Morning!
Just a quick hello!
I bought the Fabia just before I really understood what was going on in America with the VW emissions scandal!
I've had a bit of a love hate relationship with it, however want to try and see if I can nurse it to 300K miles. All my previous cars have made it to 200-220k, and were still going when I moved them on, and have accepted that will mean spending a bit of cash to make sure it gets there. However when I look around me and see a lot of faux comments about the environment and then look at friends who are paying £400/month for the privilege of driving a newer car, I've figured my best option in terms of environment and money is to stick with this one for as long as I can accepting I will need the odd major repair/replacement. And who knows I might even make a mod!
So to try and hit this 300K I've decided I want to try and be more hands on. I'm starting at the lowest point possible! I am no mechanic or engineer so changing the battery last week made me feel like an F1 mechanic! Changed a headlight bulb (who knew it was so tricky for folks with big hands?); changed the air filter; and am about to change the fuel filter before finishing with the finale...the oil and oil filter!
I have in the past had a look on this forum, and the knowledge and expertise is brilliant so thought if I'm going to achieve the 300K aim, then being part of this site could be a huge help, so I am likely to ask a lot of stupid questions (although I promise to try and search for them first!).
The biggest issue I've had with the car has been its EGR valve. I'm on 163K, and I am on my third EGR valve so think I need to seriously consider having it removed as its really expensive.
I've also bought a Ross-Tech HEX V2 scanner which I am currently trying to learn.
Anyway that's my hello!
Cheers
D
