted). I had a few ideas, but the rear seat issue was a problem - couldn't buy aftermarket rear seats. I have managed to find a Mk1 Fabia VRS interior which should be turning up in a week or so which I am going to try and modify to fit. If I can make it work it should be pretty cool with the VRS logos on them (in cream and black).
  2. Ah ok. That's not great as there were a few bits I was after on their website anyway. As for the uniball, yes definitely interested. Message me about price or email me on [email protected]. If price and condition are right then I will buy them from you for sure.
  3. Thanks for the info. I have found a set on the Kolar motorsport website. I will contact them and find out about postage to the UK. Thanks again. Lewis
  4. I think my doughnut bushes need renewing on my Estelle. The inner metal inserts are starting to part with the rubber. Whilst I am sure that new ones are available (Skoparts most likely) would it be possible to re-cast the rubber using a two part polyurethane kit? 70 shore hardness kits are available off ebay for a tenner. Do you think it would be possible to cut out the old rubber, make a suitable damn and then recast with new poly? I have a few sets of old trailing arms that I could take the bushes off and recondition. I kind of like the idea as I have a set of uprated front wishbone bushes and uprating the rear seams like a suitable complimentary modification. Thanks Lewis
  5. Sorry I should have said it is the 1.6 diesel.
  6. Hi all I have a 1.6 Superb SE (not the greenline) and I am getting some wierd MPG variations recently. It has covered about 14,000 miles in the last 8 months and generally the economy has been good. Just under 40 mpg on my 10 mile commute to the office (when averaged over a week) and up to 55mpg ish on a motorway run when driven normally. However over the last week or so, I have noticed that the MPG is dropping a fair bit and only got 27 mpg out of it on the comute the other day. On motorway runs it is getting harder to keep it over 50 mpg. Now I know a lot has to do with driving style, and I generally put my foot down when required, but I equally do keep an eye on MPG and try and save where I can. Any thoughts about what to look for? I am loathed to take it to a dealer just yet as I doubt anything is acutally wrong and I am sure I would get fobbed off. Any suggestions would be welcome (e.g. bad fuel, cooler temps, needs a service etc) Thanks
  7. Find a cancelled order car. I had ordered a car and was told 12 weeks, so putting my delivery into March. My current car died and I asked the dealer what they could do. They managed to find an almost identical car (better colour) in the exit port in Germany, and had it with me within 2 weeks. It was delivered today. Happy days!

  9. I totally agree with everything Hawkracing has said and disgree with almost everything Cech bra size has said (sorry!). I have driven a range of different cars over the years from an MGB GT with a heavily tuned Oseli engine to my current new Honda civic sport and all of these cars have exerienced brake fade when pushing on. The MG could literally cook its brakes in minutes of spirited driving. If you carried on pushing it you would lose a lot of brake force. The civic isn't as bad but I have pulled up after a B road blast and had smoking litterally billowing out of the front wheel arches. Drilled and/or grooved brakes help dissipate more heat, and help clean the pads. Increasing the overall size of the disks and pads (calipers) also can have a huge affect on the braking. I owned a 1.2 renault clio dynamic (it was fairly). It had a 'sport' pack that consisted of a few suspention tweeks, but one of the big differences was it had the front disks off a laguna (cost twice as bloody much as the standard 1.2 clio disks). The brakes on that car were unbelievable compared to a standard clio. As for handling, I have only driven my estelle a handful of times over the past 3 years (it is a long term project car) but I found the handling fine. Steering was good, brakes ok, general poise and composure was also good. I have lowered it quite a lot which has made it a bit fidgity at the front, but I think the tracking needs looking at. Almost any car can have it's handling transformed with the correct combo of wheels, tyres, springs, shocks and geometry tweeks.
  10. if you went for a vw box, there are loads of kits for mating different car engines. My favorite option would be a subaru boxer turbo lump, for which there are all sorts of kits for fitting to vw boxes!
  11. i was thinking about this for my estelle. The problem is, to run it chain drive like a 'normal' setup requires cutting the shell up, and if you put it in the back, you will be going backwards fast!!! I thought about mateing the drive off the bike box to the input shaft on the skoda box and leaving one of them in like 4th gear. As was mentioned on Retro Rides (where i asked the question) it will work but you have to live with revving it's nuts off to go anywhere (that personally appeals to me however!!)
  12. Ok thanks all! Tail - that sounds like the sticker. The ends probably need to be trimmed once on the car, but i am supprised that it is an external sticker!
  13. Thanks for the information all! I might see about getting a few made, but might try masking the sticker off for the time being! I too suspected that it is unlikey that i would get one! Any gen on a suprising skoda sticker?
  14. Hi all, I know this should go in the wanted section, but I thought it would go un-noticed! Any leads on how to obtain the skoda sticker that runs across the back of the car under the lights??? I am about to respray my estelle, but like the sticker! The other option is to mask over the sticker and leave it there! The other one is those supprising skoda sun stips? Thanks Lewis
