  1. Hi Folks, So I'm just trying to interpret my VIN and am obviously missing something but I cant figure out what so I was hoping someone could help me? The issue I have is that I own a 2011 Fabia Scout 1.6 TDI which was registered in September 2011, however from my interpretation of the VIN the car appears to have been manufactured in 2012?! Any help much appreciated. Thanks in advance. D _________________ The VIN is as follows: TMB K L 2 5J 8 C 3 041153 Working from the Service Manual: : TMB - other factories K - FABIA COMBI II, right-hand drive L - 1.6 l TDI/77kW/diesel engine 2 - 2 Front + 2 side airbags 5J - FABIA II - (all countries except AGCC states as of MY 2013) 8 - Internal code C - 2012?! 3 - Manufacturing Plant: Mladá Boleslav 041153 - Chassis number
  2. Morning! Just a quick hello! I bought the Fabia just before I really understood what was going on in America with the VW emissions scandal! I've had a bit of a love hate relationship with it, however want to try and see if I can nurse it to 300K miles. All my previous cars have made it to 200-220k, and were still going when I moved them on, and have accepted that will mean spending a bit of cash to make sure it gets there. However when I look around me and see a lot of faux comments about the environment and then look at friends who are paying £400/month for the privilege of driving a newer car, I've figured my best option in terms of environment and money is to stick with this one for as long as I can accepting I will need the odd major repair/replacement. And who knows I might even make a mod! So to try and hit this 300K I've decided I want to try and be more hands on. I'm starting at the lowest point possible! I am no mechanic or engineer so changing the battery last week made me feel like an F1 mechanic! Changed a headlight bulb (who knew it was so tricky for folks with big hands?); changed the air filter; and am about to change the fuel filter before finishing with the finale...the oil and oil filter! I have in the past had a look on this forum, and the knowledge and expertise is brilliant so thought if I'm going to achieve the 300K aim, then being part of this site could be a huge help, so I am likely to ask a lot of stupid questions (although I promise to try and search for them first!). The biggest issue I've had with the car has been its EGR valve. I'm on 163K, and I am on my third EGR valve so think I need to seriously consider having it removed as its really expensive. I've also bought a Ross-Tech HEX V2 scanner which I am currently trying to learn. Anyway that's my hello! Cheers D
  3. Hi Gulf1 I am having the same issue in my Fabia Mk 2 Scout (2011). I had to change my tyre and the well was full of water. I took everything out, dried it completely then looked for obvious water entry marks but couldn't find any. I left the car for a few days (there has been no rain, I haven't washed it) and i checked it again today and sure enough there is some more ponding water?! I can't explain it. Could it be something to do with moisture condensation? I appreciate the obvious is seals etc, but if it hasn't rained and the car hasn't been washed, seals don't appear to be the issue? Anyone got any ideas? Thanks D
